Russ
I'm not going to go into a lot of detail about this, because if I even started to try to get into my feelings on what happened to this kid, I'd go into a crazy long string of expletives and inappropriate desires I have regarding what should be done to the people who killed him. Anyways. There was a fourteen year old gay boy named Jamey Rodemeyer. He had endured a lot of bullying due to his sexual orientation. Earlier this year he did the "It Gets Better" project (the link to his video is at the bottom of this post), but unfortunately for him it didn't. He took his life about a week ago. This is already a horribly tragic story on his own because he seems to be an adorable and incredibly nice kid, but it gets a lot worse. When I first read about it my initial thought was "The people who bullied him will have to live with that for the rest of their lives and I hope they never, ever forget it or stop feeling guilty". But guess what? Even though they bullied a fellow student to the point of death, they not only feel no guilt but still find it absolutely hilarious to make fun of him. At a recent school dance, Jamey's favorite Lady Gaga song started playing. The bullies decided that the best way to show their feelings about the fact that they took a fellow student's life would be to - wait for it - chant in front of his sister about how he is better off dead and deserved it. I'm just so incredibly disgusted by.. All of this. Everything about this is a disgusting story and I can't even go into detail on my feelings about it because, like I said, I'd say a lot of inappropriate stuff. is a link to Jamey's "It Gets Better" video. It contains one homophobic slur but I really don't think that the link should be removed or anything given the context of this.
Lady Lyuba
That is horrible, I do agree, and feel the same way toward those bullies who did that. This unfortunately happens all the time, something that really shouldn't. Teens are most vulnerable to bullying, and many teens commit suicide from bullies. No matter what the cause. People raise awareness of bullying and victims, and my only wish is for it to get better no matter what the victim is being bullied for. behati
I literally *just* saw his "it gets better" video, there's not much of a homophobic slur from other people - he was just explaining what people bullied him with. He does seem like a really nice kid, I hope the little guy will watch over those who are in the same position as he was and give them the strength to ignore everything that's so messed up. I hate homophobes. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I do think there is something messed up about people who are homophobes. It's like saying you got a problem with someone being black or white. Well guess what? It's straight people who are producing gay kids, if there's a big problem with that they should take it up on themselves and not on the child. If it's anyone's fault it's the homophobes. Welcome Back Apathy
Thanks for posting this, Russ--I hadn't actually heard about this one. It is absolutely infuriating that they are celebrating the fact that they successfully got rid of a gay guy. I notice that it says nothing in the article about punishment for the bullies, just that there will be a review of practices regarding bullying. No, guys. It starts NOW. You need to address the problem NOW. They shouted hate speech and harassed a girl for being related to a guy whose death they caused. That behavior according to ANY school handbook is worthy of a suspension at least.
Emily
That is completely disgusting. If these kids are so thoughtless and mean now, Imagine what they're going to be like when they're older. These kinds of stories seem to be cropping up more and more and it's truly heartbreaking. My best friend is gay. He's the kindest, funniest most amazing person I've ever known. Any time I hear anyone expressing anything remotely homophobic, I always call them out on it. I am very lucky to come from a smaller community where, especially in highschool, a person's sexuality was rarely, if ever questioned. We had numerous gay/lesbian/bi couples at our school and they were some of the most involved, charismatic and beloved friends to everybody, not because of their sexuality, but because they were just awesome people. Why is it such a big deal, especially for gay males? I will never understand why some people think it's something to be looked down upon. R.I.P Jamey, and, if any good can come of this, it will be to raise more awareness so others don't share your fate
Sweetdang
They absolutely disgust me. You cause a boy to take his own life, and then when something that could remind his sister of him comes up, you twist that away from her and instead mock her and her brother, a dead boy because of them? Because he was gay. Real mature guys. Reeeeeal mature. Also very, very human! I mean, who in the world, after causing the death of a 14 year old, wouldn't take the chance to scoff in his sister's face? Who wouldn't, you know, be proud of the fact that while they condemned a boy for his sexuality, they were being inhumane, disgusting, and sick? I mean, come on. You guys are so human, and so kind and caring, you should give yourselves a pat on the back before THE WORLD COMES AND FINISHES YOU OFF. But of course, there's nothing wrong with what you did. After all, killing off an innocent human being, is pardonable, because it's exactly what a beast and animal would do. You should be proud of yourselves. April
That is terrible. I feel so bad for the boy but the sister? That's terrible. Hearing a loved one's favourite song that I have lost is lifting for me but to have someone throw it in your face would be devestating. That poor girl. That poor family. I can't say on here what I wish to do to those bullies. :grrr:
Sakabato
Poor Jamey, not only he was bullied to death for being gay, but the bullies also said that he was better off dead and even deserved to die in front of his sister! Situations like this is why I never understood homophobes.

Situations like this is why I never understood homophobes. Situations like this is why I never understand the need to cut someone else down to make yourself feel better, period. I don't understand bullies. Sure we all hear how they are all insecure and may have issues themselves... But I still don't believe there is an excuse for this. :sad01_anim:
Russ
I can understand the whole homophobic bullying part. It's absolutely disgusting and unforgivable and they deserve tons of bad things to happen to them for it, don't get me wrong, I just mean that I understand that that exists and that it's unfortunately not too uncommon for people to use that as a target. But STILL doing so after you've taken his life? That's just disgusting, I can't believe teenagers could be that awful
hrtbrk
I heard three of the bullies are being charged with hate crimes.
-Ryan
I'm at a loss for words about this. I can beleive kids can bully a gay kid, cause unfortunatley thats what a lot of teenagers do but... I can't beleive any human could be so... I can't even think of a word for it, but I just can't beleive anyone could be like that. And to the sister too... Think about what she had on her mind with her brother commiting suicide. I'm ashamed that people like that exist.
Welcome Back Apathy
I heard three of the bullies are being charged with hate crimes. Glad to hear it. The only thing I saw in the article I read was that the school made a statement saying they were going to "re-examine their practices regarding bullying". It sounded to me like they were putting off any actual punishment and merely looking at their own systems, which ticked me off because NOW is the time to act. So I hope it's true that the bullies are being punished--and harshly.
Sweetdang
And harshly, alright. I'm glad. They deserve to spend some time, ALONE. Thinking of what they did, instead of throwing it into someone else's face.
Russ
I doubt any of them would have done it on their own either. But it just takes the first bully calling him a homophobic slur, then all the others do it and it escalates and escalates and soon they all feel comfortable with making jokes about him after his death
