Spritzie Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 I went with Charmander in the FireRed. I haven't decided for the other games, as I move on. But I know I'll be picking Snivy in Black/White. It's evolutions are awesome as well. Quote
jesse_rocket Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 Yeah, my decision to pick Snivy was based on the later evolutions mainly. I bought my husband Pokemon Platinum, which was his first ever Pokemon game, and he chose Piplup, and then upon seeing what its evolutions were like, gave it an everstone. Iwaslike "um....that's....not especially a good idea" and he was all "I DON'T CARE, PIPLUP IS CUTE AND THE OTHERS ARE NOT!!!111" and I facepalmed. Quote
The Score in Blue Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 Piplup IS cute, and kawaii! The possibility of being approached by random trainers is a little unnerving though. Quote
Anime Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 *giggles* Your first statement is redundant. xD It's not that bad... I've had a person ask to battle while I was doing laundry at my dorm once, and just the other day I was sitting outside Japanese as some of my friends played Pokemon games and a random guy walked by and started talking to us. It was kind of awesome. Quote
Quark Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 TDN: I just want to tell you that this is partially your fault. Yes, you. All of you. I got a DS for my birthday this summer, finally, and bought Pokemon Diamond. Fun ensued. Lots and lots of fun. I visited my best friends in Delaware and we had a nostalgia fit while going through my Pokedex together and they decided to bust out their old Pokemon games with me. Sadly, on all of their old Gameboy games, the games were wiped clean. So we spent many a day playing them all over again and losing our minds. More fun ensued. So much fun. And so much geekery. Now, only a few months later, I have played and beat Diamond, SoulSilver and good old Blue in a mad dash. My Halloween was Pokemon themed and I regret nothing. This is probably a new plateau of geekery for me and all because you suggested I play it! :P (Plus: it's Pokemon profile picture month on Facebook.) Quote
CAV of Gang Green Posted December 5, 2010 Author Posted December 5, 2010 You're very welcome Quark. Now, did I tell you about Call of Duty? It's really fun and addicting. You should try it ou-*shot* Quote
Quark Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Noooo, I don't need any more games to be addicted to! :P I procrastinate enough as it is! Also: You'd be surprised how many people in college play Pokemon. It's strange. Childhood nostalgia has finally caught up to everyone it seems. Could also be that I go to a very geeky school. (We have Magic the Gathering tournaments in the student center. I think it's surpassed lacrosse as the school sport.) Quote
flyingeevee Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Pokemon Profile Picture month? I've BEEN a pokemon way before this haha xD Quote
Anime Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 This Awkward Zombie comic shows the Pokemon and college thing. It's universal. Or at least national. xD Quote
flyingeevee Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 This Awkward Zombie comic shows the Pokemon and college thing. It's universal. Or at least national. xD Oh wow, that depicts me so well! xD Except no one had the nerve to ask me if I was still playing it since they KNEW I was >=D *proud* Quote
Spritzie Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 I didn't realize originally, what a huge thing Pokemon still was. I always heard a lot about it when I was younger, then I didn't hear much after that. Now I know how big it still is. (And now that I'm playing it, I see why as well.) Quote
Quark Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 This Awkward Zombie comic shows the Pokemon and college thing. It's universal. Or at least national. xD That is most accurate description ever. :P I guess you need something fun and silly after cramming for FINALS. (Which are next week. AUUUUUGH.) Quote

I always heard a lot about it when I was younger, then I didn't hear much after that. Now I know how big it still is. (And now that I'm playing it, I see why as well.) That's because people were talking about the anime, which lost it's charm after a few years. In the gaming world, Pokemon is one of the kings. It's one of the flagship games of the Gameboy and DS. Quote
jesse_rocket Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Yeah the anime became quite horrid, changing all the voices and such, and then the animation style, and ugh. Not to mention the character switches and whatnot. The first couple of seasons were fantastic, and then they just stopped trying :( Quote
CAV of Gang Green Posted December 8, 2010 Author Posted December 8, 2010 Not even that. I'm just sick and tired of Ash and Pikachu. Why not a different character and a different main pokemon for a change? The show died after Master Quest. The last decent movie was Pokemon Heroes. And nowadays the only reason I like that movie is because Latios and Latias are two of my favorite pokemon. Quote

It's one of the flagship games of the Gameboy and DS. Until recently, I didn't even realize there was an anime for it. I didn't here about anything Pokemon for awhile. But I never gave it much thought before. Now that I've started playing it, I pay more attention. That's why I can't wait to get a DS so I can play the newer games. Quote
jesse_rocket Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Not even that. I'm just sick and tired of Ash and Pikachu. Why not a different character and a different main pokemon for a change? Yeah, I never cared for Ash in the first place, he was a do-gooder brat. Pikachu I can deal with, but you're right, after, what is it? 11? 12 years? of watching Ash and Pikachu prance around winning and learning important lessons about learning important lessons but never really learning anything, it's...pretty old. Quote
flyingeevee Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 I loved pokemon since Red/Blue first came out! I was still in grade school when I was playing with my friends outside during recess just battling and trading with each other :laughingsmiley: I sooo can't wait until Black/White comes out! I got tired of the anime after the Johto region...but nothing can stop me from playing the way better games! I even remember watching an episode of Ash fighting Agatha of the elite four and he made Pikachu use Quick Attack against Gengar....of ALL the years of pokemon he did NOT learn a THING D: On another note, while IV breeding, I hatched a Dratini that had Pokerus! So that makes it the second pokemon to appear before me that had it xD Quote

But I never gave it much thought before. Now that I've started playing it, I pay more attention. That's why I can't wait to get a DS so I can play the newer games. Well, the anime started after the trading card game did, which was about 2 years(?) after the first games. Yeah, I never cared for Ash in the first place, he was a do-gooder brat. Pikachu I can deal with, but you're right, after, what is it? 11? 12 years? of watching Ash and Pikachu prance around winning and learning important lessons about learning important lessons, it's...pretty old. Not to mention that he fails to follow the original Pokemon motto "Gotta Catch em All". He only gets about 4 pokemon each season, and lets every other one go free. No wonder they dropped that motto. <_< Pretend Pokemon is real. If you run into a pokemon that is huge and very rare and can actually talk to you (For the most part I'm talking about Lugia), what are you going to do? Help it with it's problem and let it go free? Or are you going to try and catch it? I don't know about you, but I will try to catch it. Quote
jesse_rocket Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 I can see why Ash didn't, though, with regards to Lugia (or any number of the legendaries he's stumbled across in his time) Not for moral reasons, either. If he couldn't handle that Charizard he had, he sure couldn't handle a brain-talking legendary Pokemon caught against its will. :D Silly ineffective boy that he is. Quote

But you know you all cried when Butterfree got released. Childhood ruined. Quote
Anime Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 I'm going to point out that the dub (note: Pokemon was origionally dubbed by 4kids) gave it the motto. Which they dropped pretty quick. The orig never said such a silly thing. Quote
flyingeevee Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Totally laughed out loud at that. But you know you all cried when Butterfree got released. Childhood ruined. Man I did...almost cried too when he almost let Pikachu go! Ash will NEVER be a master v.v the anime needs to show someone brand new and isn't like Ash at all when it comes to failing. I probably still won't watch it but to hear about it would make me happy ^_^ Quote

Quark Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Just had to share this. It gave me a case of the giggles. Quote
