Squidmama
:I I knew it was a bad idea to go on the boards. Even though I never roleplayed anything too radical, the only time I was truly okay at that boards is when they first opened. Lawling forever. I don't even know what I just got silenced for :I. We were talking about all the things we missed about the neoboards and then silenced. Though I think I might have used love in a sentence. lololololol love that love is a bad word. What the heck. bubbble
I was silenced for 24 hours before. My neofriend asked for my e-mail on Facebook. I don't know it's against rule on that time so I just give her. :sad01_anim: Neopets is a "kid site" so we must beware of the word we use. No choice but just be careful. Tank Girl
They're so ridiculous sometimes! It's crap like that which is why I stay faaaar away from the boards :P - Plus I've heard people can be really mean on there!
Squidmama
What boggles my mind is that they assume "kids" would use such words in the first place. They need to back off just a tad, this isn't 1990 anymore. Children are using the internet earlier and earlier, it just seems silly that they increased things that they filter. I figure everyone I was talking to was silenced, we were all talking about how crudding TNT was being to the roleplay boards lolol. Squidmama
I'm really confused by this, like viacom is an american own company and under the various internet acts and laws they shouldn't be even allowed to be so strict gghfhfhfh. Whatever, be above the law. XD Oh my gosh, what do they think we're all saying. I know they block hard and bad as too. They should really just stick to the main swearwords and be like "Have to be 16 to enter" and wash their hands of it. It doesn't make them money so they shouldn't care as much as they do XD. Oh snap. I bet it was. That reminds me of a funny story, we were learning about Rockerfeller and a friend in class was like "Can't you get arrested for slandering the president?" LAWL but yeah :I Slander. I'm gunna wear it proud XD and stay away from the boards I guess boohoo.
Vocaloid Marshmallow
I've never got silenced before but when I used to play Petpet Park I've got warned. It even said my account was frozen but actually nothing really happened. They don't let us use words which are not bad at all like the word stupid. :|

rachiee
I've never gotten silenced (or sussed), but people get silenced or sussed over some of the silliest things. About 2 years ago I heard someone was suspended or silenced for like, 72 hours for using the word "wedding." o.0 I frequent the boards sometimes, and I'm quite surprised I haven't been silenced yet...for some (valid?) reason I thought I'd get silenced for saying "blog" or "fat." Those seem like silence-worthy words to me. XD
Tank Girl
It seems they monitor the boards a lot more than they do neomails. I've received some pretty risque stuff, and they haven't done anything at all! I've never even been silenced before :S
Miriam
i've never been silenced but my friend was suspended for creating a neopet and naming it xxxbasterd (x's represent part of the name i forgot). what the heck is bastErd a naugthy word?? so stupid. he also got a warning from neopets for neomailing me "i love you!" saying that neopets is not a dating website. lol what the heck. Tank Girl
Hmmm.. That's kind of pushing it really though :/ I'm not surprised TNT banned that one. I love you, though?! That's silly. Maybe it was because it was from a guy to a girl? I've said that to Rach a million times and I've never got banned!
