We’ve got some interesting results to report today, starting off with the match between Brightvale and Kreludor. Brightvale exceeded all expectations by pulling off two draws in Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown, in spite of the fact that Kreludor has one of the best records so far in the competition. Kreludor came out the overall winners of the match with wins in Yooyuball and Slushie Slinger, and are remaining as favourites to win this year’s tournament. In a less surprising turn, the Darigan Minions swept the Haunted Woods Zombies yesterday. Zombies fans were hoping Haunted Woods might be able to rally around their two wins on the ninth and carry their luck over to the match against the Citadel, but Darigan was a little too much for them to handle. <img src="https://images.neopets.com/altador/altadorcup/2012/team_members/altador_0.gif" alt="Salayne Ritad" style="float:right;margin:5px;"> Slushie Slinger is proving to be Altador’s game yet again this year as they managed a win yesterday against Virtupets. The Suns are 2-2-0 in Slushie Slinger so far in this bracket, and this has kept them afloat thus far. Virtupets bounced back quite fast after being swept by Kreludor in their last match and dominated this second match in four days against Altador. Lydia’s over in the bowels of the Colosseum, presumably looking for caffeine and sugary breakfast pastries. What have you got, Lydia? "Thanks, Emily. I'm over with the Minitheus Bracket and I am in desperate need of coffee. Or sleep. Because if I don't get one, I'm going to start hallucinating again, and no one wants that." [Emily's voice crackles over the speakers] "Again?" "You really think I am able to talk in puns without hallucinating? The first tip off should have been when I had the M&Ms fighting each other!" "The... M&Ms?" "Errr, the Kikos. See! I'm doing it again! Anyway, in the Minitheus bracket, Mystery Island conceded its fifth draw of the season in Slushie Slinger to Moltara. The Islanders...Natives? Whatever. They've been dominating nearly every team they have faced, only losing once to the Mummies in Slushie Slinger. On the other hand, Kiko Lake is definitely benefiting from the new bracket system. They have been doing quite well this year after stumbling through the first bracket - wait, can Kikos stumble if they don't have legs? Anyway, this was another sweep for Kiko Lake, this time against the Faeries. Faerieland has not been benefiting from the new format it seems, having only squeaked in a single draw and win in the first two match-ups of Slushie Slinger. After eight straight days of being swept, some fans may be losing motivation, but this is when they need you more than ever! <img src="https://images.neopets.com/altador/altadorcup/2012/team_members/tyrannia_0.gif" alt="Harlis Neyhbol" style="float:left;margin:5px;"> Maraqua seems to be in the same boat as Faerieland, with fans abandoning ship quickly. Yesterday was another depressing day for them, only winning Shootout Showdown and Make Some Noise, while Tyrannia rolled ahead to victory taking Yooyuball and Slushie Slinger. The Maraquan fans that remain are angry - and understandably so. The gamemakers have put them up against Kiko Lake again. While the bracket system is benefiting smaller teams with a dedicated fanbase, such as the Kikos and the Islanders, other underdog teams like the Faeries and the Suns have received no love from the new system and larger, established teams seem to be getting the worst luck in terms of facing the same difficult teams over and over. This is Lydia, signing off for more coffee. Back to you, Emily!" Thanks Lydia! If the walls start swimming, be sure to rest and rehydrate... We worry.. <img src="https://images.neopets.com/altador/altadorcup/2012/team_members/meridell_2.gif" alt="Fiorina" style="float:right;margin:5px;"> Anywho, moving on to the Vaeolus bracket, we have Meridell and Shenkuu. What with Meridell’s perfect record since the bracket shake-up, it may not come as a surprise that the Knights swept the Ninjas. Shenkuu’s matches so far are a perfect demonstration of the biases of the new tournament style. This is the second time they have faced the Knights, the best team in the bracket, earning them a worse record than a team of similar skill, like Lost Desert, who have yet to face the tough Knights in this bracket. The next match in the bracket came from first-time adversaries Krawk Island and Terror Mountain. Krawk Island was able to maintain their perfect Slushie Slinger record in their new bracket and earned an overall win with a win in Yooyuball as well. Terror Mountain dominated Make Some Noise, however, and put up a solid showing in Shootout Showdown, earning a win and a draw respectively. <img src="https://images.neopets.com/altador/altadorcup/2012/team_members/rooisland_3.gif" alt="Fenny Vail" style="float:left;margin:5px;"> The last match from yesterday came from Lost Desert and Roo Island, third time opponents thus far in the tournament. While the Mummies have been owning the Yooyuball matches, the Rooligans pulled off a draw yesterday, and another in Make Some Noise. Lost Desert expended their Slushie Slinger streak to three days and also chalked up a win in Shootout Showdown. The downside of the new bracket system is really beginning to show, as this next day will be the third time in the tournament Shenkuu and Terror Mountain will face each other. Shenkuu has dominated Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise