The chance of getting each item is random. If you only like 1 or 2 items from a claw, it may be more worth your NC trying to trade for it, as you'd only have a 30% or so chance of getting something you'd like. However, if you like all or most of the items from a claw, you have a better chance of getting something you want, so it might be more worth buying the claw.
