Hert123
Hey everyone.. I just wanted to post this on here as nobody I know is a dedicated fan as much as I am. So today, Zayn Malik announced through a Facebook status he will be leaving One Direction. (For those of you who don't know; One Direction aka 1D consist(ed) out of 5 members: Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik. They're singers and made four albums so far) So yeah, Ive been around in the One Direction fandom for about 4 years now, of the 5 years they existed. I've seen them in concert trice and have all their albums. So when I read the news, I was just.. Devastated. I couldn't process it. But right now, I broke down. Zayn is leaving one direction and it is for real. Most people I know don't understand how much this can hurt. These 5 boys made me really happy and now.. It doesn't feel the same. I currently just feel like crying, but I cant.. I just needed to say this to someone, even though some of you probably don't get it. Thanks for reading.. leverhelven
I don't like 1D but I certainly know how you feel. When I was 15~16 years old, the singer from my top favorite band (Nightwish) got kicked out of the band and I was absolutely devastated, just like you. I remember I cried for days and felt horrible for a long time. I just wanna tell you that, believe me, it gets better. You'll eventually learn to enjoy the band in its new formation, and if Zayn Malik follows a solo carreer you'll might enjoy it as well. bijyuarukei
I can't say that I was every a fan of One Direction, but I couldn't imagine if something happened to someone in my fandom or favorite band. I'd probably literally cry. For a while. I think it would be absolutely heartless of someone to make fun of the fans because of this. the_microwave
Oh gosh, big hugs to you as we mourn Zayn's absence <3 I think I fall into the "too old to be a 1D fan" category, which means no one around me wants to listen to me cry about Zayn all day, but...I know how you feel, this is horrible. I'm been down about this all day. Honestly, I'm still kind of in denial; absolutely heartbroken by this news. Trust me, you're not alone with this! Don't let anyone tell you your feelings are wrong or unwarranted.
Shane for Wax
I guess he just wanted to go in a... different direction. I've seen two of my bands lose a member (Spice Girls and Nightwish) and it is different without them but it will get better. I'm not a 1D fan, I just really like Zayn lol
Hert123
Thanks everyone. I cried after posting this and still wanna cry when I got up this morning. I'm seventeen, which makes me also 'a bit too old for 1D'.. I just hope that the other four members will stick together for a long time and that they will not get another fifth member. Thanks again everyone (L)
brynchilla
Although I am not a fan of One Direction, there are plenty of people who are and my heart goes out to them. One Direction is a huge part of many people's lives, and it's natural that people would have intense emotions about it. There's nothing wrong with it! Give yourself time to mourn and grieve. If you want to or need to cry, do so. Your emotions are very valid. Don't feel bad about your age. You are allowed to like what you like, good music is good music and age doesn't stop you from liking it. It shouldn't. I read a post about it on tumblr that said this was also a sad time because it meant less representation. I'm going to post it here, because I can't say it better: Zayn Malik is one of the only Pakistani celebrities in all of Western pop culture. His presence in a popular boy band has been crucial and uplifting for many Muslims and people of color. The kid has an amazing voice and he’s put up with a ridiculous amount of shit over the course of the last 5 years. The fact that he has left One Direction is not a throw-away, frivolous event, but something that has connotations and deeper meaning across our popular culture. Shane for Wax
The only problem I have with that is everyone is assuming he isn't going to go solo, or even form another band. I think a lot of the 'loss' is jumping the gun a little. If people are actually cut up about him leaving, not that One Direction has lost a member, I have no doubt they would follow his solo career like so many Nightwish fans did. Or with Destiny's Child and Beyonce (incidentally if you google about zayn and beyonce there's a whole article about this phenomenon but I didn't read it just interesting to note). Representation in a boy band itself? Yes. Representation as a singer known in Western culture? No.
