lilshadowdweller
I hate allergies! So here's my story. Recently, a few months ago, when it started to become colder, I got this weird cold. At least, I *thought* it was a cold. I could still smell properly. I could taste everything fine. My nose was stuffy but it always is this time of year. Anyway, this "cold" lasted a very long time. It was such a random cough. It hurt my chest and I'd cough up mucus! Sometimes, it made it hard to breath. I decided enough was enough, I had to go to the doctors. He said it was Bronchitis. He gave me antibiotics and a puffer. They worked FANASTIC together and my cough went away! :laughingsmiley: But as soon as I finished with the puffer, the cough came back, as harsh as ever. :guiltysmiley: The doctor thinks it may be an allergy. A few months ago, I got a kitten. I hope it isn't her! Even if it is, though, I'd learn to live with her and my allergy! I could never disown my kitty! :guiltysmiley: But this isn't the first allergy I've had, oh no! I was allergic to cold weather! Seriously! I broke out in hives when I got cold. I even made a post about it to let people know that it's a real condition. You can see it here on OmgFacts. :) When I was little, I was also allergic to a certain fabric softener. (Not sure which?) And an allergy to fake ear rings ASIDE from gold. :sad01_anim: My Aunt is allergic to wheat! it's such an annoyance for her because there's so many things she can't eat! :sad01_anim: Her son is allergic to chicken, and her steph son is allergic to peanuts! Do you have any allergies? Any insane ones, too? I hate allergies and I actually hope you don't have them.
Jacky
I get very sick when I eat beans. I'm fine with green ones and the white ones but as soon as i eat the darker ones (brown, red, black) they evacuate me as fast as I put them in. LOL Also, when I get sting by a mosquito I get HUGE bumps, and I will probably die if I ever get stung again by a wasp or bee. I was stung in the head by a couple of wasps that got tangled in my hair while I was sleeping when I was little, and the doctor said I had to be very careful becasuse the chance was very big that another sting might be very dangerous for me. (fun fact: I was told you cannot be allergic to wasps or bees unless you have been stung before. How weird is that? )
Wembly
Ugh. I feel you. I've got a similar cough slash mucus issues also, not sure what that's from but mine's probably something like plant allergins or something. I'm quite allegic to cats myself. My lungs get inflamed, my eyes water, and nose runs and such, so yeah, we don't have any furred animals. I'm also randomly allergic to a lot of things some of which I can't identify yet. And here we go: Potatoes, uncooked apples, peaches, fruit with wax on it, and something in certain corn products <_<
Zorse
I get allergies when those things fall from the trees (lol I have no idea what they are) and when the corn gets husks and smells like pollen. Really annoying with corn right up against our property and our woods containing those trees. My throat gets insanely itchy and so do my eyes. It's weird because I thought I had no seasonal allergies, never had them as a kid, then had them one year, then they went away for years, then came back this year. <_< I'm also allergic to many different pain medications and antibiotics, which isn't good. I also can't wear any earrings unless they're gold or else all holes in my ears will be infected for a month, even if I just wear one set of cheap earrings. No fun because I have so many fun earrings I can't wear. I mean, I'll wear them every once in a while, but it's no fun. I'm just glad I'm not allergic to any food, I wouldn't know what to do lol. GlitteryCupcake
I haven't gotten this confirmed by a doctor, but I definitely have an allergy to SOME artificial lime flavors. It makes my cheeks get dark red and splotchy. I know that's really specific, but I also really love margaritas. :(
HimitsuTenshin
I was allergic to Magnums... and Coca-Cola :C Glad that was 3 years ago... :/
Spritzie
I have a few allergies, none that seem to be super severe. (Other than to an antibiotic when I was younger.) I generally have year-round allergies that are just obnoxious. I tend to be more specifically allergic to dust and mold. (So the mold allergy makes autumn months difficult. I can just smell the mold from the leaves on the ground.) Animal-wise, I'm allergic to dogs, so I can't be around them much. Food-wise, my body doesn't react well to lettuce (yes, I know that sounds weird.) And I have a slight allergy to alcohol. Even the smallest sip and I get a migraine. If I drink more than that, the migraine is worse. (And I can't take anything for it at that point.) My worst allergy would definitely be mosquito bites. I'm horribly allergic to them. The bites swell really big and are horribly itchy and painful. And it doesn't help that I seem to attract mosquitoes. I've always gotten the most bites of anyone I know, even if they were the same places I was. (Playing softball when I was younger, I generally had about 10 more than anyone else on my team.) Naamah D.
