- can’t believe they told me I couldn’t do the field report today! It was only a little riot - the stadium is still standing! We’re on!

Welcome back folks! The past day's matches did not disappoint, even if no riots happened - I am told it was a near miss on that one.

In keeping with recent trends, Kiko Lake managed to side swipe their watery brethren, knocking Maraqua from tied for fifth to a solid sixth. Though the Lakers have not been able to successfully side swipe many teams, their strategy of taking side game points - some that many mid-tier teams ignore - is holding them steady at eleventh place.

The Faeries and the Zombies went head to head again, with Faerieland faring slightly better this time around - they scored a solid win in Shootout Showdown as well as Slushie Slinger, however the Haunted Woods took the match with a win in Yooyuball and Make Some Noise, which also brought them up one place in the standings, and into the second tier.

Altador did slightly better in their second round against Lost Desert, taking Slushie Slinger to prevent being completely swept, however they gave up all the rest of the games to the reigning champ, allowing the Mummies to climb from fourteenth to twelfth in the standings.

Despite making headlines in their recent match against Krawk Island, Moltara seems to be losing steam again, having only drawn against Virtupets in Slushie Slinger. Virtupets clawed up to third place with their near sweep of Moltara.

The Roos bounced right back after yesterday’s disappointing match against Mystery Island, and nearly swept Shenkuu only to have them tie up Shootout Showdown in the last minute. This unfortunately dropped the Ninjas down two spots - and who threw that shuriken?! No throwing things in the news room!

Anyway, on to Brightvale’s match against Krawk Island. Brightvale certainly held their own - tying up Shootout Showdown and taking Make Some Noise and Slushie Slinger, but losing in Yooyuball. Despite the near side sweep by Brightvale, the Pirates managed to jump from third to second, but I hear that can be attributed to a different game.

And for that we go to AA, who has taken my job as field reporter this time. How’re you holding up out there?

”Well Lydia, it looks like the fiery spirit you took to the stands in your last field report hasn't died down, as the noise level here in section H of the Colosseum is absolutely astounding, with rowdy fans leaping out of their seats left and right. For once, however, there was more booing than cheering going on in Make Some Noise, as Kreludor's supporters protested the gradually growing lead Team Meridell managed to eke out over Derlyn Fonnet's squad. Kreludan fans were so loud that they managed to drown out even the most deafening of Meridell's cheers, earning them a win in Make Some Noise.

The non-stop demand for throat-soothing slushies also managed to keep Kreludor slinging apace at the slushie stands, setting a number of industry records in the process. However, even that wasn't enough to keep them ahead of Meridell's smoothly oiled slushie distribution machine, as the Knights' twenty-four seven maximum satisfaction service was still able to maintain the edge.

It was the Yooyu sports that were the stars of this match however, where "Wizard" Windelle and

the rest of Meridell's Yooyuball squad thundered ahead to score an early goal mere seconds into the match. It wasn't long before Kreludor retaliated, bringing their defensive play up to speed and relaying the Yooyu quickly up to forwards Qyldae Wegg and Zenor Kevix, who swiftly proceeded to wreak havoc in the general area in and around Meridell's goal. And so the match continued, with both teams scoring back and forth. As time went on however, the Knights gradually began to pull ahead, slipping more and more goals past their opposition and finishing the match with a convincing lead. A win in Shootout Showdown sealed the victory for the Knights, who now sit securely in the first tier.

"This is what you generally get when two well-rounded teams meet," explained Kreludor Team Captain Derlyn Fonnet. "Both teams are comfortable with their overarching strategy, comfortable with their reactive gameplan for more specific situations, and comfortable with the individual tactics they've knit together to form their play style. They've developed all these over the course of many, many games, and now they're just being refined over and over again. So really, when two teams like that play against each other, what you see isn't so much a clash of strategy as a battle of skill and endurance, and I can say without shame that Meridell was just a little ahead of us in that regard today. What does that mean for us? Well, I'm sure most people could cite any number of sayings along the lines of 'Only a fool shows his hand until it is necessary', but just to put it out straight: we're confident in our first tier placement at this stage - confident enough to hold back some of our more... agile tricks until we need them. We might be leaving a few openings every now and again at the moment, but our opponents had best watch out, because those are going to vanish pretty quickly come the finals."

