Lab Ray Awesomeness!!!

Today I got my Peophin zapped to Marcitite!!! All that money I spent on lab ray pieces finally pays off! Although now I'm confilicted. I should keep zapping one of my pets so I can maybe get something else cool but I really like what species they are. My Lupe and Koi are both just blue and I should zap them so maybe they'll get painted something nice but I don't want them to not be a Lupe or a Koi anymore. :( what should I do? If I didn't risk zapping the Peophin he would have never become marcitite.

Congrats on the great zapping-result! I've never been that lucky with the lab ray--all boring stat changes for me, with two color changes that I didn't care for much. Half the fun is the risk, though. I'd say keep going for it. You never know!

To be honest, if you really really don't want your pet species to change, you might not want to zap your pet. I feel like there is a higher chance for your pet species to change before you will get a good pet colour change. But, this is just based on MY experience with the lab ray... I've had one cool colour change (Eventide), and 4-5 species changes in the past 6 months or so.

To be fair, one of my pets started off as a meerca and when it was zapped to invisable I stopped caring about it too much. It kindof became my throwaway experiment pet that I zapped everyday in hope to get my dream pet by accident. I never did, but I did end up earning enough to buy a transmorgrification potion for it so now that invisable meerca is a mutant draik. After that I started zapping my peophin because it was the pet I cared the least about if it were to become something gross. Now that peophin became something cool and I have to start zapping my koi. Maybe my koi will get a great zap but maybe it will become something I don't want. I'm actually not too worried about it. I can always buy a morphing potion if I really need to. The benefits of the labray have been too much fun to stop zapping now!

The pet pet one scares me because I don't want my pet pet to become a pile of sludge!

The petpet one can definitely be a bit scary, but I ended up with some cool petpets that I wouldn't have even considered that match my pets perfectly: a Maraquan snowickle (worth 3M) for a male Royalgirl Flotsam, and an Island candychan (worth ~20M+) for a (future) Island Mynci. I did end up abandoning the sort-of matching petpet on my Pirate Ixi when I happened upon a pirate petpet paintbrush, though -- a pirate poppit was just too cute to pass up. You do end up with soot a fair amount of time, and I've definitely lost at least 5 or 6 over the years (yes, they can completely vanish, too) -- but I started with some of the 1np petpets from KQ, and they're really just pixels, so I don't mind too much. Plus, the petpet lab is fairly cheap.

Oh, there is one other obnoxious thing about the petpet lab. You know how you can change your petpet's name? The lab will change it, and even if you change it back, TNT will still call it the lab-given name. Which isn't so bad when it's "snarkie," but "smellygymsocks" is just not a good petpet name.

Unless you're really attached to your pet's name or stats I would just zap it. It is more likely to change species than a great colour, but you can always put it in the pound and adopt a new lupe/koi and start all over until you get the colour you want. (Sorry if that sounded harsh, but if it's not a permanent pet I don't tend to get attached and have no problem putting pets in the pound.)
