Our sincerest apologies for today's late report. We attempted to switch to physical deliveries to get around the broadcast problems we were having, and well, it seems it's not called snail mail for nothing!

Hey everybody! This is AA with the news for the day again, and my oh my, this year's shockers just aren't letting up are they? Yesterday was a day full of spectacular play all over the leaderboard, and many a team came away pleasantly (or unpleasantly) surprised yet again. Bewildered analysts are now quite a common sight in the stands, although fortunately the angry mobs seem to have died down a bit.

Let's start with the Kiko Lakers, who were treated to a spicy first taste of Team Moltara playing in excellent form. The Moltarans, ridiculed by many for suffering defeat after defeat despite high initial expectations, steamed to victory in Make Some Noise, and blazed a trail across Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown, matching Kiko Lake two for two. The Kikos counterbalanced by winning Slushie Slinger, leaving the match an overall draw - Moltara's first in the Altador Cup's history. Now, many analysts have remarked that drawing even with Kiko Lake is not a particularly impressive feat, but whatever your opinions, the fact remains that the Kikos are a force to be reckoned with in their tier, and even the tournament's powerhouses watch their backs when facing them (the consequences of failing to do so have been demonstrated clearly in the past), so Moltara's hard work has really paid off this time.

Breaking from his usual routine, Kiko Lake team captain "Poke" Cellers took the time to meet with Aldric Beign, captain of the Magmas, and congratulated his team on their excellent match. It was a fairly amicable meeting as far as rival team captains go, and at one point Aldric jokingly remarked that Cellers was the one and only player he had met in the tournament who was game enough to shake hands with him. It just goes to show that sportsmanship in the Altador Cup isn't dead just yet.

Team Faerieland also managed a striking upset against fifth-ranked Roo Island, taking a win in Slushie Slinger despite their losses in the other games. The Faeries are no powerhouse this year, but they've definitely improved, and they have a good chance of at least ranking high in group four come the finals. The Roos, meanwhile, aren't giving up on a tier one spot any time soon.

The Brightvale Wizards didn't do quite as well as expected against Altador. They still took the match with Yooyuball and Slushie Slinger, but the host team managed a draw in Shootout Showdown, and Altador's fans were cheering the loudest when it came to Make Some Noise.

It would hardly be appropriate to ignore Team Tyrannia's intense game against Virtupets. The Fossils genuinely impressed everyone with a draw in Yooyuball, a game which the Robots have been far, far better at this year. However, that feat seems to have come at the cost of the Tyrannians' usual side gaming onslaught, and Virtupets slipped away with an overall victory after they won Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown.

The Shenkuu Ninjas grabbed a solid win in their match against Terror Mountain, claiming Yooyuball and matching the Chillers in their slushie slinging efforts. However, the Chillers upheld their usual side game dominance by taking Make Some Noise and (of course) Shootout Showdown. Many Shenkuu fans are disappointed, having expected a better performance against a team that shouldn't have been difficult for a powerhouse to handle, but as the sages of Shenkuu say, "In those who have the spirit of a champion, disappointment breeds true motivation."

All signs pointed to a potential Yooyuball victory for Mystery Island against the Haunted Woods yesterday, but as happens all too often, the Natives let their guard down, and Krell Vitor's squad exploited the resulting openings ruthlessly. Mystery Island's characteristically lacklustre side gaming capacity left them unable to counter the Zombies elsewhere on the board, and they were only able to fight back with a single victory in Make Some Noise. A disappointing result for sure, but the Natives have always been an inconsistent squad, and with their inevitable lows come plenty of exhilarating highs - we can be pretty sure this team still has plenty of upsets up its sleeves. The Haunted Woods, meanwhile, seems well on its way to joining the rest of the Cup's ex-champions in their battle to reach the top of the leaderboard.

Speaking of ex-champions, we saw another two of those facing off yesterday. Swords, spears, cutlasses, and various other sharp objects clashed as the Krawk Island Pirates tried their hardest to one-up the Darigan Citadel and prove they still have what it takes to make the top of the podium. The Pirates came away with some very convincing proof: an unprecedented victory in Yooyuball. The Citadel's supporters rallied just in time to take Slushie Slinger, win Make Some Noise, and draw in Shootout Showdown, but it was too late to change the balance of the match.

The Maraquan Mermaids were back in what they probably hope will be their default form from here on out: Piranha Mode. Meridell's Knights were washed away in Yooyuball, although they held the fort when it came to Slushie Slinger and Shootout Showdown. Meridell's supporters also managed to drown out the cries of the Maraquan sirens, roaring their way to a noise making victory.

And what do the analysts have to say about this? Well, it seems they're all a bit busy reviewing their predictions for group one right now, so we'll get back to them another time.

The day's final match-up saw yet another astounding outcome: Kreludor, in all their assassin team glory (or lack of it, if you see what I'm getting at) achieved a near sweep of the Lost Desert Marauders. Leera Heggle and his hard set squad simply couldn't keep up with Derlyn Fonnet's confounding tactics on the Yooyuball front (or in the penalty shootouts), and it seems that Kreludor's supporters were so excited that they couldn't help but take the win in Make Some Noise. The Lost Desert drew even in Slushie Slinger, but all in all it was a major loss for the Marauders, knocking them down to second place behind the Moons.

Things aren't going to be calming down one bit today: there are plenty of fairly well balanced matches to keep an eye on (like the Haunted Woods versus Krawk Island and Maraqua versus Shenkuu), as well as a few opportunities for underdogs to pull off an upset (Roo Island versus Terror Mountain for example). I won't get into the details in this report however, as I'm sure you're all itching to get out there and play for your teams!

So, best of luck! This is AA, reporting for The Daily Neopets, signing off.

I think what happened is overcofedence. We cannot expect to win all the time, so we must work for it no matter what. Still, i am still want LD to win, but we must either revenge the teams we beat or counterattack their revenge to stop it, so we can most possibly win maybe. LD!!!!!!!

Yayyy, our first tie! :laughingsmiley:

Now, you're all gonna see a win for us sooner or later!

P.S. Why would anyone be afraid to shake hands with Aldric? I mean, he IS wearing a glove.

I personally want to blame it on the fact that we've have loads of hard teams in a row (and now Mystery Island again, darn it). We can't get worried but neither can we get cocky.

Also, thanks to Krawk Island for beating DC, we needed that.

That's his Yooyuball gear, which he doesn't wear all the time. ;)

20-0, oh the streak is infinitely beautiful

Indeed it is! A truly incredible feat.
