Wildbreeze
Today I woke up early and just wanted to get some school stuff done. My computer told me that it was fixing some things, and that I could continue working. An hour later, my computer froze and blanked, eventually coming up with a terrifying information screen, accusing me of doing illegal things and asking for money. Obviously it was fake, but it was a virus, and it still scared me to death. We got the computer to do a system restore and got it to open normally, and now I'm running scans... I've lost school notes, but at least my computer seems to be functioning normally now. Moral of the story, be careful where you go on the internet. Viruses are scary. :(
karmacow
I've never heard of viruses that ask for bribes before :nerd: But yeah, that's some scary stuff. I've had viruses before, but nothing like that. And thankfully it's been a long time since I've had a virus.
Anxious Zombie
Any virus that tries to get into my computer not only gets eliminated, but the anti-virus I'm using puts a nice big warning label on whatever site it came from. I lost everything on my computer in the past because I let my cousin use it (found out it was for porn).
Mouseykins
My husband got a virus similar to that a few weeks ago. IT is 100% a scam! For those who are unaware: NEVER EVER pay for anything online to get your computer back from an untrusted source. To make sure you got rid of it I highly suggest running a malware scan. My husband picked a free one up from Softpedia and ran the scan in safe mode and everything has been working fine since then.
Nimphal
Oh, I know which one you got! There are several viruses going around asking for money, one is even pretending to be a Microsoft tool and is literally the most annoying thing I have had to deal with. I am glad System Restore worked for you and it didn't go any further :)
Wildbreeze
It actually came up trying to look like it was from the government, saying that I was involved in child porn, zoophilia, etc. and it told me to go somewhere to pay to get access back. I knew it was a scam (seriously, they wouldn't just let you off the hook for stuff like that if it were real), but I was still terrified that my computer was going to be gone... I just need to be more careful about where I go on the internet or through google. I restored to earlier in the week on my computer, which lost me all my notes from the start of the semester... but better to be safe. Running a full scan on the computer, and it's still going... At this point, I'm just very glad we got my computer to work. I went and changed security on all my important accounts, just to feel better about it. For now, I'm sticking solely to sites I know and trust, and not following links to anywhere I don't know.
Doozy
Do you use tumblr? Apparently there are a couple of fake accounts or something that post these "government" viruses with jpegs and tag mostly my little pony related pages. I don't know the details, but that's what I've heard. May or may not be true XD as with every rumor.
Wildbreeze
I don't have a tumblr account, but there are maybe 3 tumblr pages that I regularly look at. Might have to avoid them, too.
