Nay For Having A Hospitalized Parent

Mods: Please forgive me if I trip any censors or break any rules in this post. I'm seriously distraught over this.

Early Sunday morning, around four, my dad found my mother on the floor screaming. She couldn't stand, and was rushed to the hospital. She was diagnosed with vertigo, has been in the hospital since then. Dad and I have been keeping my sister posted on her condition.

Everyone says she will be okay, but my mom is 75. She's standing now with assistance, but the whole thing still scares me. My sister lives in Tampa, so Dad and I are the closest ones.

She may now be going to a specialized facility tomorrow to get better. I don't like that idea. I've seen too many stories on the news about them. I say specialized facillity because I don't know if I can type the real phrase...Nursing home.

It's one that has a rehabilitation side, and my mom would be on that side. It's only until she can take care of herself.

Thanks for reading, and I will update you..

I'm so sorry about your mom. :( It's always impossibly hard when there's anything wrong with a parent.

I don't know how much you know about vertigo, or if you've researched it, but it's generally a spinning sensation caused by an inner ear problem.

My dad has had periodic problems with vertigo for a long time. (I'd say easily 15-20 years.) He mostly just has to lay on the couch and not move anything, even his eyes, until it passes or everything spins and he gets sick.

Was she injured when it started like having fallen, or have they said what caused it?

Rehab/nursing homes can sound really scary, but they aren't all bad. My grandpa fell a couple times last year and was feeling weak. They took him to the hospital and they could never find a cause. Because he lived alone, they sent him to a nursing home, with a rehab clinic, for a couple weeks to build up his strength. After he was out, he was so much stronger and with additional help from a nurse/helper that comes for a few hours each day to run errands/clean/cook, his health has improved so greatly, he's been feeling better than he has in nearly 10 years. (My grandpa is in his early 90s)

Just try not to worry and find someone to talk to about your concerns. I've found if I keep my worries in my mind, they take on a world of their own and are so much harder to cope with. And ask questions. The more you know, the less you try to fill in the holes yourself.

Good news! Mom came home today! She has some medicine she needs to take, and will be going to rehab once a day at a local hospital. She won't be going to a nursing home for rehab which is a load off my mind.

Spritzie- She fell walking to the bathroom early Sunday. I am so grateful she fell on the bedroom carpet rather than the tile in the bathroom. What surprises me is that Dana, my mom's dog, didn't start barking when my mom fell. Usually, you can have the slightest scratch, and Dana runs up to you.

I'm going to see my mom tomorrow. I just finished making her favorite...Chocolate chip cookies. If she's stuck in bed for three weeks, I'm going to spoil her every chance I get.

I visited mom today, and she loved the flowers and cookies! I even brought her lip balm because some medicines she is taking can give her dry, chapped lips. Just seeing me made mom's day. I'm going to make her dinner Sunday night. :)
