Ellie_Penguin
Since the bonus is part of the contest, then I'm afraid you can't answer those. ------------------------------------ Question of the Day Subject: Earth Science Level: Medium Answer: A few sentences if you can 6) What is El Niño and La Niña? --------------------------------------------- BONUS QUESTION (ONLY answer this question if you weren't able to answer the question above) Prize: Toy - What are the layers of Earth's Atmosphere? Provide 1 example of what type of object or event you might find in one of the layers. Xepha, you cannot answer this question nor the bonus. antiaircraft
El Niño (meaning 'The Little Boy' in Spanish) and La Niña ('The Little Girl') are meteorological phenomena that involve uncharacteristic changes in the surface temperature in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, typically lasting for 1-2 years at a time. The changes in temperature result in significant changes to the weather patterns in the southern hemisphere, including more/less frequent thunderstorms, increased/decreased cyclone activity, increased/decreased rainfall (usually as a result of the increased/decreased thunderstorms/cyclones) disrupted ocean currents (which in turn can disturb populations of various sea creatures as more/less nutrient-rich water passes through their habitats), and weaker/stronger trade winds . El Niño is characterized by increased ocean surface temperatures, and La Niña is characterized by decreased ocean surface temperatures, so the effects of La Niña tend to be the opposite of those of El Niño. El Niño and La Niña typically occur at intervals of about 3-6 years, with La Niña following shortly after El Niño, although like most climate-related occurrences they are unpredictable. Various theories have been proposed as to the cause of the phenomena, from an unusually warm spot in the Pacific Ocean to slightly weaker trade winds to weather conditions in the Western Pacific to volcanic eruptions, but it is generally accepted that El Niño and La Niña are the result of combinations of these factors. (I would put some more but I don't have the time >.<) Edit: All right, I have a few minutes so I'll just finish up my answer. Edit #2: I pick the number 19. Izzy ♥
Okay... *tries for the bonus* 1. Troposphere - lowest layer, weather occurs here 2. Stratosphere - contains the ozone layer which absorbs and scatters the ultraviolet radiation 3. Mesosphere - this is the layer where meteors/rock fragments burn up 4. Thermosphere - auroras occur here, also most space shuttle orbits are in this layer 5. Exosphere - very thin, topmost layer where atoms/molecule escape into space Is that the kind of thing you mean lol

Ellie_Penguin
When AA posts his number, I will edit this post with the prize name. --------- Question of the Day Subject: Math Level: Easy-Medium Answer: Just long enough to explain your reasoning. 7) Kevin is 14 inches taller than George. The difference between Kevin and Richard is two inches less than between Richard and George. Kevin at 6'6" is the tallest. How tall are Richard and George? Remember AA you cannot answer this question nor the bonus. Good Luck! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ BONUS QUESTION (ONLY answer this question if you weren't able to answer the question above) Prize: Battledome Item -A mother and father have six sons and each son has one sister. How many people are in that family? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Introducing: TRIVIA This is another contest add-on for those who don't get to answer the Question of the Day NOR the Bonus Question. All you have to do is follow the trivia with something related. I will post something like "fish have fins" and the next person will post a fish trivia. Simple? Well, there's a catch! There are a lot of "fish" trivia out there, but at some point we will be left with none! The last person to post the last related trivia (in this example, fish related trivia) wins the price! Example: Me: Fish have fins Someone: Fish live in the ocean Someone2: (imagine this is the last fish RELATED trivia) Fish get eaten by sharks. Someone 2 gets a prize for being the last person to post a fish related trivia. If you have any questions, feel free to post! I hope you guys like these add-ons. I don't like to leave anyone behind so this should give more people a chance to win a prize! TRIVIA will start once I get some feedback XD. I want to make sure people understand the concept. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Strategos
In response to: 7) Kevin is 14 inches taller than George. The difference between Kevin and Richard is two inches less than between Richard and George. Kevin at 6'6" is the tallest. How tall are Richard and George? K=G+14 K=6'6" 6'6"=G+14 5'4"=G George is 5 feet 4 inches. 6'6"-R=|R-G|-2 Assume R=5'5" 6'6"-5'5"=1'1"= 5'5"-5'4"-2" is false Assume R=6'0" 6'6"-6'=6" 6'-5'4"=8" is true Richard is 6 feet. EDIT: Feet and inches confuse me. You shouldn't try to trick us like that. EDIT 2: 24 looks nice.
Xepha
I can't do math in imperial system =( (Also, Kevin is a giant) I'm passing and not answering any questions today. Maybe the trivia tomorrow if I get ideas.
Izzy ♥
-A mother and father have six sons and each son has one sister. How many people are in that family? I say 9 people... mother, father, six sons and a daughter :)
Eric
Bonus question: -A mother and father have six sons and each son has one sister. How many people are in that family? Mother, Father, Father's sister (the father is a son and therefore has a sister), 6 sons and sister. Each son has ONE sister. There's only one. They can share. My answer is 10.
antiaircraft
So if somebody gets a question right, they cannot answer the next question, the bonus question or the trivia right? The metric system owns the imperial system.

Ellie_Penguin
I like the sound of the Trivia. But if you post something like "Fish have fins", wouldn't it go on for like, forever? Well, that's the idea. You wouldn't be able to tell whether you're the last person to post a trivia. It should make things interesting. Strategos: You are correct! LOL sorry, I have to make things a little more challenging. Pick a number and EDIT your post! Isabel is right. There are 9 people in the family. Mother and Father = 2 Six sons = 6 One sister = 1 They all share the sister. EDIT: All prizes will be sent out tonight!

Izzy ♥
Generally there was a core of 6-8 "sharers", that split the profits/debts. There was around the same number of minor actors who could play the extra, smaller roles and also a lesser number of boys, apprenticed to the older actors. Some famous members of the Lord Chamberlain's Men were: William Shakespeare, William Kempe, George Bryan, Henry Condell and John Heminges.
