md97
What do chromosomes do? I got down that it stores genetic information, but I need more for my project. Hopefully this is the right topic in the eyes of zombique.
SidtheSnail
You spelled her name wrong. It's Zombiiesque. 2 I`s http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Chromosomes Lydia Trebond, Mouseykins, Rebecca~ and 6 others
pchau123
They duplicate in interphase I of meiosis I and then they pair up as sister chromosomes in prophase until metaphase I where they line up in the middle and then it's where the sister chromosomes (tetrad) separate into two different cells starting in anaphase and cytokinesis. After that in Meiosis II they line up again and this time sister chromosomes come apart and turns into sister chromatids. Learned meiosis in Gen Bio I in college and I remembered it and felt the need to recite it :3... They do a lot though. You're going to have to be more specific. The Bandit
rofl, I love lmgtfy - never seen that before. I was going to suggest http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromosome md97
passiflora
What's the project? They don't really do much other than store genetic information (as you said). They're literally just pieces of DNA. Other things that might be related/of interest: - they divide so that new cells have a copy of the genome (mitosis/meiosis) - looks different depending on what the cell is doing (chromatin - uncondensed vs condensed) - they take on different forms in prokaryotes and eukaryotes (e.g. bacteria vs humans) - chromosome abnormalities - extra copies, deletions, etc. (e.g. Down Syndrome)
Angeló
you just threw me 12 years back !! anyway chromosomes carry genes which are our whole genetic map ... I'm no good at explaining stuff this is why I could never be a professor lol
Emily
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromosome Wikipedia for the win. Google is also an option. Mouseykins
