Tamara
I got into the AG today. My entry is of the baby Jetsam saying "Pwetty!"... Here's what I don't understand, though. I have gotten in 8 times, and I've yet to win anything that is worth over 1mil, yet a lot of other people I know get PBs, PetPets and things worth A LOT. One of my guildies even got a Maraquan PB on her VERY FIRST Art Gallery submission. I have gotten this, in order: Codestone Trumpadon (which I traded for my Lab Map/PetPet Lab) Codestone Codestone Silver Paint Brush (130k) Skunk Paint Brush (500k) Codestone Ten Dubloon Coin Seriously? What kind of pattern is that? Now, I saw on the BC boards this girl who got in for her 2nd time got a Spotted PB, which is worth 900k!! I'm starting to think that my prizes are based on the age of my account. >:(
Cassie
I wouldn't know about the prizes, I've never submitted to the art gallery. Congrats on getting in so many times though and good luck getting better stuff!
Sapphy the Swamp Witch
It's not because of your account age - it's random. For the PG, (which has a similar prizes type to the AG - 1000np and a rare item) I haven't won anything UB yet. (Striped Paint Brush, some kind of Petpet Paint Brush, Faellie) Of course, I've only won three times...xD. Those people may be lucky, but it's just random. You should be happy you've got prizes already! Honestly, isn't a 500k paint brush good enough? I don't see anything you need to complain about, personally. You clearly like drawing - so having your artwork displayed by TNT should be reward enough! Furthermore, think about the people who write for the Neopian Times. All they get is a trophy - they don't get any neopoints or prizes, unless it's in a special issue, which is around once a month I think? They don't complain about how they should get better prizes. Having others see their work is good enough for them (and me, in the PG). You should be grateful. ;) Sorry about such a long rant. :P
Tamara
I'm irked at the fact that my prizes are so terrible, because it's my only means of funds. I'm terrible at games and everything else, so the only why I'm getting money for my Draik Fund is through the AG. I'm not being ungrateful and I'm not complaining. 500k is worth nothing when you can win a Snowickle that sells for 3mil. I mean, seriously, is my luck that horrible? How is it that I keep winning these pathetic prizes when other people who's only won once or twice get items that're worth up to 10mil? There HAS to be something to do with my account age. It would make sense. People with older accounts have the possibility of getting higher leveled items, because it would be unfair for a 3 month old account to get an item worth 10mil. Don't you agree? No offense, Sapphy, I really appreciate your post and all - but I felt very patronized by your comments; like you were scolding me for being upset over something that is very valid. flyingeevee
Well...if it makes you feel any better, my first Art Gallery entry got in when I was around 20-30ish months old? All I got was a codestone as well xD So it's really all about luck =( Everyone has different luck on neopets like multiple FFQs (still waiting for ONE), the people that would play the Fruit Machine and those kind of luck games, or even the random avatar winners (still waiting for Snowager!) Plus I know how you feel Tamara...I'm bad at games myself but I try on all the ones that I can easily get 3k for playing it 3 times everyday, just tried the Stock Market, and mainly restocking at the Igloo Sale place since everything there is sure to give a good to great value on sales. I think it's actually pretty cool that you got something worth 500k =D Plus it's better than nothing fer sure :) I learned that it just takes patience to get our dream goals, plus with all the art you make, you sure to get something really neat in the future, just keep going =D If it helps any, try http://www.neopets.com/~kissmoto <----been using it and it works! ^^ *got 4 mil now after bad ordeal* My advice if it even helps: Just keep doing the things you love and maybe that guide as well and you're sure to get your draik soon ^^ I was saving for a Krawk before I got robbed but I'm forced to do it all again and I'm not quitting until I get her >=D
Sapphy the Swamp Witch
First off, sorry if I was a bit harsh in that first post. I suppose we just have different standards - if that was me, I'd be extremely happy with a 50k item, and to me, a 500k Paint Brush would definitely not be pathetic or nothing, even compared to much more valued prizes. Of course, if that's your main way of earning neopoints, I guess that would be pretty frustrating - I don't really spend a lot of time concentrating on earning money, so...yeah. ;) Anyway, I'm still sure it has nothing to do with account age, because TNT would have to check each and every one, and that would take much more time than awarding random prizes. Sure, some people would get lucky, but it's still...luck.
