Habitarium -- some newbie questions

Hey all, I've only just recently started to build up my habitarium (currently level 13) and I have a few newbie questions:

1) One time when I leveled up, I got something like "larger habitarium" as one of the rewards. However, my habitarium only got a small corner of land (like 3 squares) larger. So does the habitarium only get larger in small increments?

2) I started my habitarium way back when it was first released, but then never played it again until recently. I used to have Pinchits, but they all died. Now I only have Mootixes and Larnikins (and of course, the nesters only produce PPPs of the same species). Is there any way to get more Pinchits, or are they gone forever?

3) What happens when you "level up" a building? I have the option of leveling up my houses but I want to know if it's worth it to do so. Does leveling up give more space for PPPs inside, or cause the bars to refill faster, or something else?

4) Same question for the Storage and Nests. What does leveling up do?

5) Is there a way to force PPPs to collect more of a certain resource? I am trying to collect enough wood to build another storage building because I'm out of space for mud and water. But when I drop my PPPs beside the trees, they just walk away and do something else.

Thanks for any help!

1) Yes, it only increases in size by three squares each time.

2) You are give a random P3 nester when all current nesters have died. Cross your fingers and hope for a Pinchit.

3/4) It depends on the building. Nests reduce the time needed to produce an egg. Houses, hospitals, and barracks reduce the time needed for P3s to fully heal/rest and gives more space for P3s. And the storage gets increased capacity for resources: level 1/2/3 can hold a maximum of 2500/3500/4500 of each.

5) Does the tree look blacked/droopy? If so, the resource is damaged and can't be harvested from until a friend repairs it or it regenerates on its own, which takes a few hours.

I see you've already been given some pretty full answers, so I'll just elaborate a bit on #2.

Since you're still levelling up, you can also be given eggs as a prize occasionally for reaching the next level. There's not the greatest chance, but it is also possible you can be given a Pinchit nester egg for a prize.

You've been answered, but I'll add a few tidbits.

1. The habitarium grows in various sizes, it's not always by 3 spaces. It starts small but in the later levels it can grow by a few more spaces at a time.

2. The answers have been given above only two possible ways.
a) Let all your nesters die and you will receive a random nester, just hope it's a pinchit.

b) As you level up you will receive random eggs, just hope it's a pinchit.

Eggs aren't giftable and there's no other way to get a species back.

3 & 4. Leveling up makes the buildings more efficient. Houses increase the bars faster of your p3s and allow more to be stored in one building. Storages will hold more resources and nests will make your eggs incubate faster.

5. Like mentioned above, if they are walking away it's probably because it's either damaged by pests or has been drained of resources. You can't repair them, but friends are able to, so you could try the Habitarium board to ask for people to repair them for you or you can wait 3 hours and it'll fix itself.

TDN has a nice guide for Habitarium, you'll find most of the things I mentioned in there and a few others that may help you along the way

A few additions to what's already been said:

2) When you do finally get a Pinchit nester back, make sure you save some eggs (you can harvest them into your bag to keep them safe from pests). I actually keep at least 2x the number of each type of egg I need to completely repopulate my Habi, in case I can't/don't get to it for a while (that way I can repopulate it completely). {Ex: At level 50, my habi can hold 46 total. I have 3 nesters (1 of each type), 6 Larnikin soldiers, and 36 workers (18 Mootix, 18 Pinchit); I keep one spot empty so that I can see which kind of eggs my P3s have laid, and only save the types I need (ex, I never need Larnikin workers because I like having my soldiers a different species so I can quickly grab them and move them next to the pests; I like having 2 colors of workers to keep track better if they do try to wander from their assigned resource).}

3) You can also upgrade the P3s themselves; they'll harvest faster, stay awake longer, stay healthy longer (but not live longer), hatch eggs faster, kill pests faster, etc. And you only have to do it once for each type; newly hatched P3s will be at the new, improved level.

Upgrading storages might seem pointless since it costs more resources than you can fit in it, but it does let you have a greater capacity if you start running out of space. Plus you gain XP, leveling up more quickly. But I'd upgrade hospitals and nests first, and only upgrade storages if you have a lot of resources and need more storage space. You can store (filled, partially filled, or completely filled) storages in your bag; I have a few pages saved in case they start releasing more levels, so that I'll be able to upgrade the other items as soon as I can.

5) Sometimes they will actually do a different task if it's near the resource. For example, I have storage units and houses tucked behind one of my woods. If they need repair, the workers will repair them instead of harvesting wood. Once they're done repairing, they don't know what to do and just wander off. To combat this, I usually start my soldiers resting before my workers, and then make the soldiers repair while I start assigning the workers to central resources. Once the soldiers have finished repairing, the workers will harvest from the wood.

Also, if your storages are full of that resource, they won't collect any more until you give them some place to put them. If you put the worker between two resources, they'll choose which to harvest and may not choose the one you mean; make sure you put them in a square adjacent (not diagonal) to only a single resource.

Hey everyone, thank you so much! Your answers were really helpful, so these things are making a lot more sense to me now. :laughingsmiley:

I also just got a Pinchit nester as my reward for level 14, so yay--they're no longer extinct!
