We're sorry about the late report. There was a riot near our reporting station, and things got a little hairy. Fortunately, Link is a master mechanic, and he managed to get our equipment fixed in time to broadcast this.

Hello to you all! This is AA bringing you TDN's (rather late, thanks to some over-enthusiastic fans) coverage of the Altador Cup playoffs, which concluded with the results being announced much later than expected (apparently due to similar over-enthusiastic fan issues at the score counting office).

Anyway, we're well into the final matches now, and Teams Altador and Moltara are keeping the bottom bracket scorching hot. This might be called the 'consolation bracket', but make no mistake, both teams are playing at the top of their game for every last scrap of glory they can get.

<img src="https://images.neopets.com/altador/altadorcup/teams/2010/moltara_2.gif" style="float:left;margin:5px;">"Heh, well, you've gotta get rolling sometime." remarked Tulah Kisner of the Moltaran Magmas during the half-time break. "I'm not just talking tough. There is absolutely no way anyone on this team is going to just sit there and let us slide into last place. No way."

And the Magmas most certainly went beyond talk, edging ahead of Team Altador in Slushie Slinger right off the bat, and fighting hard to keep every other game drawn for the first day of the match. Altador sprang back on day two, shaking up the match a little with wins in Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown, while leaving Make Some Noise to the Moltarans and Slushie Slinger drawn. This match-up won't be decided until the Cup finally draws to a close, so for now the battle still rages as fiercely as ever.

Moving on to group four, the Kikos had a disappointing start to their finals campaign, losing everything but Slushie Slinger to Mystery Island on both days of the match. Team Faerieland fared even worse when they went up against the Brightvale Wizards, only barely managing to hold Shootout Showdown at a draw for a day, before succumbing to a clean sweep on the second. It's now the Wizards and the Mystery Island Natives that are battling it out for thirteenth place: fleeting glimmers of fantastic across-the-board play versus occasional bursts of pure Yooyuball brilliance. A low-tier match it may be, but it's definitely one to watch. Faerieland versus Kiko Lake is not to be ignored either. Both teams are spirited, extremely determined, and not to be underestimated, regardless of their underdog status.

In tier three, both Terror Mountain and the Tyrannian Fossils (historically known for their excellent performance in the side games) showed an intriguing change of character, turning their focus to Yooyuball and making off with impressive double-day victories in the staple sport over the Haunted Woods and Shenkuu respectively. Both of the T teams had much poorer Yooyuball records than their opponents (the Haunted Woods stands at a formidable 21-7-8), but they still managed to shrug off the analysts and pull through, all while nevertheless keeping up the side game pace. Shenkuu did manage to outdo the Fossils in Make Some Noise on both days of the match (we're talking Tyrannia here - that's quite a feat), but they were overwhelmed in the remaining games. The Haunted Woods, meanwhile, faltered after nabbing a Make Some Noise win and Slushie Slinger draw on the first day, leaving the Terror Mountain Chillers with two draws and their usual Shootout Showdown win on the side game front. The Chillers and the Fossils are now facing off for ninth place, while the Haunted Woods Zombies and the Shenkuu Ninjas eye each other up for eleventh.

It was bleeding edge technology versus unabashed buccaneers in the battle for one half of the second bracket, with Teams Virtupets and Krawk Island crossing guards, blades, and who-knows-what-else in one of the most closely fought matches in the playoffs. The Pirates maintained a distinct lead in the side games, winning Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise on both days, despite Virtupets demonstrating their superiority in Shootout Showdown. In fact, it looked like Krawk Island might have the lead overall when the first day's Yooyuballing ended flush-even. Virtupets rebounded quickly however, with Keetra Deile leading her squad to victory and tipping the match in the Robots' favour.

'Close' definitely isn't a word you'd use to describe the other tier two match for round one - Team Maraqua took the field by storm, crushing Meridell's opposition in Yooyuball, Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise on both days of the match. Meridell fought back with wins in Shootout Showdown, but that didn't do a whole lot to change the overall tide of the battle.

