No, it's not open to anyone in the internet. Depending how it's set up, you may need an account or you may not. But it's basically like AOL or MSN but WAY expanded without awesome features. Instead of posts you just hit enter and your message sends through.

I don't think a shoutbox would work for TDN. We basically have a shoutbox here, just with less... no, actually about the same amount of overlapping conversations and messages.

Bah, I don't like those. Especially when you can't shut them off. Posts are fine. Thats what forums are for. If I wanted a constant stream I would go chat on aim or something.

Not gonna happen, JB. No need for it. And it's already been tried and apparently didn't work out then. I doubt it would work any better now that the forums are so much bigger.

The closest thing to a shoutbox that I like is a xat chat.

It's a chat box. Anyone can make one and it can be embedded into some pages. You have owner/s who have super control and banning over everyone. Then you have the moderators, who have control over members/guest. In addition to chatting with your screenname/avatar without signing up, you can also sign into msn in another tab in the chatbox.
