"Welcome back everyone to The Daily Neopets’ coverage of the seventh annual Altador Cup. This is Emily, bringing you the latest news direct from the Colosseum.

The shakeup of the competition brackets yesterday made for some interesting matchups. The question on everyone’s mind is whether or not the new bracket system will help out the traditionally lower-ranked teams, as the game makers intended, or make it more difficult for everyone. Let’s have a look at the results from the first day of the new brackets.

Many fans were surprised, when the new brackets were announced, that powerhouses Darigan and Kreludor were grouped in with traditionally lower-ranking teams, Haunted Woods and Brightvale. On this first day of this round's matchups, Darigan swept Brightvale across the board, keeping many speculating that the Minions are one of the best candidates for this year’s top team.

Another sweep came within the bracket as Kreludor, somewhat predictably, swept the Haunted Woods, proving once more that they are a force to be reckoned with. Top-tier finishers for the last couple of years, only time will tell if this is the year where they will finally snag the top spot.

Rounding off the Alabriss bracket was the match between Altador and last year’s winners, Virtupets. Altador narrowly avoided a sweep by pulling off a tie in Slushie Slinger, a feat critics are applauding. With their placement in a rather tough bracket, some fans are worried the new system may do more to hinder than help the Altadorians, but there is hope that the team can rally together for this second week of competition.

In the Minitheus bracket, we got to watch Mystery Island take on Moltara. Like Altador, Moltara were able to avoid a crushing defeat by tallying a win in Slushie Slinger. Mystery Island, however, is a real success story this year, razing just about every opponent they've met on the field. So far this year, the Islanders have remained in the top teams, with many wondering if they could possibly take home the Cup.

No, you’re not having deja vu; this was the second day in a row that Kiko Lake took on Tyrannia. After being swept in the first matchup, Tyrannia must have adjusted to the Kiko’s playing style, as they bounced back with wins in Yooyuball and Make Some Noise. Here’s to hoping these two teams will not have to face off for a while, giving them both the opportunity for some more variety in opponents.

The last match in Minitheus saw old bracket-mates Maraqua and Faerieland battling each other yet again. Apparently, these games are better suited to fins than to wings, as Maraqua swept Faerieland for the second time in the tournament. More concerned with questing than Yooyuball, Faerieland will be looking for a win today to re-inspire the team and get the Yooyu rolling into week two of the competition.

In the first match of the new Vaelous bracket, fans watched Meridell take on Shenkuu. In the fourth sweep of the day, Meridell dominated the match-up early on. They took Shenkuu in every game of the day. However, with a fairly evenly-matched bracket, redemption is easily in sight for the Ninjas in the upcoming days, and fans have no doubts they will bounce right back into the fray.

The Roo Island Rooligans, in keeping with traditional rankings, outplayed the Terror Mountain Chillers in three of the four games yesterday, with Terror Mountain clinching a win in Shootout Showdown, a game they excelled in last year. There is plenty of room for both teams to do well in this bracket, and fans should watch closely in the next few days to see how both of these teams fare, as the matches are sure to be exciting.

The last match of the bracket was between Lost Desert and Krawk Island, two teams who had yet to face each other in this year’s tournament. While Krawk Island has historically ranked higher than the Lost Desert, with the exception of the Mummies' win in the fifth Altador Cup, the match really was close all day. In the end, the Pirates took all of the side games, but, in a surprising turn of events, Lost Desert rallied for a draw in Yooyuball. They are yet another team to keep an eye on, as the new bracket provides an excellent opportunity to rake in rank points.

Now, as for today's matches- *bzzt!* *crrr!*"

Hmm? What's up with the- oh. Hey! How many times do I have to tell you?! There's no chicken in the transmission box! *ahem* We appear to have lost the connection with our field office. Uh, right. Now, as for today's matches, all eyes will be turning towards Alabriss Bracket as we see our first clash between serious top-tier contenders: Teams Kreludor and Darigan Citadel will be bringing their A-games out on the field, hoping to bring themselves one step closer to proving their dominance within the top trio of championship contestants. Meanwhile, the Altador Suns, having finally rallied enough muscle to hold their own against a challenging opponent, are looking to capitalise on their success, blazing a trail towards the wily defence of the Brightvale Wizards. Trailblazers in their own right, defending champions Team Virtupets will be working hard to recover their usual level of performance, as they tackle fellow championship veterans Team Haunted Woods.

