Does this count as harrassment/scam?

Hi everyone!

I have half a mind to report this person but unfortunately I don't know if anything she's done was against the rules. Here's the story:

I was really fortunate enough to be chosen to adopt my baby chomby Eluha while I was on pound chat. Shortly after Eluha was transferred to me, this person (let's call them A) neomailed asking if I would give/trade Eluha to her. I objected to trading (Eluha's a permie) but said that I would give Eluha to A if the original owner (let's call them b) asked me to (A insisted that B wished Eluha had gone to A instead of me).

A then asked me to transfer Eluha straight to her. I quote: "What if we did this. (You'd have to trust me.) I get Eluha now, or within an hour (when you're ready to say goodbye) and if B has a problem, she is switched back to you."

I thought it sounded very suspicious, and insisted that she nm B and get B to nm me if B really wanted Eluha to go to A. I didn't get a reply for about 2 weeks till yesterday, when this came:

"Do you remember me? (:

I'm A. Remember how you said Eluha could be mine if the original owner agreed, well, I remember her saying yes to me. Do you want to transfer her to me in April?

Or, haha. She's still my ultimate dreamie.

Sorry, this was straight forward."

It was a really rude shock and horrible start to my day. I really love Eluha, but I was willing to give her up if B really wanted me to. So I nmed A back asking her for proof B said yes. However, A then said that it was fine and that Eluha was mine and nothing B said would make a difference. I found that highly suspicious and nmed B (who's now my nf), who affirmed that she had NOT asked for me to give Eluha to A.

Would this count as harrassment/scam? She was obviously trying to get Eluha from me by 'cheating'. I'm really annoyed that she took advantage of both B's and my generosity to attempt to get Eluha. I would be grateful for any advice at all!!! :D Sorry for this horribly long post :S

Yes, report A. I've never reported a person, but if someone bugged me like that, disrespecting their cooplayers, insulting their intelligence, I would report them. Get your neofriend to report A too. He/She might have scammed or may attempt to, other people.

Why don't you just block her? (On neomail page). Honestly, person A seems very rude but it doesn't seem like he or she did something to warrant a freeze. For all you know person A may just be a 10 year old who just wants a baby chomby really badly. <_<

To me the way the way it came across in the OP was that it was done very deliberately. I don't believe a ten year old would be capable of creating a whole web of lies to try and manipulate the situation.

Attempted scamming is most certainly a freezable offense, just as it should be.

You should have blocked her the second she neomailed you. There are a lot of crazies out there who will try to scam you out of a pet.

One time I was pounding a pet to my side account. All of a sudden I got a neomail from this girl saying that it was really *her* pet and she was doing a pound drop. LOL. She showed me a bunch of horrible screen shots as 'proof' and yeah... BLOCK.

I honestly cannot believe you even considered giving up Eluha! B gave you the pet for a reason! If she wanted to trade with A, she would have. Good thing Eluha has a great home :D

Lying and trying to manipulate you into giving her your pet? REPORT!! :)

I agree with the majority of the posts here - report her. If she is just a ten year old really wanting a baby chomby then neopets should take this into account. But this sounds far too manipulative and deliberate for that. And it certainly sounds like she was trying to scam you out of your pet.

Thanks so much for all your advice!!! :D I might report her then, though I'm not sure if TNT considers this a scam. But man, there're really horrible people like that on neopets (hrtbrk, I totally empathise with you)! I didn't know there was a block button (haha, call me a n00b :P)! She's actually a 16 yr old (if her lookup is accurate), and she goes on PC a lot (more reason to make me want to report her). If I do report, will TNT keep me anonymous? I really don't want her to know that it was me for fear of some kind of revenge :S

I would report A. What she was doing, everyone would know better. Even a 10 year old. They'd know that it's not right to LIE to get what you want, which is obviously what she did, when she tried to claim that B gave the OK for you to send Eluha to her.

Eluha is your well deserved pet. (And she's absolutely adorable, by the way) Don't let anyone take her... or try to trick you into it.

Block her, then report her.

I hate to say it, I've never reported anyone and think that it's done WAY too often, and for ridiculous reasons (or none at all)...but I would report this as well.

It was admirable that you were willing to give up your find-if it were the right thing to do-I can't say that most people would have done the same.

It's truly unfortunate that we have to be so hard-nosed about such trivial things as pixels, but the fact remains that too many people out there just don't care about what's right and wrong.

If you don't report someone who is attempting to be a scammer, then it is only a matter of time before they get someone else.

Dearie, told you to block that person -.-;;. I'd report her immediately and well, since that person doesn't have proof and I know how much you love Eluha, keep her xD. You have no idea how many people actually use such horrid excuses to 'scam' others of a pet.

I imagine so. all they would do is send her a warning or freeze her, generally giving her a very generic explanation. also, what sort of revenge could she possibly cook up? if anyone bothers you again just report immediately to avoid any risks ;)

Thanks again everyone! I'm worried that she will figure out that I was the one who reported her, and then she'll cook up a story and report me, causing me to get frozen :S. My neofriend thinks that I should just leave the matter alone since A has not replied the neomail I sent her yesterday (which told her to leave us alone forever. Though that might be because I took the advice and blocked her :P), and because we both fear retribution. But yes, I agree that it'll just be a matter of time before someone else gets scammed by her, so I don't know what to do!! :S

It's all anonymous! Don't worry about it. She can't find out it was you other than taking a guess. For all she would know, TNT caught onto her little game and froze her themselves, or B contacted TNT or any of the other people she might be harassing.

I agree with the posts here so far...you should report person A. Also a good thing to do is on your computer is go to the page where you are to fill out a form to get your account unfrozen. Go through that form and put as much detail as you can into a word document and save it onto your computer. That way you have recent information about your account and it might be quicker getting your account unfrozen if that does happen which I don't think you'll get frozen. Definately report person A though.

Its horrible what people do to others! :(

Don't report, it was a scam but noone who goes on that site should be frozen for cunning, CGing yes, but not cunning. Unless A's account isn't all that, you can report

That's wrong. This person meant to take someone's pet without permission. Maybe someone else does not have a forum like this to access to ask for help and would just give the pet.]

Anyone who tries to scam something, anything, of anyone is a bad person and should be at least warned.

First... what they tried to do was beyond "cunning" They flat out lied to get what they wanted. I have the feeling you wouldn't say this, if this had happened to you.

And second... someone should only be reported if they don't have a great account? But if they do the same thing, but have an amazing account, they should be allowed to get away with it?

Also, you just said yourself, that it was a scam. TNT wants us to report people that are scamming people.
