ajay
Yesterday, I created a Wocky after having bought a camouflage paint brush for it. I accordingly named it GIYourMom, my own rendition of GIJoe, as I thought it would match the paint job. Moments AFTER I used my 100000 neopoint paint brush, theneopetsteam deleted my pet, did not return my paint brush, and did not offer any type of reimbursement because they said 'Pet names... with profane, sexual, or other inappropriate content are not allowed'. How on earth is GIYourMom any of those things? And to make things worse, I did a Site Search and found a user with the username YOURMOM. How on earth is this fair? I believe this to be complete abuse of power, and the way I think about the site and the staff who run it has been permanently changed. Would you say this is fair? Or would you says its Communism. :grrr:
tempdisplay
your mum is somehow seen as offensive. Like people just say your mum as an imsult and it make no sense. some could say your mum is very nice. but i don't see how the user wasn't blocked. Masaryk
It sucks that TNT did that to you. It would be nice if their name filters would work better, instead of deleting pets afterward. (Also, Communism ≠ Fascism. Please learn the difference.)
celticheavens
Ah it's best not to tread on thin ice =/ There are downsides to name filters but thet are necessary at times... All I can suggest is to send a complaint to tnt explaining your situation and perhaps you might want to bring in the other user in a subtle manner x_x I'm really sorry to hear that you lost your pet and your money =/
caliama
Very sorry to hear... just keep bugging TNT about it. I'm sure they'll do something if you annoy them somehow. =P GL. =)
Deepti M.
I'm sorry to hear that. Honestly, like others said, sometimes people see your mom as an insult. I mean, if you've ever insulted somebody or just joked around with them and they said, "Your mama" it's meant to be an insult.
yishie
aw... that's not nice but well, your mom can be offensive,
Ashbash
That really stinks. I hope you're able to talk to TNT and get something figured out. Good luck!
FutureTXTurkey
"Your mom" may get used as an insult, but it's not "offensive" or "profane." I think that is ridiculous and a very bizarre misinterpretation of the rules. I mean how hard would be it to write a filter that caught that ahead of time. That said, you never know how the filters work or what really went on, so it's not fair to categorically attack TNT for one thing. I think that most of the times TNT does something that seems "really unfair" it's probably an error in there automated system. I mean running a site like Neopets is such a massive undertaking, and they just don't have time to handle each case personally. Keep badgering them about it, but do it rationally and professionally. There's no guarantee you'll get your NP's or PB back, but it couldn't hurt right? No good can come of yelling at them though, so try to remain calm, and maybe you can work it out. hrtbrk
It it justly unfair as far as censoring goes. A few months ago, I was playing Key Quest with a person named PhatAzz(and some numbers). I go to their account after they quit, thinking they were a noob... no... their account was 3 years old. They were frozen a few hours after I reported it. haha
Noog
Ultimately, you should stay away from using the term "your mom" on neopets. Although there also could have been interpretations as for what the "GI" stood for (if someone actually reported you, or if TNT actually found a pet without the filters for once). Izzy ♥
Usernames have slightly different rules to newly created pets - while that username would be deleted NOW, it wouldn't have been when it was created. Its called "grandfathering". They will still delete the name if someone reports it but as that account is inactive I expect its not a huge deal to them as they don't see it so why would anyone else? Also "your mom" has connatations beyond just being an insult... any of you seen American Pie? TNT are just trying to protect all the little kiddies that play the site these days ;) I'm sorry you lost your pet, but I have to assume you knew there was meaning behind the phrase. At least you didn't just spend multiple millions! 100k shouldn't take you long to earn back so perhaps look at it as a lesson in Neo naming rules :(
Hortatory
As mentioned above, "Your Mom" can be taken offensive. "GI" may also be an acronym for something offensive. Sorry to hear about your situation. If you can't get your pet back, I would suggest asking TNT for at least te paintbrush or the money. naalaro
O.o WOw, now thats something i didnt know about. Well it depends, seeing its a social site, people always get offended easily. I suppose TNT would want to prevent that.
blackcatmagic2003
I agree with the others on the "your mom" part, but I think the "GI" part was probably what got their attention. Not GI as in soldier, but maybe as a few other terms I definitely can't say on here. I'm sorry you lost your pet and paintbrush, though :(
ajay
thanks for offering your opinions on the topic everyone. even if i cant have anything done about it, at least i got to vent to someone. i sent in a complaint after it happened and ive been sending them periodically, not really because of the cost, but because of the principle. sure, its only 100k, but like many of you said, had it been millions (and im sure it has happened before), it would have been far worse and gone way beyond just principle. hopefully tnt will take another look at the approval of pet name submissions and revamp the way they go about punishing offenders. Deepti M.
They should at least give you back your PB or NP.
thejoker1986
Wow that sucks that you lost a painted pet. But I am sure TNT saw it as a sexual statement. Maybe you should ask them to give you your pet back and just name it GIMom. The "your" part is probably what they didn't like. :sad01_anim:
Sapphy the Swamp Witch
Aww, I'm sorry. I can see how it could be offensive, but it's really frustrating to lose a painted pet. Good luck getting your paint brush or neopoints back.
Tre Le Coco
Sorry to hear about that, but yeah, you really need to be careful with what you name things or say - it might mean one thing to you but something completely different to another :(
C.A.V.
Very sorry to hear... just keep bugging TNT about it. I'm sure they'll do something if you annoy them somehow. =P GL. =) But what if they froze him/her? Honestly, it's not right that TNT deletes one pets because of the name GIYourMom, and not YourMom. YourMom is alot more noticable. It is wrong no doubt, but I don't think it's communism.
