Neopets, are they stealing or making a homage?

Noticed the first one when I was looking for new places to restock. Then I didn't expect the second to be copied too, but just kind of tried checking it out anyway. As a big Digimon fan I instantly recognized Wizardmon's staff.

Lol, that's actually quite funny - I don't know why they've nabbed the ideas, but they must have been impressed with the idea to have nabbed it.

I SO noticed that a long time ago. xD I don't know if they were copying, but I remember they used to have a Digimon sponser game.

Maybe not stealing (well let's exempt Battle Nova) but get inspiration from or mock for SURE. A lot of their clothes & itmes are spoofs or remakes of 'famous' items.

 

Battle Nova was removed because it's almost exactly like this game: Death vs. Monstars

Going by the reeeally old Neo news, the weapons shop didn't open until Feb 8, 2000 (and by then both Digimon had premied in the US). Unfortunately they didn't notify us of new items back them so I can't confirm the release date of either of those items (and thus see which came first based on espisode release). I have, however, noticed that they took user submissions for things back then (wow, that WAS forever ago....). It's entirely possible that a user created them and the then tiny TNT didn't know about it or research it very well. (You won't get many Digimon related hits if you type in "sun shaped staff" now will you?) And since then, I'd venture that no one on either side has noticed this or thought to check it out.

 

These are just too exact to brush off as mock items.

I agree, I do remember reading ages ago that some pets were even user created, so maybe some digimon fan sent it in.

I thought that too. But every detail on these two weapons are the same, except slightly different shading and angle.

 

 

On a side note, could a mod edit up topic to say "they" instead of "the"?

When this was first released, a lot of people said that this was a fairly good copy of an anime character (although I don't recall his name)

I do think that they are copies because it's SO accurate with the original items, like the Neo Laser thingy has two green things on the side, just like the Digimon one. :laughingsmiley: Nice Thread :D

Also, the Red and White Toy Ball used to look EXACTLY like a Poke Ball, but they changed it.
