torridity
Ever since the NeoBoards have been redone to show the user's active pet, I've heard a lot of talk about the risks involved with having a rare/prized pet as your active pet - random events where your pet can be changed (Boochi zapping it baby, being turned invisible or into a pile of sand, etc.). I, being a somewhat vain person (:P), like to show off my faerie pet. I like that people on the boards can see my pet, but I'm wondering if it's worth the risk of it getting changed by a random event. So, I'm trying to figure out how common of an occurence this whole "changing of the active pet" is. Has anyone here had their active pet changed by a random event? I'd also appreciate your opinion on whether or not you think it's worthwhile to have a rare pet as your active pet :)
Ellie_Penguin
On my second year of playing Neopets, my Grundo was turned baby by Boochi. After that, I have only received the Boochi random event once. It is VERY rare, but if you set your faerie pet to Active, you could get that random event as soon as you go to another page. I would say, don't make it active unless you have the money to pay for a new faerie pb.
Superfly
So wait a second, can boochi (the RE) only change your pet baby, or is it just like a regular zap at the lab ray? -- Like can stats be changed, or a species change?
onime_no_kai
So wait a second, can boochi (the RE) only change your pet baby, or is it just like a regular zap at the lab ray? -- Like can stats be changed, or a species change? No. Boochi, if he successfully "zaps" your pet, will turn it into a baby. It's either that or he misses and nothing happens, he can't change anything else. Anyway, to go back to the original question -- first of all, random events that change your pet drastically like that are VERY rare; I wouldn't worry about it too much. And I've never heard about one that turns your pet into a pile of sand...your *petpet* can be turned into a pile of soot by the lab ray, but that's not "random" nor does it affect your pet. It sounds to me like the people you've heard on the boards are, as usual over there, noobs who don't know what they're talking about and/or jerks with too much time on their hands trying to scare people. o_O That said, I have had a pet (my Hissi) zapped by Boochi once -- fortunately he was only green at the time. I actually kind of liked it and he's currently still a baby, but I would have been really ticked if I'd just painted him some expensive color! So I can understand why you're worried. Here's the thing though -- unless my memory's really bad, he *wasn't* my active pet at the time! And I definitely do remember having the random event that raises one of your pets' levels affect a pet that wasn't active. So if someone knows differently for sure, please correct me; but based on my own experiences I'm almost positive that random events that change your pet, do so *entirely at random* (hence, random events) -- it may or may not be your active pet. Personally, I would say: there's nothing you can do about random events anyway, so don't let it bother you. Go ahead and display your pet with pride. :)
Anime
Boochi and other REs that change pets only effect your active pet. I wouldn't worry about it. I always have Sala as my active pet, and she currently has the most expensive paint job. Just show off your pet. What species is your pet? (You might wanna do something about your lookup- People enjoy seeing your pets!)
torridity
Thanks for the feedback! I do have enough NPs for another Faerie PB... I was planning on getting another faerie pet though. ^_^ One of my neofriends has had their pet turned to sand - I think it has something to do with Coltzan, but I don't know much more than that. She's a Nimmo. :) And I can see your point... I'll probably make my next lookup more inclusive of all the stats.
Ellie_Penguin
Yea, what you can do is show off your faerie pet. Then start saving for another one and if Boochi turns your pet Faerie, then you can use the faerie pb you just bought and then you'll be ahead of the game on saving for another faerie pb. It's VERY rare that Boochi will zap your pet, but you never know XD.
Anime
I think the sand thing had to do with the LD plot. Nothing to worry about with it anymore.
silverhawkgrl
I painted my xwee baby a while ago and had Bochi zap her twice even though she was baby already. It is very rare, but the more I hang around the Charter (premium) board, the more people are getting their pets zapped by him. I still wouldn't be too worried about it, but there is always a very small chance.
Izzy ♥
This didn't happen to me personally but my friend Ashley (livelovelaughalot) has had two of her pets Boochied in the last year or so... the first was her rainbow Wocky, and then her faerie Elephante! She was really annoyed about the Elephate because she'd creaded her specially to be painted faerie. She's now saving up to get another faerie PB to paint it back. I'd actually never heard that these events effect active pets only though. I thought they could randomly affect any one of your pets... guess you learn something new every day lol
torridity
Yeah, my friend's pet turned into sand a while ago so it probably had to do with the Lost Desert plot. That's a relief. :) Hmm. I wonder if it's just a coincidence that people on the premium boards are getting their pets zapped... or do you get more ranodm events as a premium member? Im_B
I wonder, what happens if you fight Boochi in the battledome??? Can he still zap your pet then??
RukarioBomb
Nope. He can't do anything to you in the Battledome. Beat him up.
AMAZING
I would be devastated if my Maraquan Jubjub got zapped baby. However, I use my Lutari as my active pet. It has no baby counterpart so I'm guessing that if I get the event, Boochi will miss. I think there was an editorial question like this and Neo said that they're going to try to make your Active Pet different than your Neoboard Pet. That way, if Boochi zaps your Active Pet, your Neoboard Pet will remain the same and untouched.
