I just took a ride on the Amtrak & its the first time all summer I've really been able to read. So my recommendation is take a trip or go somewhere you can't be distracted & just read :)

I read too much. I say too much, because I'm constantly running out of things to read. I find a new author I enjoy, and read everything they've ever written. Then I'm stuck trying to find another new author. I usually read a book, if it's good, in about one day.

I can rarely ever find anything appealing for me to read lately. If there's something that appeals to me (just by reading a summary) it is usually not at the library or there are very few copies of it at the bookstore.

However, there are those rare instances where I find something appealing and it hasn't been checked out of the library :)

I need book recommendations. :laughingsmiley:

My parents are buying me some manga tomorrow, so i am gonna read as much as *almost* ever.

What kind of books do you enjoy? I prefer legal thrillers, like John Grisham. And adventure types like Clive Cussler.

My more highly recommended authors/series are:

John Grisham

Clive Cussler (My favorite is the Dirk Pitt series, but he has 5 series, I think.)

Matthew Reilly (Jack West Jr series) (Adventure)

James Rollins (Sigma Series, but all are good) (Adventure)

Andy McDermott (Adventure)

Steve Martini (Paul Madriani series) (Legal Thriller)

I like crime novels, fantasy, realistic fiction and in some cases, young adult novels. (I usually won't bother reading a YA novel unless it's dramatic/gritty or fantasy.)

I don't really like nonfiction unless the book is on a topic that interests me. The only nonfiction book I ever enjoyed was about music censorship. I read that mainly because I was doing a research paper, but because the topic (and the book) interested me so much I read it cover-to-cover :P

Also, don't bother recommending any romance novels unless you think it'll convince me to like the genre. XD

I don't read romance novels, or science fiction. Fantasy wise, all I've really read was the Game of Thrones series. (Well, I've read the first book, still waiting on the rest.)

If legal falls under crime, I think you'd like Lisa Scottoline (She is a semi-acquired taste. My husband isn't big into legal thrillers, and doesn't like her. I love both.) and definitely John Grisham. Steve Martini and Brad Meltzer are good crime/legal thrillers, as well as "Color of Law" by Mark Gimenez. That's one of my top favorite books ever.

I've read The Pelican Brief...that's really the only legal thriller I've ever read xD I read it in seventh grade. haha

I would think legal thrillers would fall under the "crime" category...

The Pelican Brief was okay. My favorite of his was The Broker and the Street Lawyer. Those were awesome. But all of his are amazing, especially the newer ones. I actually considered going into law after reading his books. (I had to read The Runaway Jury for my Law and Order class in HS, and within a year, I'd read everything he'd written.)

Rachiee, do you like humor as well as fantasy? If so, Christopher Moore has a great trilogy, Bloodsucking Fiends, You Suck, & Bite Me. There's a bit of romance, but it's a very humorous series about a woman who becomes a vampire & is trying to come to grips with the situation, ends up finding this really dorky male to run errands for her/let her drink his blood & ends up turning him (I think by accident at first) when he threatens to leave her.

Actually, Christopher Moore writes a lot of fantasy humor, so I recommend him if it fits your style.

As far as general fantasy/sci-fi, I've been going back and reading some old classics, like I, Robot and I Am Legend, things of that nature, and then trying to find modernized versions or novels that center around a similar theme. Also, checking Amazon and seeing what people also bought when they bought those books sometimes helps a lot too. Or check GoodReads.com.

I'm a big reading/writing nerd so I could go on about this for hours . . . :)

Personally I LOVE books by authors like Ted Dekker and James Patterson.

But I'm a total Eragon nerd :D I love that series. Harry Potter too :D

The only books i like to read besidde fantasy is MANGA. >:D I bought some manga a while ago. :)

Mangas are nice, but aren't long enough. I can read one very quickly. Books generally last me a whole day.

I'm with Spritzie on that. I love manga but even the first one I got (waaayy back) I remember my mom got mad at me because I read it on the car ride home from the mall and was done with it by the time we got home :)

Still, there are some like Azumanga Daioh that I can read over and over again, so it is sometimes well worth it

My mom always got upset with that when I read comic books when I was younger. She'd buy me a ton, and I'd have them all read in no time. :laughingsmiley:

Lol, that's amazing Syrin. :P

And it depends on the manga you actually get. The manga I got was pretty large. It has over 500 pages.

I've never read a manga before. I don't think that I've ever had a reason to.

My husband got me started on them. He's big on them. Now, I enjoy them. They're a nice break from the usual stuff I read.

I should really pick up a good manga sometime. I've really been wanting to read Akira, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Uzumaki but I've never bothered to actually buy the books. /lazy :(

Manga is okay. I haven't really read any in a while though. It's kind of hard for me to find a series that I can read past one or two volumes though.

If I do find a series (anime or manga) I like, I won't do fanfics or fanart 'cause I don't want to be labelled as a weeaboo. That's probably one of the worst things you can be labelled as xD

^ Don't let the idea that people might call you names prevent you from doing something you like. Generally, if you're mature and don't act like an obsessive crazy fangirl, no one will say anything rude to you.

Well, I never acted like an obvious fangirl (over anything anime/manga-related or not) in the first place. But I don't do fanart/fanfics in general unless I know a lot about the book, series, movie, etc. :P