<img src="https://images.neopets.com/altador/altadorcup/teams/2008/meridell_3.gif" style="float:left;margin:5px;"><img src="https://images.neopets.com/altador/altadorcup/head_shots/maraqua_1.gif" style="float:right;margin:5px;">"Well," acknowledged 'Wizard' Windelle, Team Meridell's captain, "now we all know why the Maraquans call themselves WAM! Well played Maraqua!"

It looks like fifth place will be going to either Team Virtupets or the Maraquan Mermaids, while Meridell and Krawk Island set their sights on seventh.

Up in the top tier, the Darigan Citadel and Team Lost Desert brought out their big guns, with the two powerhouses unleashing their full arsenal of well-honed playing styles and tricky manoeuvres on each other in some of the most ferocious Yooyuball play in Altador Cup history. The side games were fairly well balanced, with the Citadel leading in the first day and the Lost Desert hitting back on the second, so it was the Desert Marauders' unfailing Yooyuball play that earned them a win, a draw, and the match overall.

Kreludor and Roo Island were a little less aggressive in their Yooyuball tactics, but that didn't dampen the excitement in the least. Both teams dodged and danced around each other with innovative arrays of unpredictable ploys, both offensive and defensive, in what will probably be remembered as the most creative match of the season. In fact, the teams were so creative that neither was able to obtain a clear Yooyuball advantage over the other. Even the side games on the second day of the match were drawn overall, so when push came to shove, it was a single, seemingly minor Slushie Slinger victory early in the match that nudged Kreludor ahead in the final tally.

So, at least for this year, it seems that the Roos and Darigan Citadel will have to settle for a possible spot on the top-three podium, while Kreludor and the Lost Desert close in on the ever-coveted first place.

Well, I've kept you here long enough. Good luck, play well, and may the best team win! This is AA, reporting from Altador, signing off.</p>

You all know it. Moltara is going to fight hard to get into 17th place. We DO NOT want to end up in last.

It's going to be an intense fight to the finish!

And congrats to Lost Desert and Kreludor. Like in previous years, a new team will take home the cup! LD, I'm counting on you to win this year, my old team. YOU CAN DO IT!!

Good luck to all teams

(and happy Independence Day to all)

Man. Moltara and Altador. If the home team ever got last place in the game they created well then looks like THERE WILL BE NO HONOR. EVER.

Anyways, man, I completely didn't expect Tyrannia and Terror Mountain to win. I wonder how Evrem Guilako/Elbin Kroe feel about this.

Go Maraqua! Go Elon! My favorite captain versus my least favorite team captain. I kinda wanted to see Krawk Island win though. Pirates vs. Maraquans= Curse of Maraqua nostalgia time.

Krawk Island vs. Meridell is still interesting though. I don't care who wins, I love both teams. :B

Well, Kreludor's finally made it to the top two, about time. Still I'm really rooting for Lost Desert to win~ And I guess it seems like it. I was originally in LD in my first year~ c:

Yaaay Maraqua won! :woot: I really expected us to get beat down the second day by Meridell, but we finished strong! Time to go show Virtupets, that we're no joke!

I have to say, every since the beginning of this AC, everything has been unpredictable. I'm proud of every team that has definitely worked hard this year. I would have been bored this year if things were always the same, but every team showed something that they were good at. (:

But the team I'm the most proud of is none other than RI. Last year we were in ninth place and now we are fighting for third place. I have to say that that is definitely something to pat your back for.

Anyways, let the best teams win!

Go Rooligans! (:

Woo! Go Lost Desert! We scraped past Darigan Citadel for a shot at the top spot! And I think we can make it, too. Though you'll have to do it without me, as my only access to the internet is mum's phone, and I can't possibly play YYB on this. :( So play hard for me, okay Marauders? :D