I'm allergic or at least allergic to fish like salmon and tuna. I can have white fish and shellfish but I can't have salmon or tuna. Last time I had salmon, I woke up and puked. It was disgusting! It's a shame though because I love salmon.
behemothrules
I am allergic to milk, its not deadly but i do get very sick, which is really quite inconvenient because so many things have additives in them. And its a total nightmare eating out.... I can't even have french fries or anything. But it is something i am learning to get used to and its much easier now than it was when I first grew into it (yes its possible) about a year ago. Saxen
I really hope it's not your kitty that you're allergic too, that would be horrid :( :( I'm currently being tested for Coeliac disease. It doesn't mean I'm allergic to anything but means I cant eat wheat/gluten or lactose as it scars the inside of my intestines and can lead to some serious health stuff O-o I had a blood test on monday and the doc seems to think it'll turn out positive. No more Pop Tarts for me :( /sigh

I've been having a lot of stomach and colon problems the last year, and first the doc thought it was Crohns but those tests all turned out negative. Now he wants to test for this. I think my test will turn out negative though, my pains are way too random for that...
Sakabato
I pretty much sneeze for hours almost every day. I also seem to have an allergy with clams, when I eat one, my tongue itches.
GlitteryCupcake
I was allergic to Magnums... Say whaaaa? I can only think of one product referred to as "magnums...." I feel like I am surely mistaken.
sftangliz
I am allergic to a variety of things and take daily meds to control it. You name it, perfumes, cleaning supplies, medicines, pollen, dander, but strangely enough no food allergies. Go figure.
Jacky
Say whaaaa? I can only think of one product referred to as "magnums...." I feel like I am surely mistaken. magnums are (very good) ice creams. By the way, a magnum can also be a big bottle of champagne or wine. ;)
neon_nightingale
I have hayfever - so summers always come with a downside. It's mainly grass pollen I'm allergic to. I'm also allergic to cats - which is annoying because I love them! It's not a serious allergy so I can still be around them. Also I'm mildy allergic to mangoes and passionfruit. Thankfully it's minor so I can still eat them in moderation but they're both so tasty it's difficult to stop eating!
Lozzie
I suffer from hayfever and allergies. Dust, sawdust, pollen, animal hair and midges (or whatever those insects inject into you) are the worst for me, and sadly that means it's as though I suffer from the flu from spring until autumn, and when I'm around pets. It's something I've had since I was a kid; I would sneeze a storm as soon as I went out into the sunlight every morning. But I guess I just live with it; I've found a daily nasal spray to help tons, especially considering that I'm a huge animal lover and I could never not be around them. I've also had severe allergic reactions to certain types of vinnegar before, which I honestly don't know the extent of so I avoid that when I can (which can be a real pain in the butt considering most people here ALWAYS get salt AND vinnegar on their chips, so if they offer me one I have to ask if they've got vinnegar on them. It only seems to be the types of pure vinnegar you get at chippies, etcetera. But still, I like to be cautious. I also believe I have a gluten intolerance, so I try to avoid most breads since it makes me feel bloated/ill a good majority of the time. xD Woe is me. I'm just thinking about the new additions in my life and my cat definitely came around the same time. However, it could merely be a coincidence. I'm going to the doctors next week so hopefully we can figure what's happening to me. I really hope it's just the infection because asthma is an annoying condition and likewise with allergies. I'm currently being tested for Coeliac disease. No more Pop Tarts for me /sigh Ick, to think, sometimes I feel I have it bad! Hah! I'm sorry that you may have to go through that. Lactose hurts my stomach a lot but I don't think it's harmful, aside from maybe the discomfort of an intolerance. I love milk and many milk products.... I love poptarts too! I go visit the States and grab a box because we don't have as many varieties in Canada.

