Hello there! This is AA again, bringing you TDN's Altador Cup news update from the Colosseum.

I should start off this report with a little safety warning for any of you who happen to be hanging around the Colosseum (or planning to within the next few hours) - I'd recommend steering clear of the stands for a bit, especially sections A and D. Things have gotten a little heated between the spectators there after yesterday's results were announced, and well, let's just say you don't want to get caught up.

Well anyway, on to the actual report. Yesterday's tournament match-ups included two incredibly intense battles between established and upcoming cup contenders: Team Lost Desert versus Team Roo Island and Team Kreludor versus Team Haunted Woods. Well, what do you know - both of these matches ended in tremendous upsets, with both upstart teams rocketing to victory over the favourites. The Lost Desert went down in Shootout Showdown and (critically) Yooyuball, outpaced by the agility and innovative flair of Lilo Blumario's squad, losing overall even though their supporters performed fantastically in Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise. Kreludor's defeat was even more decisive - the Moons were upended by the Haunted Woods Zombies with a near sweep, broken only by a noise making draw. I guess Gargantuars do make decent goalies after all.

Curiously, despite their losses, both the Lost Desert and Team Kreludor still had enough of a point lead to stay in first and second place on the leaderboard respectively. Meanwhile, the Haunted Woods is still stuck in ninth place, right at the gates to group two, while Roo Island was overtaken by the Darigan Citadel (who reclaimed their top four spot after nearly sweeping Mystery Island - fortunately for the Natives, they managed to draw Shootout Showdown).

Things were pretty peachy for the Virtupets Robots yesterday. They had no trouble defeating Team Brightvale in Yooyuball, Make Some Noise, or Shootout Showdown. The Wizards did manage to stay in the game however, grabbing a win for their admirable Slushie Slinger record. Despite this, the points from the Robots' three wins helped them to skip ahead of Team Maraqua, who struggled against the Tyrannian Fossils' side gaming prowess in their match. While the Tyrannian Yooyuball squad couldn't stand up to Elon Hughlis' (and Dorina Hals') team on the field, the Mermaids were only able to glean a single side game win in Shootout Showdown, putting them even further behind in terms of those precious match points.

Shenkuu and Krawk Island had a slightly easier time with their underdog opponents, Teams Faerieland and Kiko Lake respectively. Two sweeps wouldn't have been out of the question if you'd asked an analyst before the match, but the Kikos out-quaffed the Pirates splendidly at the slushie stands, and the Faeries were in a goal-blasting mood when it came to Shootout Showdown.

The Terror Mountain Chillers, however, did one better, drawing Slushie Slinger against the third-ranked Team Meridell in addition to their (unquestionable by now) Shootout Showdown victory.

It's also unquestionable that Team Moltara has improved in their tournament performance this round, especially in the side games. The Altador Suns lost to the Magmas in Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown, restricting their win to victories in Yooyuball and Slushie Slinger. Not a bad game, considering the host team came away with a sweep back on day one.

As for today's matches, it'll be interesting to watch the Haunted Woods and Roo Island moving to capitalise on their victories and squeeze as many match points as they can out of Virtupets and Mystery Island. Of course, it's a very tangible (and ironic) possibility that the Robots and the Natives might turn the tables, upsetting the upsetters in their own bids for the high tiers. And it's very intriguing indeed to note that the Haunted Woods is the distinct analyst favourite for today's match, despite Virtupets proving themselves to be a dangerously strong team in several of their recent matches. Perhaps we're seeing a little reawakening of the long-dormant Zombie 'spook effect'?

We also have this year's second Pirates versus Ninjas battle to look forward to as Krawk Island faces Shenkuu. The two teams drew even in their last match, so this might very well be the last chance for them to settle the superiority question this season.

And let's not forget the Maraquan Mermaids, who will soon be battle-testing their Piranha Mode against the top-seated Team Lost Desert. Darigan Citadel versus Brightvale is another noteworthy match-up - the Brightvale Wizards managed a sweep over the Citadel on the first day of the tournament, and the Minions, now at full-strength, are out for revenge.

Best of luck to you all! This is AA, reporting for The Daily Neopets (and avoiding the riots), signing off.

Getting slightly peeved now...we should not be doing this downright badly all in a row, and my guess would be that it will take very little to chuck us down several places now...

Well you do still have a decent point lead over the occupants of tier two, so whatever happens, you probably won't drop from group one too soon.

And we drop to 7th, despite claiming a side win as well. TNT... *is speechless*

We lost, but we're on top. Whats up with that?

This explains it:

Curiously, despite their losses, both the Lost Desert and Team Kreludor still had enough of a point lead to stay in first and second place on the leaderboard respectively.

Basically, you had enough points from previous wins to stay ahead even if you didn't get many from yesterday's match. ;) The reverse goes for Maraqua - Virtupets got more points from their match and they were right behind, so they managed to get ahead. Tyrannia is very good at keeping points from stronger teams.

Great report AA! I liked how each match didn't take a paragraph.

Well, I was running from a lynch mob as I did the broadcast, so I had to keep things concise. :P

You're welcome, natives. ;)

And now we get a rematch with BV. I'd suggest taking notes, scholars.

While i'm not overly suprised by the RI vs LD matchup i'm worried about the HW vs KD match, glad we already took on HW... o.o'
