Looking at all the ones where nothing is in the right place, I'm taking out the spots where letters don't work: Biology (0,4,3) Logical (0,4,3) Cologne (0,2,5) Bigelow (0,4,3) Albinos (0,6,1) Abolish (0,6,1) _ A A A A _ A _ _ _ _ _ L _ _ _ _ B B B B I _ I _ _ I I O _ _ _ _ _ O S S S S S _ _ So at this point, we know that L is the penultimate letter, so I'll take that spot out for everything else. _ _ _ _ _ L _ _ A A A A _ A _ _ _ B B _ B I _ I _ _ _ I O _ _ _ _ _ O S S S S S _ _ So now I move on to looking at the other two words left: Learning (1,2,5) <--It's an eight letter word, so it's a little awkward. But I'm looking at it as well as I can. Since I know where L is, the L can't be the correct letter. If the I were the correct one, it would either be the third to last or the sixth letter, depending on how you said that one of them was correct. Either way, all those spots are gone, so no matter how you look at it, the I can't be right. That means the A has to be the right one. So the A is correct--and it's the third letter. That means that the only spots open for I now are the first letter and the last letter. Same with the letter O, so it either starts with an O and ends with an I, or the other way around. That means the first letter can't be S. Science (1,1,5) ...But according to this, the first letter has to be S, since the I is definitely not the third slot. EDIT: I think I've figured it out...it's STABILO, right? I've never heard of it; I just did some thorough research and discovered it's not even distributed within 3,000 miles of me. :-/ It's really hard to solve one of these things when someone uses something that's not a real word.