I really really hope they can find out what's wrong with you soon :( I know how horrible it is to be waiting on tests, especially when you're in pain and you just wanna know what's wrong. I'm also waiting to have a laparoscopy to see if I have endometriosis which is just fab ¬_¬. Have you had scans to see if there's anything visible that could be causing you intestinal stress?? It may not be. I'm just thinking about the new additions in my life and my cat definitely came around the same time. However, it could merely be a coincidence. I'm also waiting to have a laparoscopy to see if I have endometriosis which is just fab ¬_¬. Have you had scans to see if there's anything visible that could be causing you intestinal stress?? Oh yes... I had an upper endoscopy, where they found that my esophagus, stomach and duodenum is inflamed. Biopsies were taken but nothing found. I had a stool sample taken which showed an abnormal amount of white blood cells, which would mean that there is an infection somewhere. I had a cat scan which showed that I have a narrowing in my small intestine. I had bunches and bunches of bloodwork done, which didn't really show anything abnormal. I had a small bowel series and fluoroscopy, which showed only the previously mentioned narrowing. and a couple weeks ago I had a colonoscopy which again showed nothing but the narrowing. Biopsies taken from that were clean too. My doctor is stumped. :( Anyway, I do know I have the b12 deficiency, and I am getting injections for that. Right now I am working on my little stomach acid test with the vinegar, and that seems to work, so I really think that is what is wrong with me. It's just kind of sad that I am the one that needs to tell the doc that I want a B12check because I suspect a deficiency, and I want to do the stomach acid thingy because I suspect low stomach acid, and he studied all this stuff for years and he doesn't think of it himself. Anyway, we're gonna start the new year off with some more blood tests, another stool sample, and I will probably have to go back to the hospital to swallow a pH measuring transmitter that will show the acid value in my stomach. Hopefully that will be what is wrong with me and I will be done with it.

If you have narrowing if your intestines it could be Coeliac, I've heard that long term consumption of Gluten will eventually lead to that. Surely a B12 deficiency couldn't do something like that?? With the inflaming of your esophagus it could be GERD, do you ever have heartburn or the feeling of something stuck in your chest? Believe me I know how that feels. I only trust the doctors at A&E to get it right, I think that GP's spend too much time sat in an office and not enough time actually dealing with real medical problems which leads them to misdiagnose and make mistakes. I've done so much research on the abdomen now that I have to suggest things to my doctor or nothing gets done and I get sent home with "it's probably just stress". Thanks Doc XD A friend of mine went to the doctors with serious lower right quadrant abdominal pain - the doctor said it was her period and sent her home. That night she was in hospital having her very-almost ruptured appendix removed. I shudder to think what might have been the outcome had she not gone to the hospital!
Jacky
Wow, that is scary... If it ruptures you can die from all the bacteria that ooze out in your belly onto your organs... Good thing she went to the hospital, and boo for docs that think you exaggerate. (I once went to my old doc because I had problems where my heart would start racing all of a sudden, also a sign of b12, and he told me it was just because of puberty. Mind you, I was 23 when that happened. o_O ) It is not so much the b12 that causes the narrowing, but the narrowing is scarring, which means my colon can't absorb, which in turn might be the cause of any deficiencies. What ever it was that caused the scarring is a mystery though. Tests for Crohn's, IBD and Coeliac all came back negative and nothing was found on the colo. The only thing we have is the narrowing and the white blood cells. Also, I have no acid reflux. It does feel like it's burning though. Doc had me try acid stoppers, but they only made things worse. That is when I started wondering about low acid. The inflammation might be because there is not enough acid to kill bacteria, pain and bloating because food doesn't get digested properly, maybe scarring because the food gets in there in big pieces (? I am just guessing on that one) and deficiency because the b12 really needs to be broken down before the body can absorb it. Or, I might just be allergic to some stupid thing that causes my whole body to get upset with me. I wish we didn't have to go through all this testing to find out what is wrong. *sigh*