so far, so look for them to come out strong in both games today. The Ninjas have also proven that they can hold their own in Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown, drawing the Chillers in their first meeting. After a little bit of a struggle when they last met Terror Mountain on the sixth day of the tournament, they will be looking for vengeance today in what should be an exciting pairing. Terror Mountain will be coming into the match with the confidence of Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown wins in their last meeting with Shenkuu, as well as the momentum from a win and a draw against Krawk Island yesterday, so this one really could be anyone’s game. Today’s match between Darigan and Kreludor is a meeting of two powerhouses of this year’s tournament. The last time these teams met, just three days ago, Darigan struggled, only managing a Slushie Slinger draw. Hopefully, they will able to channel the energy they had yesterday in their sweep of Haunted Woods into their match with the Moons today. While slightly shaken yesterday, Kreludor still boasts one of the best records in the competition, a record of 34-4-2 thus far, and, with the memory of their last victory over the Minions still fresh in their minds, look for the Moons to come out kicking today. <img src="https://images.neopets.com/altador/altadorcup/2012/team_members/kikolake_1.gif" alt="Cellers" style="float:left;margin:5px;"> <img src="https://images.neopets.com/altador/altadorcup/2012/team_members/maraqua_1.gif" alt="Elon Hughlis" style="float:right;margin:5px;"> In another repeat match from day eight of the competition, we’ll see Maraqua and Kiko Lake face off once again. Fans will remember the last match as being devastating to the Mermaids, with the Kikos sweeping Maraqua across the games. However, as we saw with their spectacular finish last year, Maraqua has the skills and determination to take on even the most formidable opponents, and they can by no means be discounted. Kiko Lake will be coming into this match with a sweep streak of 3 days and only 2 losses so far in the current bracket, so they will have momentum and confidence on their side in what should be an intense coupling. In yet another third-time match-up, Moltara and Faerieland will be facing off yet again, after being bracketed together for the second time. So far, Moltara has owned this pairing with a record of 7-1-0 against Faerieland this year. The Faeries have proven that their strength as a team lies in Slushie Slinger, so look for them to channel their efforts in the slushie tent today. Finally, a match-up we haven’t seen yet between Mystery Island, the success story of this year’s tournament, and Tyrannia, an all-or-nothing team who seem to be allergic to mediocrity, not drawing a single game so far in this tournament. With the momentum coming from an overall win against Maraqua yesterday, look for Tyrannia to put on a strong showing today. Krawk and Roo Islands will do battle once again tonight. Having faced one another three days ago (starting to see a pattern here...), Krawk Island definitely has the upper hand in this pairing. However, Roo Island is coming off a good day in Yooyuball and Make Some Noise and this, coupled with their knowledge from having already faced Krawk Island, means they will no doubt have a strategy in mind. <img src="https://images.neopets.com/altador/altadorcup/2012/team_members/lostdesert_2.gif" alt="Vonde Cayle" style="float:left;margin:5px;"> Lost Desert will be facing the formidable Meridell today for the first time this year. Lost Desert has surprised many, pulling off some tough wins already, and this match-up with one of the top teams of the tournament will put their skills to the ultimate test in this bracket. <img src="https://images.neopets.com/items/slush_cheese.gif" alt="Cheese Slushie" style="float:right;margin:5px;"> Another yet-to-be-seen match will be coming from Haunted Woods and Altador, as they encounter each other for the first time. Will Altador continue to own Slushie Slinger, or will the Zombies bring the Suns’ good fortunes to an end? The last match of the day comes from Brightvale and Virtupets, another match we haven’t seen yet, helping break up the monotony of the repeat pairings. These are two of the most equally matched teams of the day, so we should be in for some good competition and close scores. I think that’s all for today. I need to check my chair cushions for some nerks and hit up the vending machine. All of Lydia’s M&M talk is making me hungry. On to the next! It really is bias, I mean, yeah, who ever will win the cup deserves it, regardless of the format, since they'll be beating teams who beat others team and I think you get my point. But for the other rankings, it's not as accurate as the DDR results would have been. I just hope a miracle happens for Shenkuu. I hate it that we're in the bottom 4 or 5 of this year's cup. Not taking anything away from the teams tat beat us, but It's really.. unfair for us. True dat. Altador Cup is racist for making us lose and drop down after being 2nd place three years ago. Some players seem to feel they have the bracket system worked out and that we will go up against MI tomorrow. If there's a pair of teams playing each other for the FOURTH time, something is terribly wrong with the system. Some teams are having to face the hardest teams multiple times whereas others haven't had to face them at all. Not the best way to judge a team's skill, imo.
