I can't create a new account

A few minutes ago I was trying to create an account (for the very first time) and when I put my email in, it said 'Oops! Please check. An error occured.' and I retried, went to different tabs, etc. It is on the same step and the same thing keeps happening. I don't know what to do. Any suggestions?

According to this topic, it might have something to do with usernames; perhaps the one you're trying to use is unavailable (for reasons that honestly don't make much sense to me, such as it belonged to a recently purged account (although I'm not sure if any accounts have been purged in recent memory), or it's already in use on 'other' Nickelodeon sites - even though Neopets currently doesn't belong to Nickelodeon anymore...).

The only things I can think of, are sending in a ticket, or trying with a different username.
