Spritzie
School years seem to start so early now. I remember when I was in school, a lot didn't start until Sept. (At one point, they pushed it back further in Sept. because of the heat, and the main school district's schools didn't have A/C.)
Wembly
Th schools around here don't start until after labor day so I guess it just depends on where you live.
CAV of Gang Green
For me it starts on Sept 8th. Maybe I'm lucky, but I should really work on my break homework.
Spritzie
Things have changed though. When I was in grade school, our winter break was nearly a month. I remember my mom always trying to figure out what to do with my sister and I during that time. Now it's super short.
CAV of Gang Green
My winter breaks are a week and a half. They start on Christmas Eve! C'mon! I can't get some more time before Christmas!?
Spritzie
Wow. Ours started a couple weeks before Christmas, and went into January a ways.
CAV of Gang Green
Mine starts on Christmas Eve, and it ends January 5th. Real bummer.
Spritzie
That's the kind of "holiday" I got off at an old job. They closed down from Dec. 24th, to Jan. 5th last year.
CAV of Gang Green
Well it's a poor holiday at best. Before you know it, I'll get Christmas Eve and Christmas Day off, then I'm back to school that soon. And the break homework, don't get me started. They say "have an awesome break!", and then they stuff you with homework to the point you can't do ANYTHING during the break.
Spritzie
I don't remember getting much homework before holiday breaks. At least you get time off. Now, with my job, I don't get holidays off, unless I request them off, and take vacation time. (My job is 24/7, so if a holiday falls in your scheduled days, you have to work it, unless you take it off.)
CAV of Gang Green
Yeah, but did you ever get homework for SUMMER VACATION?
Spritzie
Yeah I did. Only freshman year of HS. (Well, technically, before I went to HS.) Because I was in Honors English, we had a reading list, which included 3-4 books, a screen play, and such.
CAV of Gang Green
I've been having summer homework since I graduated from elementary. It was required every summer for my middle school. And this year it's to see if I can peform to the standards of the school. For 8th grade, I had to do a 100 question Math packet, 3 book reports, and a 2 page essay on what I want to learn from 8th grade Social Studies. It's hard for me to say "World War 1 and World War 2" for 2 pages without repeating myself.
Spritzie
It's not fun at all, but I guess homework, even over a vacation, is part of the school life. But since you're going to HS, you don't have much longer left of school life, until college. Which is usually pretty different.
IrishLiz
Good morning! I got here early today. My HS had two weeks off for Christmas. At the university, you get about a month. I don't think that applies to me anymore though. I usually had summer readings for my English classes. I think that's about it.
Spritzie
I remember having small projects over breaks. Like over Spring Break in 3rd grade, we had to do a diorama for a book we had read in class.
-Ryan
Hello everone. ^^ How are you all doing today? :) Projects over breaks? We DID get homework but never projects over breaks last year. I'm hoping it's the same way this year.
Spritzie
Hey Ryan. I'm doing alright. How was school today? It wasn't often that they did that. But it did happen. And of course, I waited until the last minute.
-Ryan
Good to hear. ^^ It was okay. -shrug- Who dosen't? xD
Spritzie
I'm sure there's some people that don't. I don't know of any. Nothing like racing at the last minute, to end up with a quality project.
