xSummer
Just searching around the boards people are saying send them a key and a box and they will open the chests and give you what's inside. Most of them is a total scam, they won't send you what is in them. Don't fall for it. Watch who you trust, if you do not know them, be careful please. The Darkest Faerie
That and you can't trade or gift those chests anyway. (I assume you're talking about the ones in the KI is Missing event?)
xSummer
Well people are sayign if you send them a key in a box and an extra box whatever they win they will put into the box and send back to you. It's really ridiculous but some people fall for it
The Darkest Faerie
That's just mean... can you send empty gift boxes? o_O I didn't think you could... glad I'm not bothering to open these chests and just discarding, getting the keys would be a nuisance. I'd never do that even if I wanted to get the keys. Why do scammers have to exist? D:
xSummer
I don't know I would feel so guilty if I did that nevermind paranoid that TNT would freeze me.
Vocaloid Marshmallow
What a scam! I mean, how can people be so stupid as to give a key which was bought with NC to completely unknown people who say they will give it back? Its good that none of us here are so foolish. And people should know they can't trade NC things. I wonder if TNT will catch these people.
Nika
I hope anyone old enough to have a credit card to get NC will know not to fall for a scam like that. What a lazy scam, they didn't bother to disguise it and there's not even incentive to fall for it.
Alynniae
why would you give a key AND a chest? if you've got both of them, and you probably have, you can just open them yourself. that's really a scam for the dumbest people in whole neopia, whole the world, whole the universe <_<

Manta
Are you sure it's not - give them a key and a gift box cap, and then they'll open one of their extra chests and send what they get to you? That sounds like a GB cap sale, rather than a scam. It makes sense to me, since some people might want extra pirate stuff, but don't have enough treasure chests *shrug*
xSummer
No, no. The scammer says they have a chest that they don't want so if you send them a key than they will give you what's inside. Many people fall for this stuff so it's worth repeating. People are scamming because they don't have the cash for the keys so they get free keys. Everyone is pulling this, just look at the boards. Manta
Haven't been on the neoboards lately but yeah that does sound sketchy. It's sad though :(
Noog
I really don't see how it's so ridiculous. I actually thought about doing that but now I can't because people will think I'm a scammer. :/
livvy
Have you personally been scammed this way? If yes, I'm sorry. If no, your argument is invalid because you have no evidence. The chests being non-tradeable is a real inconvenience, and this is a perfectly valid method to get rid of a chest you don't want and for someone else to get a piratey item they do want. Sure, it leaves the person open to get scammed, but calling everyone who tries it a scammer is unfair. In fact, if I had the bravery to go into the NC chat, I'd do it. I don't particularly care about the NC items inside, and I know some people do and don't have many chests. Believe it or not, there are decent people on the neoboards. And that I have evidence of. xSummer
I know five users who have fallen for it and has gotten scammed. I'm sorry if it came off wrong but with the people I know and the people on boards saying these people are scammers, I wanted to let people know that some of these people are scamming. I was going to put, "but if you know this person and know they are trustworthy, go ahead." What I am just saying is before you spend money on NC to spend on a key to send to someone, check them out. & Yes I know there are decent people but I know there are bad people and I would want to know if some people were scamming this way. People can listen to the news and take it and be careful or people can disregard it just like on the other boards where their are discussions, I am just putting it out there cause after hearing from my fifth neofriend and reading stuff online, I wanted to put a hand out there. You don't have to agree but this is just my experience and my red flag.
mikeperetz
I feel like there is far too much paranoia these days... everything isn't a scam. Sometimes people just have to bend the system a bit due to TNT's lack of judgement. I can't see many people scamming a $1.50 item... That's like a pack of gum :P

It's crazy! I don't understand why people do it but people will scam you for a 100k item. Insane! I changed my main post saying watch who you trust and be careful which it should have said cause that is what I meant. As a user, I lost my old account because I accepted a gift from a friend who i thought was a good friend but she was a seller, so because tnt saw her give me a baby paintbrush and figuring out she was a seller, they thought I bought it so they froze everything. I never bought anything but you can't stop what the other person is like. So yes I warn big time.
Nika
I think some info was just missing from the first post--they don't want a chest AND a key, just a key, because they have extra chests, which apparently can't be traded. That makes a lot more sense and sounds a lot less scammy. I know I've found 6 or so chests and have no intention of shelling out for a key, even if it is just a pack of gum. I actually thought about doing that but now I can't because people will think I'm a scammer. ^ lol now after all this I feel the same way. I wish I could spread the wealth.