The remaining member of this year's prestigious top trio, Mystery Island, will battle Team Faerieland today - analysts are of the opinion that this will be a one-sided match, but as always the Faeries have other plans, and more than enough determination to make those plans a reality. Slightly further afield, the Moltaran Magmas and Tyrannian Fossils will be struggling to gain better footing in their corner of the bracket - topping out their impressive rise from the underdog ranks, this is the first chance the Moltarans have had to confirm their new status against an established mid-tier team, and neither contender will want to disappoint. Meanwhile, Team Kiko Lake will be facing old rivals Team Maraqua for the first time this season. Speaking in the prep room just before both teams were due out on the field, Kiko Lake Team Captain "Poke" Cellers seemed extremely pleased at this turn of events.

"With the new tournament format, we were worried they wouldn't let us play our annual upset match against our old Maraquan friends this year. I'm glad they managed to sort out a bracket with us properly lined up, and I'm sure Elon's crew are happy that they're about to get their yearly beating too. All in good fun, of course."

Over in Vaeolus Bracket, it seems to be all in good fun for Team Roo Island as well. The Rooligans were in high spirits as they headed to their match against the formidable Krawk Island Pirates. Unwilling to let their mediocre leaderboard performance or the toughness of the upcoming match dampen their spirits, the Roos began the day in a celebratory mood, something not lost on Krawk Island's supporters, who promptly organised a counter-offensive. Suffice to say, the Slushie Slinger results from this particular match will be very interesting to watch. The match between teams Lost Desert and Shenkuu began in a similarly good mood, with supporters sharing pocky and generally being good sports. The Terror Mountain Chillers were slightly more tense, but no less spirited going into their match for the day - they have a slippery slope ahead of them as they take on Team Meridell, currently holding first place in the bracket.

All in all, it looks like we're well and truly into the Altador Cup, complete with its seemingly inexhaustible line-up of unmissable matches. As one supporter put it, "I wonder if the local market sells pocky?"

And on that note, this is AA, reporting from Altador, signing off so he can go fish a Kadoatie out of a transmission box...

That's awesome, but you know there's something I noticed about the reports in AC VI and in AC VII. In AC VI, the reports were always breathtaking cause of the action you put in the report. Like if it was draw, you would tell something like 'he puts it in right before it ends' and it was really cool cause we got to see what it could have looked like if it was real. And of all the fights that you put in *cough* MI *cough* SK. And all the 'riots' and 'celebrations' you put in there your reports were top-notch. And in ACVII, you guys just put in the wins and losses and that's still AWESOME, it still is :D. Now please don't get mad at me, this is just my opinion and I know all of you have different opinions, so if you disagree with me, I won't mind, we're human. But I was just wondering if you guys could put back those reports you did last year with all those non-stop action. NOW, as I said, if you don't want, it's ok, I respect that. It's just fun when you get to know what would've happened if it were real. Please don't SUE ME!!

Ydan out PEACE!

P.S. Go DC

P.P.S Hope you guys are alright with my opinion, no hate pls :D

EDIT: You know what, forget about it, that was a stupid opinion, peace :)

That's not a stupid opinion at all - we all have slightly different tastes in reading/writing. :)

To answer your question, what you noticed in our reports last year was mostly influence from Lydia and I (since we handled most of the reports) - all our reporters have slightly different writing styles, and we two tended towards the crazy action and riots and stuff. xD This year our team is a bit bigger (thankfully, writing so many reports got a little exhausting) and we're both a bit busier, so you might not be seeing quite as much from us - I'll try and get in a bit more reporting time though. ^_^

Well ok, thanks for the reply and either way, your reports are still great :)

I was rather insistent on hiring a lot of people for the reports and having more of our people already on staff assist. I don't think many realize this, but my timezone lines up with NST, so if the report got posted at 2 a.m. NST, I was up at 2 a.m. my time.

And since the AC started in the middle of my finals, I wasn't as interested in writing fun and was more interested in getting it out and into bed.

We still have a few tricks up our sleeves, just you wait ;)

Well, ok then. But doing that is still hard cause you have to write everything about the Altador Cup everyday, so for you guys to do that every single day is already awesome :)
