hrtbrk
Neopets released a statement today saying they plan to allow users to not only log into their account but also register an account via their Facebook credentials. The function will fully launch in a couple of weeks, but they will be doing some testing in the upcoming days - so if you see it - feel free to test! Update! - We're going to be adding a new Facebook Connect functionality to the site in the next couple weeks. It's completely optional, but it will allow you to use your Facebook credentials to register/log in, if you're interested. We'll be testing the features for the next couple of days, so the buttons will only appear to a limited number of people. If you see it, don't panic! You can try it out if you like; if not, no worries. :) To find out more about Facebook Connect, please check out the FAQs. Some tidbits from the FAQ: - You can only connect one account to one Facebook profile; side accounts cannot be linked. - You can disconnect and/or change an account at any time. - Your existing password and login will not change. - If you forgot your Neopets login, but your account is linked to Facebook, you can still log in via Facebook Connect. - Logging in will not post anything on your Facebook wall or timeline. - Neopets players will not be able to tell if you logged in via Facebook Connect or the regular login system. - No personal information will be shared on Neopets! Piticent
this is great! So basically, no information is shared between fb/neopets, the logon info will just be linked? So nobody on fb will tell that I'm using neopets?
xSummer
so here's my point. they don't allow you to talk about facebook because it will cause freezing or warnings, yet they have all these facebook things.
redfire77
umm... I'm confused. why do we need this? what's the benefit of logging in w/ facebook and not with out normal neopets credentials? XD
LoveBunny
I thought that we weren't allowed to talk about facebook on neopets? Why are they connecting it now?
hrtbrk
this is great! So basically, no information is shared between fb/neopets, the logon info will just be linked? So nobody on fb will tell that I'm using neopets? Yes, for now. The FAQ states that they may add a "share" feature to give you the option to post high scores or other achievements on your wall - but they will all be completed at your own request. There will be nothing automatic. so here's my point. they don't allow you to talk about facebook because it will cause freezing or warnings, yet they have all these facebook things. I thought that we weren't allowed to talk about facebook on neopets? Why are they connecting it now? The FAQ says you are allowed to talk about Facebook on the boards as long as it pertains to the Neopes Facebook page. This has been put in place for a while now. umm... I'm confused. why do we need this? what's the benefit of logging in w/ facebook and not with out normal neopets credentials? XD It's just another security feature. I don't know for sure, I am just assuming, but I assume it will be more difficult for CGers to take your neopets cookie if you're looking in via Facebook instead of Neopets itself. Maybe someone could come in an confirm/deny that...
Lady Lyuba
I was pretty much thinking "Ohhhhhh nooooooooo, not thaaaaaaaaaaaaat!" but if this aims to be a security feature, it might seem like a good idea. I'm still nt doing it though, I don't want to risk my account, even though everybody's accounts are always at risk from CGers.
Sweetdang
Dumb question: Will the CGers be able to grab your FACEBOOK information? I don't take to the idea of letting Neopets know everything about me, from my name to my age to my face and my life.
Ruka
I do have to agree with Sweetdang. Logging in to Neopets through Facebook doesn't make me the least bit safe at all. :/ I find it... awkward. :/
MyNamesLindsey
Is anyone else wondering WHY this is happening? Again, I go on Neopets so I don't have to deal with facebook. Also, if they aren't going to actually link anything, why do it?
Jobber
I agree. I am not seeing the point in this if anything I feel like this is Christmas for the CG'ers cause now they get two account infos for the price of one hack. Has Neopets released why they are agreeing to this merge?
Leila
I'm on the "this sounds a bit terrifying" side. I'm not too keen on losing my FB/email if my Neopets account gets CGed. The only possible upside would be if you could link side accounts, thereby proving which accounts are yours, which would make certain perks I've been hoping for more doable from TNT's point of view (ie, able to send NC items between JUST YOUR accounts without gift boxes). But looks like that still isn't happening. :P
Lady Lyuba
I think this is a stupid idea, period. What's worse is they keep logging you out, and for those of us who have it happen too frequently, it's old. Real old. :I TNT is installing something they shouldn't install, making a "christmas for CGers", as Leila said, and giving us all a heart attack by logging us out yesterday AND today. Who knows how often they'll do this, will Neopets log us out every day from now on? Really, this is a stupid idea, TNT. I hate this for several reasons. This is destroying account safety. This is something TNT would normally be against, what the Meepits are they thinking!? Really TNT....this is the stupidest thing I have ever seen you done. Son, I am disappoint. Sweetdang
OMG SON I AM DISAPPOINT They log you out, you log back in. No biggie. It just would be nice if they put up a banner every time they do that so we don't get heart attacks. :P
Lady Lyuba
OMG SON I AM DISAPPOINT They log you out, you log back in. No biggie. Please understand that being logged out of anything is scary to me, not just an inconvenience. I get logged out and am scared of logging back in because I'm scared that it won't accept the correct password or that it's been compromised and my account will be gone forever. Yuika
Nonono. Facebook does not need to know that I still play Neopets... LOL. I am so tired of Facebook stalking every website I visit. >_>