Anime
What did TNT say in their NM to you when you were silenced? They at least have a reason, even if it's not always a good one. For NMs, TNT's mods have to go in and look at your specific NMs to see if anything bad but not filtered has been said. The boards are public and thus they can see everything. You have to realize that, despite what everyone thinks, TNT only uses real people to monitor the boards. It's quite literally impossible with our current technology to have a bot with an AI powerful enough to make proper modding decisions, espically given the subjectiveness of almost every offense. The only way programs are involved is for the bad word filters. The mods can't magically know "Oh, this person used this combination of innocent words in a bad manner!" in an NM, since they can't just see any and all of them offhand. As for the "I love you", that depends entirely on context and location... if said on the boards, it'd get noticed and yes, likely warned or some such if said outright without anything else like "Yay thanks for *item* it's so awesome I love you for that!!" or something that makes it clear that it's not romantic. There are some things where it's got to be all or nothing, espically due to those "give an inch take a mile" people. Rebecca~
Squidmama
But the thing is they don't bother looking for context anymore. I really don't think they have actual people monitoring the boards at all. They must have a catch all computer filter, the kind proboard cboxes have only spread over an entire site. From my understanding from the very few coding classes I've had to take, it wouldn't be a difficult thing to do. You'd code for trigger words and they just send the "appropriate" response. I don't think they've had actual people monitor these things in a while. Sure, someone might be paid to sort through it all but they prolly have a system that highlights what it read and what isn't. And they just check all and hit delete once a month. Viacom is well known for not hiring enough people (also not paying enough and removing health care benefits 8D) and laying them off willynilly so I wouldn't be surprised if they only have one or two people monitoring those things, if any at all. Laaaawl. Oh gosh! I heard about the wedding being super bannable! What is up with that? Death and evil arn't filtered but wedding and love are? gghhgfh I really hope they decide to redo how they run the boards. They always get really low reviews when Neopets gets reviewed by internet mag and stuff. Bad publicity has got to hurt the wallet somewhere :/
Izzasaur
My last last account was suspended for a week cause I used the word party I know someone else who was warned because of it too. Apparently we aren't allowed to use the word "party" even though TNT used it themselves (Stating that they had plenty of time to plan the "Party" for reaching 1 trillion page views) My other friend was [silenced, I believe? Or warned. Something like that] For using the word "underwear". Even though the Pant Devil's flag has a picture of Underwear on it. Doesn't make sense to me. :/
jcaitou
I remember getting silenced once for something really stupid... or was it a warning? I don't remember. Trust me when I say just having bots won't cut it, regardless of how they're used, and quite aside from the fact that they don't use anything like that. ANd I'm dropping it with that, there is no point in arguing. Also, you didn't answer my origional question. What did the NM TNT sent you say? If you don't think it's a valid reason (like for saying "party") thn you can always send a ticket asking about it, and possibly getting it removed from your record. Squidmama
Izzasaur, I want to be your icon when I grow up. I'm just lovin' that dinosaur! <33! Yeah, they use the words weren't not allowed to all the time. In some of the games even, and its like. Kay, we can't say ball, hard, underwear, love, kiss, or party they shouldn't either. Glubglub. I'd understand if they didn't use it at all cause then it be 'cool bro, yo house' but its not XD I feel like they run the neoboards a lot like a switchboard. I ran a switchboard once. It was weird. And naw, by time they get to my ticket it wouldn't matter, anywho. And they said I was silenced for a day because I was breaking rules and they listed a butt ton of the rules but didn't say which one I broke. But like Tank Girl said XD prolly cause of Slander. I'd run around the boards naked yelling VIVA NEOBOARD LIBERATION if I could lololo
Nika
The other day my friend sent me a neomail with lmao in it. Apparently it wouldn't let her sent it so she just spaced it L M A O which I heard is worse, because you're avoiding a filter. I've gotten some unpleasant neomails and even reported one, but nothing seems to happen. It wasn't until I joined TDN that I learned how easy it is to be banned, and now I'm a little paranoid because I neomail a lot and post on the boards occasionally. I got a warning for making a Uni named "LGBT" and they deleted it :| This is unfortunate--the acronym doesn't stand for anything bad at all, although I guess referencing sexual preference would be as inappropriate as "I love you." All of it is ridonculous.
Noog
If you're "lawling" I don't see what the problem is. What boggles my mind is that they assume "kids" would use such words in the first place. I've seen 5 year olds curse more than anyone in my high school. Kids can be just as informed about vulgar language as teenagers. I really doubt that a 16 or older rule would change things anyways since little kids are putting their age as 13 to get on the neoboards anyways. You still didn't answer Anime's question. What did you get silenced for? They must have told you SOMETHING.
Squidmama
I've answered it like twice now, lol. It said You've been Silenced for whatever the time period was, and then it was like You are not allowed to talk about violence, religion, sexual activity blablabla and the next line was like. Remember, you are also not allowed to post links, give out passwords. Scamming and hacking are also not allowed. Like, it literally listed all the rules and told me how long I was silenced for again at the button. And I lawl'd cause I find how strict they are humorous. I remember when I was...? 11 ? When Neoboards were first up. I totes liked about my age to get on them XD I'm just saying, it would cover their assets and then they wouldn't have to be hawks. CAWCAW. Huge hawks. I never said it was a problem, I just wanted to start a conversation about it 8D I know others have/had/will have experiences like this. Its a good thing to talk about.
