Midtime
Good morning, sports fans! This is Brooke, reporting from the hallway outside the TDN newsroom. It's been quite the round, and we're excited to bring you the results of the last day of the bracket. I'll launch right in with the Alabriss Bracket! In our first match of the bracket, Mystery Island's scores took a sudden, mysterious drop (Matt's not the only one who can spin a pun!), allowing Faerieland to gain some ground in the form of a win in Slushie Slinger. It may not seem like a grand victory, but this match marked the end of a rather epic four-day sweep-streak. Perhaps the coming day of rest will help the Natives get their scores back into their normal range. Snowcapped peaks met scorched sands in our next match. While neither the Chillers or the Mummies have been doing spectacularly this year, it was the Lost Desert's finest who bested Terror Mountain. The games were all close, and the Chillers found Lost Desert's weakness and stole a win in Make Some Noise. This is only Terror Mountain's third win of the bracket; next round may hold more success for them. In the last match of the Alabriss Bracket, Meridell and Krawk Island went head-to-head. Both teams have been doing really well this bracket, and the results show that they were fairly well matched. The scores were close, and each team took two events. Today both teams will enjoy a well-earned day of respite before launching back into the action for the final stretch. Now let's head over to Lydia with the Minitheus Bracket. "Thank you, Brooke. You'd better not be sneaking back into the newsroom. I hear that they haven't found all the falling hazards. Midtime, you be careful too. Knowing Austin, there might be actual explosives stashed somewhere… "Anyway. The Minitheus bracket finishes off this round with a bang. It was the round we'd been looking forward to this season. Overall, it ended up with the Haunted Woods taking first, Virtupets second and Moltara third, which is also how the three stand in the overall results so far. It's becoming clear that these three teams will likely be battling for the three podium spots, and no matter which team takes the top spot, the win will be unprecedented in the history of the Cup. Both the Haunted Woods and Virtupets have already been champions, and Moltara was struggling to stay out of the bottom tier just last year. " Now, to the individual results. The Minitheus bracket saw two sweeps and one near sweep. Tyrannia was able to sweep Altador in a series of one-sided matches. Altador had been struggling this entire season to pull off the same feat they did last year, but it simply wasn't feasible this year. "Kreludor, on the other hand, had been doing well up until this round. However, they, like Altador, were unable to stand up to the three powerhouses in their bracket, and today was no different. The Moons lost on all fronts in their battle against Virtupets yesterday, and can only remain hopeful for the next bracket. "In the last match of the bracket, the Haunted Woods were able to edge out Moltara in a series of narrow matches in Yooyuball, Shootout Showdown and Make Some Noise, but the Magmas drew on their old strengths and were able to come out on top in Slushie Slinger. "I'll pass this to Midtime with the results from the Vaeolus Bracket!" [The Colosseum.] " - something, must be something I'm forgetting - Ah! Thank you, Lydia. The Vaeolus Bracket, not usually the centre of the spotlight, happens this time to be home to a most astonishing upset. I'll get to it straightaway. "If Maraqua were likely to see another sweep this Cup, few people expected it to be today. Kiko Lake have been doing exceptionally well over the course of the Cup, and have lost Yooyuball to only three other teams - and beaten all but three of those in a rematch afterwards. The Mermaids simply could not match their record, and although the Kikos' performance has declined recently, Mermaid fans were for the most part hopeful only for a draw or two. To have won in Yooyuball was beyond expectations; but spectators looked on in amazement as Maraqua went on to sweep their erstwhile rivals across the board, posting scores far beyond the wildest imaginings of analysts. Maraqua supporters are right to be pleased - but is this only a special occurrence, or are the Mermaids set to rise to something approximating their former glory? That is something to find out tomorrow. "The Minions, meanwhile, continue to dominate their bracket. The Wizards, their opponents today, came admirably close to matching their Yooyuball performance; but the Minions got the field under control towards the end of the match, and secured a solid victory for their team; which was then supported by victories in Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise. However, they never did catch up to Brightvale's early lead in the shootouts, and the Wizards, having bested them in one game at least, saved themselves from a sweep this time. "The match between Shenkuu and Roo Island saw a similar outcome - Roo Island won out on the field, in the slushie contest, and in fan support; while the Ninjas, who have met with mixed success in this bracket, slipped past them in Shootout Showdown alone. Roo Island fans celebrate the occasion with a vivacity that is by now familiar to all attendees, and no doubt look with excitement to the match to come. "Now, for the matches to watch - I, er... [The reporter looks confused for a few moments. Then something occurs to him, and he counts on his fingers.] "...I recommend you take a rest, as today is a bye day, and there will in fact be no matches to watch. None at all. The opponents will be nonexistent. Apologies for that. "And with that, thank you very much for watching, viewers! This is Midtime, with all The Daily Neopets news staff, signing off."
