livvy Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 I haven't seen any Polly Pockets lately. I guess I should be glad, if the commercials are that bad. I adored the little Polly Pockets! I mean, I hated Barbies and dolls and such, I just thought the compactness of Polly Pockets was adorable. I never actually had any though. Quote
Divya Bean Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 livvy, you definitely dont want to see them. The song is running through my head right now. o_O I never really liked Barbies, but I really dont see how people take joy in pulling their heads and arms off. Quote
Spritzie Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 I loved them. The size was great too. I was able to take them places easily. I'd take one to my sister's basketball games, practices, doctors appointments, and I could be quietly amused for hours. My mom loved that. Quote
IrishLiz Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I loved Polly Pockets too! I had a mansion, and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I would set it up with some of the houses and play for hours. I loved the compactness too - you can take them anywhere! How are the new ones different? Quote
Wembly Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 polly pocket then polly pocket now They're huge now in comparison and Polly is actually able to move and such. Its really more like a small barbie now. Quote
IrishLiz Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 That's not a Polly Pocket!!! It doesn't fit in your pocket!!! Quote
livvy Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 EXACTLY, Liz. It's so saddening. Kids just can't be satisfied unless the toy has 50 zillion moving parts. Quote
Wembly Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Never have truer words been said but alas, the juggernaut of commercialism and advertising triumphs again over the days of yore  haha typing that was more fun that I thought it would be Quote
Unstream Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Woo! Huzzah for speaking lowly of kids without actually ever stopping to place ourselves in their shoes! Seriously, you guys sound like those adults who think the internet is going to render the mass majority of our generation useless and that cell phones are the primary focus of all our attention :P Quote
livvy Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Like I told CAV, I do it in jest. :P *is currently on a computer and speaking with internet friends* I clearly don't condemn it. @Wemb: It was also remarkably enjoyable to read. xP Quote
Unstream Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I'm confused as to why there was the "*is currently on a computer and speaking with internet friends*" part is there :P Nah, it's just one of my pet peeves. That and people forgetting to write the second "o" in too. Quote
livvy Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I was pointing out how absurd it would be for me to disapprove of the internet. :P Quote
The Score in Blue Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Now now, we can't really disprove of the internet :P So, how's everybody's lives? Quote
-Ryan Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I disapprove of the internet! Except for every part of it I approve of. -nodnod- Quote
Spritzie Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 polly pocket then :laughingsmiley: Wow. I must say... I have the "Then" Polly Pocket you showed. I distinctly remember it. EXACTLY, Liz. It's so saddening. Kids just can't be satisfied unless the toy has 50 zillion moving parts. Does anyone else hear a voice in their head of a grandparent saying they used to be amused with a hoop and a stick? Seriously, you guys sound like those adults who think the internet is going to render the mass majority of our generation useless and that cell phones are the primary focus of all our attention :P You mean it won't??? :laughingsmiley: It depends. Some kids/teens/adults, all they care about is phones/texting. It's not limited by age. But it sure is fun to act older. I disagree with adults (or anyone) that think the Internet is the root of all things evil (like my mom). It's definitely cell phones. Quote
Wembly Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I disagree with adults (or anyone) that think the Internet is the root of all things evil (like my mom). It's definitely cell phones. I'm confused. You agree with your mom or your mom is evil because of the internet :S Quote
Spritzie Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I meant my mom is one of those people that think the internet is evil. And I disagree with her. Quote
CAV of Gang Green Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I'm confused as to why there was the "*is currently on a computer and speaking with internet friends*" part is there :P Nah, it's just one of my pet peeves. That and people forgetting to write the second "o" in too. I do it as well. But I always take note that I'm only 14, and therefore still a minor. That's just a strange pet peeve. I don't hate it to. :P Quote
Quark Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Ah, Polly Pocket! The old ones were great, back in the glorious day of toys. (Commonly known as the 90's.) It saddens me to know that some of the younger board members never got to see the internet back in the days of yore. Ah, back when everyone had a Homestead or Angelfire page, complete with rotating .gifs, non-stop .midis and a dial-up connection. Good times, good times. Ditto for MSDos and the awful, yet wonderful games that came with it. Plus, old printers. Anytime I used to have to print something out, I would always do it before dinner. By the time I was done eating, my pixelated black and white pages would be done, after a good twenty-minutes of loud, electronic screeching. Quote

Haha, my friend was telling me about some study where they played the dial up sound for kids about 10-13 and most of them had no idea what it was. They were guessing thing like it was an alien and stuff. Made me laugh. Quote
Spritzie Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 That does bring back memories, Quark. The 90s were awesome. Things were just more fun, in different ways, back then. Quote

They were guessing thing like it was an alien and stuff. Made me laugh. ALIENS. Haha, that's excellent. I would be scared of dial-up sounds now if I heard them for the first time, I'm sure. Or how about the sheer frustration of loosing internet connection because someone used the telephone? Get off the phone, I need to search something on AskJeeves! Quote
rugrat0ne Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Well, I still have dial-up, but then, I live in the sticks. I hate it. Quote
CAV of Gang Green Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 I love the sound an old computer would make when it was loading. It was awesome hearing that during the night. It would remind me of Atari, and we all know Atari kicked butt. Quote
Spritzie Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 I remember an article in the paper, like the hints column, where a secretary at a school wrote in, asking the columist to tell parents that they should teach their kids how to use land line phones. She said she was alarmed by how many kids didn't know how to use them. They'd dial, then pick it up. They didn't know what I dial tone was, etc. Quote
