Are the battledome avatars broken?

Or just the darigan tonu one? I fought against one but never received the avatar, is this a glitch or something else?

Did you win this fight? Just the other day someone had a similar problem with the "Jetsam - Wanna Fight?" avatar, which was solved by actually beating their opponent. Maybe participating in fights with certain pets is no longer enough to get the avvie?

I'm also not entirely sure if they popup when unlocked anymore so they may be a silly question but did you double check to make sure it wasn't added to your list?
