Strawberri
Hi everyone.. I'm considering collecting the lab ray map and visiting it. But I am worried about it changing my neopets' species. Is it really worth it? What are the advantages? Do you make NP's with it? Thanks for any advice!
Jikuu
The Lab Ray grants an avatar based on a species change, so if you're into collecting avatars, you will want to do this eventually. Of course, if you already have your four perfect pets, you may not want to do this. The Lab Ray is also prized for unique color changes and raising Battledome stats. It is rather expensive, though, around 600K to 800K depending if you collect the pieces yourself or buy the set. You do not make any Neopoints off of it past the measly ~10K granted as a reward for collecting the map.
Ashbash
I've been thinking about doing this recently as well, mainly just for the avatar.

Strawberri
So can you choose which pet goes to the lab ray? (So i could use my 4th pet that i'm not really attached to?) Thanks for helping! Ashbash
So can you choose which pet goes to the lab ray? (So i could use my 4th pet that i'm not really attached to?) Thanks for helping! I'm wondering this as well because I love 3 of my pets and wouldn't want them to change. I'm not really attached to my uni. It used to be a ruki and I changed it to a uni for the avatar. hrtbrk
Yup! You get to choose which pet to zap for that day! Also, I saved at least 200K by buying each piece instead of accepting a lot that was worth 800K. Search the shop wizard like crazy. Who knows what discounted pieces you will come across. Deepti M.
I'm going to buy a Lab Map and a PetPet lab map, before I charge at the Hidden Tower. I think Fyora's scared though. I see her shifty eyes. :P
Tiffany
I personally like the lab ray, but haven't gotten anything super awesome yet. Just been using it to increase the stats for my pets. Plus, you could get an awesome pet where the paint brush could be over a million NP. For example, 800k for the map set vs 3.5 million for the faerie paint brush 8D Yeah! Jenny ^_^
I really wanted a fruit chia but couldn't find any magical chia pops on the trading post. I ended up buying the map for close to the 800k and since then had my chia changed to a bruce. Going into the lab map, for some reason I thought you could just change the type of pet each day and eventually get what you want. It's not really like that though, it's mostly just stats that go up. I think it'll take forever to get a fruit chia, especially with the species change. My opinion is if you aren't going for the avatars, just save up for exactly what you want. I wish I had done that instead of getting the lab map.
Bob_the_Bunny
I believe the lab map is totally worth every neopoint. Unless you have a specific dream pet, the ray will increase stats and get great color/species changes. Today, on my side account, my Eyrie changed into a grey Eyrie and it's petpet got zapped into a Orange Krawk. Now if only zapped Krawks could turn into real Krawks... lazycrazykitten
If you are super attached to your neopet's species I wouldn't suggest this. Although the lab usually increases/decreases your stats it CAN change the species, color, or even the gender of your pet. It's doubtful that you will get something you want quickly. However the lab ray does have it's perks. Like changing your pet marquan!!! It rarely happens, but it can. Think carefully before you buy it, as once your pet is zapped you never know what your going to get.
blackcatmagic2003
I definitely think the lab ray is worth the money you'll spend on it. And if you don't want to zap your own pets, why not adopt one, zap it until it changes color, and then release it for someone else to enjoy? That's what I do, and I always write their names down, so I can keep track of where they are. It's a bunch of fun ;)
Unstream
Yes it's worth it. I got some of my coolest pets through it. If you want to buy them cheap, you can try to snipe some of the unbuyables from the auctions.
Khepera
I spent 1,06 mil one the map pieces, and I think it was totally worth it! If for no other reason, it got me the two avatars :)
Denisa
It depends.I love the fact that you can get a lot of pet changes and stat increases. And money will come with time.
Nemo
Well, I would say this firstly the lab is worth it in the lab run but do not expect what you want. But in the long run, I am so happy that I got it! So far I have gotten some nice zaps such as grey or my uni turning to a cybunny. Plus, the petpet lab can get you some cool petpets that would be too expensive otherwise to buy like meowclaps or kads. You can not really earn any neopoints from it though. Finally, you can receive two pretty snazzy avatars from it. Good luck in choosing!
