Naamah D. Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 I've thought about not talking to anybody about my pets except for my mom and sometimes this forum(I'm going to start posting less because of my real life situations I'm having to deal with). My mom seems to be the only person who understands and everybody else gives me a hard time. Would that make sense? Note: If this post wasn't specific enough I'm trying to keep my personal life out of this :sad01_anim: Quote
Scarlet Fever Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 If it's something that will make you more comfortable and get along easier, I say go for it. Quote
hrtbrk Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 Sure - it makes sense! Only talk about things that mean a lot to you to people who understand how much it means to you. I think a lot of members here don't bring up Neopets to our friends/family because they don't understand and would give us a hard time, too. Quote
Masaryk Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 It absolutely makes sense! It's depressing when you really enjoy something, and all the people you tell about it don't seem to care. It's better to talk about it to people who understand and care. Quote
Syrin of Neopia Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 Makes perfect sense to me. I don't talk to my friends about Neopets & I barely talk to my husband about it. They don't play it, so they don't understand it. That's why I talk here on the forums :D Quote
Angeló Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 yes ,, no one in my family knows (or cares) about Neopets . I introduced a friend , my ex-gf (when we were still dating) and my brother to it ... they all made accounts - but my brother played for a month or so then quit - his account got purged .. my friend self froze, and my ex-gf still plays but like twice a year or so ... when I rejoined Neopets in 2008 after a 2 year hiatus she noticed I became active on my side and neomailed me a welcome back .. but we didn't speak since ... hehe Quote
Franny Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 I think I've been playing Neo for...man...maybe like nine years? Ten? and only recently have I felt confident in telling non-Neo people about me playing on Neopets. It's kind of a special deal, though, because I personally know the person who came up with the concept for the Shoyru - so I have a Starry Shoyru toy that I've always hidden away, and now it sits on my dresser, all happy and (thankfully) silent. But even with "nerdy" friends, or friends who used to play long ago, or ones who share my passion about Pokemon...people just don't understand Neo so much. As a general rule, for pretty much anything you do that people don't understand, they'll give you junk about it. Or so it is in my experience. So I would say that that makes complete sense, and don't feel pressured to talk about it outside of Neo or the related communities, unless you feel like it. Quote
Airotia Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 I really need to stop talking to people about it except for my best friend, because I can tell my dad and sister don't give a bit of care about my Neopets. And it just seems to make everyone else uncomfortable... *sighs* I guess people just don't understand the awesomeness of Neopets. XD Their problem, not mine. Haha. Quote
Franny Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 :) Agreed. Good attitude!! As long as you're positive you will win. :D Quote
Ayeayeaye Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Hey I think it totally makes sense! I mean my mom always says, "you need never unsay the things you didn't say in the first place." A convoluted quote but if you think about it it really makes sense and it always has helped me. Like if you ever think you'll be teased or someone will give you a hard time for something then just don't share it. Except with us because we all appreciate Neopets for the addicting fun-ness that it is! I mean I personally don't tell anyone but my family. My boyfriend probably knows and I'm sure he think I'm weird but he also thinks it's weird that when I'm tired I walk up the stairs on my hands and knees. Anyone who cares about you for who you are would never give you a real hard time except maybe in jest and perhaps it is a good way to separate out the bad egg friends? Good luck! Quote
