ALP Battle Pet Question

I know that there's a "battle pet" available through the service and I was curious how it worked. I was under the assumption that since the DoN series were unavailable, the avatars would be as well. Since the lending service is still available, does that mean you would just need to win a battle with the corresponding opponent to obtain them? Thanks in advance.

DoN is down, so you're unable to get advance in the story, or to get the Meerca Henchmen avatar (although you still can battle them). However, Ghost Lupe, Kasuki Lu, Meuka, and the Black Pteri avatars are all still available.