"Wizard" Windelle of Team Meridell didn't seem to subscribe to the same philosophy however, remarking, "There are plenty of good points to holding back for a few matches, but I've never seen any of them as significant enough to bother about. Personally, I'm just here to play Yooyuball, and play it with everything I've got, heart, mind, and soul. But eh, I'm not going to begrudge anybody a little strategical cajoling here and there, and I'm sure there are plenty of captains brilliant enough to make me eat my words. Kreludor certainly gave us a hard match, that's for sure, and my heartiest praise goes to Derlyn for outfoxing me four times over with her little tackle-dip feint before I caught on. It was a great game, and I'm sure there are plenty of tales to be told about the twisted tails in this match," the Team Captain joked, prompting a chorus of groans from his teammates.

Puns aside, this is certainly a match that will be remembered for a while to come, as both teams continue in their quest to take this year's championship. Back to you Lydia."

Thanks AA! Wish I could be out there! Could you snag me a slushie?

Anyway, to finish the day there were two sweeps! Tyrannia managed a full sweep of Mystery Island, but it wasn’t easy for them - the Islanders gave the Dinos a run for their money. A last second goal by Wila Benne brought the Yooyuball game out of a tie, but the Islanders were hardly done there - Make Some Noise was won by mere points, and Slushie Slinger by one slushie. Shootout Showdown was won by seconds.

The only other complete sweep yesterday was by Darigan Citadel over Terror Mountain, the first time the Chillers have been swept. This forced Terror Mountain down one rank into the third tier. Darigan Citadel was able to secure their spot in fifth place by a full point after Maraqua was side swept.

We have a very exciting day ahead, with me stuck in the news room. Darigan Citadel is going to be tested for fifth place against Maraqua tomorrow - after knocking them out of the tie for fifth by a full point, tomorrow will likely just widen the gap between the two teams. Terror Mountain and the Haunted Woods are going up against each other again tomorrow - this time for eighth place, at the bottom of the second tier. Tyrannia is likely to give the pirates a good run in tomorrow’s match!

This is Lydia, for The Daily Neopets, signing off.

I hope for Maraqua's sake that we can beat Darigan Citadel and send them farther down into tier 2!

No offense, but y'all have already won, give another land a chance! :P

We'll see who wins the next round between Maraqua and Darigan Citadel, The Guy.

I'm in shock that "Wizard" Windelle actually got Team Meridell to the top spot! I'll show no mercy in the rematch between D.C. and Meridell, it'll be epic!

It's safe to say that the results are rigged now.

or just admit that they're playing better and that we've totally lost our grip on things ... <_<

expecting another defeat today ...

I'm really upset because Team Shenkuu keeps losing to teams with smaller fanbase. :grrr:

It's safe to say that the results are rigged now.

That's a really odd opinion to have, considering that the Cup is built specifically to minimise the advantage possessed by teams with a larger fanbase. :eh: Quite frankly, the effort it would take to build a decent, simple algorithm to calculate wins and losses is far less than the effort it would take to rig results every day.

That said, Shenkuu may be down, but you guys are far from out. Keep at it, you'll get to the top sooner or later. ;)

Maraqua, I like you guys but you will not win this match if I have anything to say about it.

You dont seem to understand averages...

Bigger fanbase = Bad unless every single one of them plays like an all-star.

Small fasnbase where atleast 80% play like all-stars = Winner if the AC,

Look at Kreludor, Terror Mountain, Virtupets, and Kiko Lake. -shrug-
