Tyler. Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 I save the world by doing... stuff but really, I promote peace and green stuff Quote
The Score in Blue Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 I would love to read an essay on saving the world. Although, it would sound a bit like bragging if you ask me. :P Quote
jumpingbeans Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 I'm afraid I believe astrology to be a load of bullcrap. Astronomy, on the other hand...:P That's what I meant to. Astronomy, Astrology, they're so close to the same word. Quote
antiaircraft Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 I save the world by helping people out with Neopets. Maybe someday I'll help out some scientist who will then be so happy that he'll leap straight into his work and find a cure for cancer or something. :D Spritzie, I know what you mean! The number of years is the only thing holding me back from medicine. Livvy, that is what I love! Genetics is so structured. I want to work on the Human Genome Project where scientists are searching to see what each gene does (hair color, addictions, etc). Unfortunately it's nowhere near that simple though. :( As I understand it, the vast majority of genetic traits are defined by a complex combination of various overlapping genes (I picked this up while studying eye colour), meaning that it takes a lot of work to figure out which genes map to which characteristics. But hey, that's what makes it interesting, right? :) My parents really wanted me to go into medicine (they still do I think), but it just wasn't that interesting to me - I'm a geek and a programmer through and through. That and I suck at memorising, and handling delicate stuff. :P Quote
livvy Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 *spazzes* Look at this prompt!2. "The most important lesson you can learn while you are here [at Furman] is that for your life to have authentic meaning, fulfillment and consequence, you must learn the importance of connection to forces larger and greater than yourself: to larger causes and to the greater community." Rod Smolla, President, Furman University With this in mind, briefly describe a current issue or recent event in your state or community and how it will affect its citizens in the future? More importantly, how have you, as a leader, made a difference in regards to this issue? Maximum Allowed: 500 words. What the heck am I supposed to say about that? I'm a HIGH SCHOOL student, for goodness sake! I don't have time to go out and save the world! I'm busy trying to keep my own little world from imploding! What if it isn't an "I saved the world" essay but an "I influence my community in a positive way" essay? Or a "what I do makes a difference" essay? Hm... When I have access to it, I'll send you my response for that one too. I'd appreciate your thoughts on it. (Even though it's already been sent and too late to change.) EDIT: Or I'll just post it here, since so many people want to see how I saved the world. *strikes important pose* And haha, Theo, I love your save-the-world strategy. =P Quote
antiaircraft Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Livvy... shouldn't you be in school? Or am I missing something? xD Quote
livvy Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 I am in school. My school's web-page-blocky-thing just sucks, and thus I can access TDN (sometimes.) And since I have study hall the first three periods of the day, well, I really have nothing better to do. Except maybe I should be doing calculus. But nah. EDIT: So Theo, is it almost 10 over there, or almost 11? Daylight Savings Time has screwed up my sense of time. Quote
antiaircraft Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Actually, it's just past 23:00 now. I should be in bed, but I'm busy tweaking random stuff studying for a test. Oh, and I need to get the header issue with AdBlock for Chrome resolved before I can sleep too. Quote
livvy Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Gosh, now I'll have to remember that you're an hour ahead of me... which is where you REALLY are, since this is the off-time of DST... :S Daylight Savings Time confuses me. *pokes you* Study, Theo! TDN is not an excuse to fail. >=O Quote
Spritzie Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Or I'll just post it here, since so many people want to see how I saved the world. *strikes important pose* See! I knew you'd saved the world. You were just trying to be modest. Quote
antiaircraft Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 I'm failing whether I study or not Livvy - that's inevitable for this subject (Electrical Actuators and Sensors) as I'm useless at anything that has to do with AC circuits. Unless you'd care to help me wrap my head around this? :P Fortunately for me though, I have a convenient little world clock built into my desktop. :D Quote
livvy Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 See! I knew you'd saved the world. You were just trying to be modest. Haha, no, as I said in my essay, all I do is keep little parts of my world from falling apart. I haven't saved the whole thing. (Yet.) @Theo: Heh, 'fraid I can't help you there. 0_0 Quote
antiaircraft Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Thing is, if everyone in the world works to save their own little part(s) of it... well, we've certainly got enough people to cover the whole thing, haven't we? :D Quote
Spritzie Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Haha, no, as I said in my essay, all I do is keep little parts of my world from falling apart. I haven't saved the whole thing. (Yet.) Hey, I'm fairly sure keeping parts of your world from falling apart counts as well. And Theo, that's really scary looking. Quote
livvy Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Thing is, if everyone in the world works to save their own little part(s) of it... well, we've certainly got enough people to cover the whole thing, haven't we? :D I like that theory. ^_^ It's kinda like we're all saving the world. Quote
antiaircraft Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Indeed it is Spritzie, indeed it is... basically it's meant to be an equivalent circuit representation of a transformer, with inductors and resistors in place to simulate the transformer's core losses. I need to, ah, memorise some equations to figure out the values for those resistances and inductances. x_x Edit: Likeable theories are fun to come up with. :D Quote
Spritzie Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 I like that theory. ^_^ It's kinda like we're all saving the world. A little bit at all time. (Did that sound cliche to anyone else?) Indeed it is Spritzie, indeed it is... basically it's meant to be an equivalent circuit representation of a transformer, with inductors and resistors in place to simulate the transformer's core losses. I need to, ah, memorise some equations to figure out the values for those resistances and inductances. x_x See? That's why I did better in English/Language. I at least knew what was going at all times. (Or at most times.) Quote
Wembly Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 It's a very nicely drawn circuit. Mine always used to come out blobby but then again, I think I just didn't care enough to go a little slower and fix them. Also, I think that its universal that people fail and or hate circuit diagrams and such. Quote
livvy Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 A little bit at all time. (Did that sound cliche to anyone else?) Very. :P But accurate none-the-less. I should've talked to you guys before writing the essay. I wouldn't have felt so useless. Quote
Spritzie Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Very. :P But accurate none-the-less. I should've talked to you guys before writing the essay. I wouldn't have felt so useless. I'm sure it turned out great though! I'd love to see it at some point. Quote
antiaircraft Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Seconded! It's a very nicely drawn circuit. Mine always used to come out blobby but then again, I think I just didn't care enough to go a little slower and fix them. Also, I think that its universal that people fail and or hate circuit diagrams and such. Heh, I know there's at least one guy in my class who pretty much knows everything already. But that diagram's actually from the official notes. xD Quote
livvy Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 I'll C&P it to here as soon as I get home. I don't have it saved on anything that would let me access it here. But don't expect excellent work. I wrote it at midnight, and was kind of frustrated with it at the time. Quote
antiaircraft Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Well... most of the good writers I know are always frustrated with their work. xD Quote
Spritzie Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 I look forward to reading it. I'm sure it's better than you think it is. You're just nervous about the application. Quote
livvy Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Well I was just frustrated 'cuz it was due in a day and I didn't have the kind of answer they were looking for. Not so much the "my writing is never amazing enough!" kind of frustration. :P EDIT: I'm sure you're right, Spritz. I'm definitely nervous. Quote
