I try to find my style, the one I'm the best at, and I enjoy the most.

But I can't choose between my styles, I like all of them, so I'll keep drawing them, but I'm trying to do 1 main style.

I recently bought a book to learn how-to-draw manga, and I made my first drawing yesterday.

Should i go on with drawing manga as main? Or at least, do you guys like the drawing?

(ps: sorry for the bad quality of the picture, but my scanner doesn't get pencil-drawings, and I want to keep it as a pencil-drawing)

here it is:

Should you go on with drawing anime/manga? After that picture you whipped up, you should.

I recommend checking out your local library or bookstore for books on learning how to draw anime/manga characters, or you can check this site out if you're willing to sharpen your skills on drawing such characters.

Also Lisa, I wish you the best of luck on your endeavours, and I'll be looking forward for more manga-style art from you.

I used to attempt to draw in manga style, though it usually ended up more on the chibi-side of things . . . & yours is certainly far better than mine are! I say keep at, especially since this is just your first attempt & it is already quite good! I say keep at it!

Not bad for the first time. But you can sharpen your skills more by referring to books and such.

And personally, even my drawings are kinda bad to be precise.

I can see the technique you are using to draw it and I would say it's pretty cool! and every hard thing you work on gives more experience ;) so every time you draw you get better :graduated: Go on!!!!

I love it .. especially the eyes ...

however , i can't shake the feeling that she doesn't look .. alive enough ... she doesn't speak to me ... it's a pretty picture , sure , but a human face should have more emotions ...

*honest opinion - constructive criticism*

I don't see why not; even if you find that you like something better down the road, it's all practice...which can only help you grow as an artist. :)

I think it certainly has potential. Just remember, it takes time and patience.

Poll!

I voted the AWESOME one xD Because the more I look at it, the more real it seems.

Like a girl, with a slight smile on her face, her hair tousled in the wind, but her eyes sad, like she's watching her brother drive off in the back of an army van.

yeah, i still have to work on the expressions, but this was the how-to-draw-a-manga-face part, so it wasn't about expressions, just about how to draw a head ;)

oh and angélo, you're a good critic :mario:

I guess ultimately, it's up to you.

Personally, I would be wary. Manga artists use real life things to develop a style, and you can get in trouble trying to make a style out of a style.

I personally found it easier to start by drawing manga style, as it's more stylized. But in order to develop as an artist, you have to be able to draw things more realistically, then simplify.

Anyway, good luck in your artistic endeavors :)

You should.

So much better than mine when I started drawing Manga/Anime.

Tip: Just for practice - choose a few Mangas and just sit down and copy some pics. Like I said just as practice. That way you get used to different styles AND the good old basics withaout having to think what you should draw.

Personally when I want to practice I'm never sure what I want to draw so this helps a lot.

If you have an Idea then draw that but don't force yourself to think something up :>

OMG! That is such an amazing drawing! Brings me back to my Manga days. I used to LOVE drawing Chibi figures, because of their over-exaggerated emotions and body proportions; although I was much better at drawing detailed manga. If you ever need any ideas, I can upload some of my old work that I have laying around somewhere. :) Keep at it! Looks awesome!!

Yeah I know its been awhile since anyone has posted to this. And yeah I know I am gonna say basically the same thing but its still true. All you gotta do is practice. Doing the same thing over and over will stamp it in your brain and with a little creative thinking you can use that basic knowledge to create something completely original. PRACTICE! AND YOU CAN DO IT!

Your drawing is really good! Especially because you said it's one of your first manga drawings. I definitely think you should pursue your talent. :)

Your art is lovely, keep working hard to achieve your dreams. ♥

Here's some advice on making a style. Well first, you gotta find what artists inspire you then try combine their styles together and you'll get your own.

I completely agree with this. It may sound like a pain and that it would take too much time/work, but many serious artists will tell you that no matter what style you plan on drawing in, whether you want semi-realism or manga or something more cartoony, it is best to start off learning how to draw real anatomy. *gasp* "But anatomy is so boring!" Yes, it can be a bit tedious but in the end you'll have better knowledge about the way the human body works and moves so that your pictures won't have that 'slightly off' dead-eyed look to them. Just a suggestion but I do say you should continue on with art if you like it. Your drawing is quite nice. :)
