Popular Post Russ Posted August 9, 2013 Popular Post Posted August 9, 2013 While I was on vacation with my dad last week, the topic of homosexuality just kind of came up while we were driving in the car one night, and so with a lot of nervousness I told him I was gay. He reacted totally fine which is basically what I expected, but it's still nice to not have to do it anymore and I'm happy that he reacted the way he did. Now I still have to tell my mom and brother.. but still, that's one more family member down! Duma, siniri, Ali Cat and 16 others 19 Quote
barkie Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 Well Done for coming out. We parents are a fairly understanding and non biased group on a whole and though I have never had to deal with your dad's situation I am glad that you have his support and hope your other family members will also accept your sexuality with the same understanding that we are all our own person . Good Luck and be happy for who you are... Quote
Guest JussttBre Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 Congrats on coming out :) I bet you feel a lot better now that you can be open about it with your dad! Quote
Rebecca~ Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 Congratulations! :D I know that coming out is a hugely stressful thing, and I'm so glad that your dad took it well! I hope that the rest of your family is just as accepting. ^_^ Quote
vyvren Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 Yay, Russ! :D I can only imagine how nervous you must've been, I'm so happy for you that your dad reacted the way he did! :) Quote
LucyL Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 Congrats!!!That's so great. I've been there myself, I know how terrifying it can be. 7 years ago I told my mum and she was fine as I knew she would be...but it still doesn't make it any easier does it? I didn't have the guts to tell my dad as he wasn't the most gay friendly person so my mum told him for me! She's told a lot of people for me actually, till I actually got some courage and started to feel more confident in myself. I've told many people myself now and It feels so much better.... especially when they have a positive reaction, it feels so good. Anyway, babbling...lol. Congrats! :D Quote
iunicornbarf Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 YAY! I'm so glad that your dad is understanding (btw, sorry for just commenting out of the blue, when it's most likely that you don't even know me xD) Quote
sophioski2 Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 I'm so happy for you! It's so nice to hear how people's attitudes are changing, my dad had a difficult time with his parents on this subject but that is going back a few years :) Quote

AJ11 Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Im very happy for you <3 Im sure your family will feel even closer now Quote
hinden Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 Haha, oh dear. You did better than I did. I wound up writing a 3 page letter to my mother and dumping it in the letter box when I left for school camp. She was fine with it, it was just very intimidating. Quote
_snuffles Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Congrats!! I have a good friend whose parents did not react quite as pleasantly. It's been a rough road. I hope the rest of your family reacts as nicely. Quote