Tamara
Eevee - I remember your ordeal, and I watched you keep your will and push through it. I think you were really a great source of inspiration in terms of not letting something get you down. I think my problem is, and a lot of people tell me this, but that I allow what other people say get to me too easily. I've had that issue from Neopets to the real world (one of my biggest weaknesses). :U I sent a question into the editorial, but I doubt they'll answer it. It seems they have answered it before. Just wish I could find out where. All in all, I must have terribly rotten luck if I keep getting such terrible prizes. You are a real go-getter! Sapphy - No worries. Earlier I was still pretty steamed about a lot of things (seems like I haven't had such a great day, but some things came up that made me feel better). I was pretty happy when I got the 500k PB and the Trumpadon, but I guess I've been more irritated that more than 50% of the prizes I've won have been uber cheap. The only thing I'm saving for is my Draik + Royal PB. But, thank you! :
Izzy ♥
I kinda agree with Sapphy's first post actually... it sounds like you are complaining, whether you think you are or not :/ I've tried for years to get something into the AG, yet with 86 months on Neo I haven't had anything in at all. Personally I'd be delighted to have something displayed at this point - regardless of the prize. In answer to your question though, I would be very surprised if there is any account-age basis for the prizes. Its completely random for the Caption Contest (which has the same prizepool), and for that someone who comes second can end up with a better prize than the person who came first in the same week. Thats just lucky for some, and unlucky for others.
Midookami
I'm pretty sure I've read an editorial somewhere that says the prizes are completely random. I think the only thing that is affected by account age is the number of random events you get. It's like keyquest prizes... Some people just end up with whole bunches of lap map and paint brushes, while others play again and again and they don't get even one paint brush after 100 of gold keys. Your drawings are great and you'll win something awesome someday, so don't stress too much over it. I have such rotten luck I'm delighted if anything even remotely lucky happens to me. XD (You have no idea how excited I was when I won $5 in lottery, hahaha.)
tempdisplay
I never knew you could get PBs with the Art Gallery. Plus they've never accepted my submissions (maybe one, that I can't find >_>) Anyway, this topic upsets me, you get accepted and get PBs and you're complaining. Although I totally get where you're coming from, only source of income and all. Well if it's any consolation, I speak for many people when I say your artwork TOTALLY PWNS!!! Keep up the GREAT job and don't worry , you'll get that MQ PB soon ;)
linda
Hehehe....EIGHT times? You should be really happy just with that ;) But hmm that is pretty unlucky :/
Kex
Just because things could be worse doesn't mean she has no right to be irritated. I'd be pretty angry too if I got a codestone and another user got a Faerie Paint Brush when we both put forth the same effort(or if I had done better), especially if it's a consistent pattern. It's unfair that equal work isn't equally rewarded. It'd be like if you got a random number of Neopoints when you finished a Flash game, rather than it being the same for everyone. hrtbrk
But it's not equal work or quality, that's why the prizes are randomized. Just gives everyone an equal shot at a 'good' prize.

Ashbash
I can see your frustration. I've never entered and I doubt I ever will, I'm no artist but if that happened to me I'd be a bit annoyed. As for it being your only source of neopoints, maybe try restocking?

I tried restocking with my husband one night (he is a master), and I failed horribly. I stink at everything. xD;;
Tre Le Coco
Well...it does take more than one night to get good at restocking ;D I'm no master of it, but I can still pull a nice bit of profit from time to time :)
hrtbrk
If it's good enough to get into the AG, it should be good enough to get a decent prize. Totally. A codestone hardly seems like a prize when anyone can play one round of KQ and get four of them from redeeming one gold key. lol Heck, I've got three codestones from a silver key before, plus 2K from the game. FutureTXTurkey
I know that for a lot of us just getting into the AG would be prize enough, but for most of us entering the competition is a lark... Like Tamara said it's her main, if not only, source of income, and we have seen how beautiful her art it, she works hard on those The prizes for the competitions are ridiculous some times, and to work so hard and only get a codestone is ridiculously unfair. It's not fair to criticize her, and say she is being ungrateful, she just has a different set of standards based on how often she's gotten in. It's not like she isn't putting in just as much time and effort as re-stockers and key quest players, so why shouldn't she get equal prizes? Like Izzy, you for example would just love to get in, so your upset to see Tamara complain, but it's not Tamara's fault you haven't gotten in it's TNT. Your work is outrageously good, for you to not make it into the AG is a crime, but also for you work to only win a codestone would be a crime too. Not to mention your a veteran player, who is good at a lot of things, so neopoints don't mean as much to you as they do to those who are struggling. Izzy ♥
Waaait Tara, my main loves on Neopets are making graphics and entering the BC... neither of which earn any Neopoints at all xD I only make NP from my stocks thesedays - and even if you're terrible at every game on Neopets (which I don't think is possible everyone can find one or two they can play) then it still doesn't take long to earn 15,000 NP a day to buy your daily stocks. Don't sell until they reach your sellpoint, mine is 60, and you will earn albeit slowly. Restocking, sniping, keyquest, basically anything else, is just "extra" ways of making NP. They're quicker yes... but still I standby the statement that everyone should have a stock portfolio because its such a good earner in the long term!
