IrishLiz
That must stink when they have to close the highways. Here, they pretty much only close them for construction. :laughingsmiley: And soaked jeans are the worst, especially when it's cold. The never get dry! :sad01_anim: I'm going to try to make pita bread from a new recipe. Wish me luck! EDIT: Oh yeah I would hate scraping the car. I don't think I could live somewhere where that is necessary. I would always be late for work.
Spritzie
My husband loves scraping the car. He thinks it's fun. (He's from Florida, and had never seen snow until he moved here.) So he usually does it for me. Last winter though, I had my car doors freeze shut. He'd get them open in the morning. But I'd have it happen while I was at work too. Not fun. IrishLiz
They froze shut?!?!?!? That's crazy! Man, us desert folk know nothing about these things. I wish though that I had some experience driving in snow and/or ice because it might be difficult if I have to later. Or, I could just avoid living in places with snow, and do what I do now and just visit those places.
Divya Bean
He loves scraping cars? Wow. You lucky duck. If only my sister loved making my bed, or maybe cleaning my room. :laughingsmiley:
Noog
I will admit, I would not pass up a chance to shovel snow or scrape a car :) I love winter!!!!!!
livvy
I've had doors freeze shut before. But they didn't freeze shut in the sense that there was ice blocking them moving; they froze shut in the sense that the mechanism inside the door that makes it open or close automatically got so cold it stopped working. We have a cool car scraper that is like a scrapy thing built into a glove. That way, your hand doesn't have to freeze with the ice that's coming off. EDIT: I have never had the opportunity to shovel snow. The one day I had enough to shovel, I spent the whole day playing in it. It was melted by the next day. Noog
That reminds me of the ipod solution in South Korea :P People couldn't use their iPhones or iTouches in the cold because they were wearing gloves, and the touch screen uses heat transfer sensors so that only your finger can work. The solution? Frozen hot dogs :P They conduct heat just like a finger. It looks funny watching someone flop a hot dog at their iphone. XD
IrishLiz
That's absolutely hilarious. :laughingsmiley: They still work when they're frozen?
livvy
Hahahaha! XD And how do you happen to know this, Noog?
Divya Bean
Lol! That is hilarious! *imagines* HAHAHAHAHA! I might just have to try that...jk.
Noog
How do I know this? I was watching the nerd channel (G4, probably in the top 5 channels ever to be made) and one of the shows talked about it because they're all tech-y. Attack of the Show (on G4) is one of my favorite non-game show TV shows of all time. Then to fill my game show need, they have Ninja Warrior and Unbeatable Banzuke (both english subtitled from Japan). Yes, they work when frozen because they conduct and transfer heat off of the iPhone just like a human finger.
Divya Bean
That sounds like a cool show. What time is it on?
IrishLiz
Ninja Warrior is totally awesome! I like Unbeatable Banzuke too, but Ninja Warrior is better. Did you ever see Extreme Elimination Challenge? That's what Wipeout is modeled after. The Japanese show was better though - totally hilarious! And I think the people that dubbed over in English were making up the translations. It was awesome. I'm also a huge fan of Iron Chef (the original Japanese version). livvy
Iron Chef is a great show. I really enjoyed watching it when they still showed the Japanese version on Food Network. Now they just show the American version, and it's less cool. :( I liked seeing the other culture's dishes. I rarely watch TV... but I wish I'd known there was a nerd channel! I'll have to look this up and see if I have it.
Noog
O.M.G. I love Iron Chef! Either one is fine with me :) I love seeing how they implement the secret ingredient (Bacon ice cream is a particularly interesting one). I've never seen extreme elimination challenge, but I'm sure anything would be better than wipeout and the horrible commentary. Attack of the Show comes on Monday - Thursday on G4 at 6 p.m. and it's an hour long. On Friday they have a week in wrap-up version with stuff from the week. livvy
Bacon... ice cream...? *flashes back to the first conversation Noog ever had in the HOP* That reminds me of the chocolate covered bacon they offered at the fair this year. :sick01: I didn't get any.
IrishLiz
Well the commentary was horrible for Extreme Elimination Challenge, but it was funny bad. Wipeout is just bad. Also, at the end, they did the Top 10 wipeouts (for lack of a better term :* ). That was the best part. I love watching the crazy ingredients on the original Iron Chef, like sea urchin roe. I'd like to see the Americans do that! Also, on the original show, they didn't know what the secret ingredient was ahead of time. That takes away from some of the fun, I think. Noog
Yeah, the bacon ice cream was weird :P It wasn't any whole bacon, the raw bacon went into the ice cream machine and.... :sick01: I feel sorry for the judges sometimes. I would eat bacon ice cream ANY DAY over Cow Tongue or Caviar Ice cream.
Revenge
I always wanted to have the G4 channel. Ever since those satellite cable box started to get popular. Now I don't even have basic cable...
livvy
I have to agree with you on that. I won't be eating anything's tongue, or anything that tastes like a tongue. Eww. I often feel bad for the judges. And what if one of them is allergic to something so obscure that it shouldn't be a problem, but then it shows up in one of the dishes? What do they do?
IrishLiz
I always wonder about allergies. I'm allergic to peanuts, so what if I wanted to be a judge for something like that and the dish had peanuts? Maybe they disclose these things before the chefs cook, who knows. Noog
Liz, I think I know what you're talking about! It came on spike, and it was called EXC or something like that. There were two japanese men hosting, but EVERYONE in the show had really bad/funny english dubs :P They would have matchups between geeks or construction workers....but yeah, is that Extreme Elimination Challenge? :woot:
livvy
I could never be a judge. I'm too picky. I mean, they eat some things that make me think "Oh, I so envy you", but there are some foods that I just couldn't eat. Bacon ice cream would be one of them. And some of the odd things the chefs pair together... ugh, I just couldn't do it.
Noog
I'm pretty picky with my food as well. My biggest pet peeve might be...fish. I don't mind some shellfish, but actual fish are disgusting. Especially the fish sandwiches at school which had scales in it sometimes :sick01:
IrishLiz
YES! That's Extreme Elimination Challege! :D I haven't seen it on Spike for a long time.
