Hello again ACers! Round two of this year's Altador Cup is now well and truly underway, with teams rolling ahead at full steam left and right. Of course, it takes a lot of slushies to keep these teams going at a time like this, and in no match was the demand at the slushie stands more apparent than the one between the Cup's two standing Slushie Slinger champions, Meridell and Tyrannia. Link, reporting directly from the scene of the match, has more.

"Thanks AA! I’m here where the best of the Medieval and the Prehistoric battled it out for domination. Not only have both of these teams been doing great throughout the season, but they both stand out as the best of the best in Slushie Slinger. Analysts predicted this to be a great match and the teams did not let us down!

After hectic lines and over-worked waitresses, the best Slushie Slinger record goes to... Meridell in a landslide! Let’s see if we can stop a couple of fans to see how the match went down. You there, with the Knights shirt! What was your strategy for coming out on top today?

“Well, as Knights we have to have a certain list of priorities. The customer’s satisfaction always comes first, while speed is our second priority. It’s this balance that gives us the perfect blend of efficiency and perfection.”

Thank you for your time. Now, over to the Tyrannian fans, where there seems to be a look of disappointment. Tell me, what happened today?

“Well, we’ve always done our best in Slushie Slinger and today is no different. However, being a Dino is a tough job, especially during the busy Altador Cup season. Our claws have been growing longer every day and we just have no time to clip them every few days. Personally, I probably poked holes in at least thirteen slushies today. I’m not making excuses though, they did a great job and I hope we see them again in the finals.”

What a forthright answer! It’s great to see that there is no bad blood between the teams. Now for the rest of the results. It seems that the Knights also took the rest of the match with a win in Yooyuball, while Tyrannia walked away with a win in Make Some Noise, and the teams drew in Shootout Showdown. Not a bad day for either team, I must say. That’s it for me live from the slushie stands. Link signing out, back to you AA!"

Thank you Link, and do remember to bring a few slushies back to the studio! Well, moving on with some more Slushie Slinger, Team Altador (currently holding the Cup's third best record at the stands) was able to easily out-sling the Darigan Citadel Minions in their match yesterday. It seems that the constant supply of slushies just wasn't enough to keep Altador's fans ahead in Make Some Noise however, and the Minions also took the win in Shootout Showdown and Yooyuball, gaining enough match points to vault them up to fifth place.

Slushie Slinger also played a major role in Faerieland and Kiko Lake's efforts against their powerhouse-level opponents. Both the Krawk Island Pirates and the Haunted Woods Zombies were stymied in their attempts at a sweep, as the Faeries took a Slushie Slinger win from Krawk Island, and the Kikos managed to remain even in the sport against the Haunted Woods, before pushing things a step further with a win in Shootout Showdown.

Slushie Slinger played an equally critical role in the match between top-ranked Kreludor and the Maraquan Mermaids - in fact, Maraqua's slight edge at the slushie stands decided the outcome of the match, after the teams drew in every single one of the tournament's other games. Elon Hughlis and Derlyn Fonnet were seen exchanging some rather amused facepalms in place of the usual handshake at the end of the Yooyuball game, as neither of the teams was able to get a single goal past their opponents' defence, with both Kreludor's aggressive tackling and Maraqua's more traditional solid line holding up astonishingly well throughout the day.

"I'm glad to see we're back on our fins after yesterday," affirmed one Maraquan supporter, "it's never a good thing to wake up, grab a cold pizza slice and then glance through your tent flaps and see red all over your team's scorecard. Kudos to everyone who kept cheering and slinging slushies even after the pizza ran out, and kudos to Team Kreludor too - they all played really well."

Shenkuu and Brightvale were two more teams who had an interesting day of draws, as they ended their match level in both Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise, with each team taking one of the Yooyu sports. Shenkuu's speedy performance on the penalty shootout front wasn't enough to win them the match however, as Team Brightvale blasted ahead during the first half of the Yooyuball game, and held their lead through the remainder of the match, finishing with the staple sport (and the overall win) under their belts.

The draws weren't letting up as Terror Mountain battled it out with Mystery Island. This time around it was the two Yooyu sports that were drawn, with the Terror Mountain Chillers leveraging their side gaming muscle to win both Make Some Noise and Slushie Slinger. While the results give the Chillers the overall win, Mystery Island fans were definitely pleased with their team's performance on the Yooyuball front - managing to hold their own against a top tier contender is a strong sign that the team's aspirations of recovering their old Yooyuball dominance might not be out of reach just yet.

"Whatever the case," remarked one fan shrewdly, "I think Maraqua had better watch out, because we're coming for them next!"

Team Virtupets Captain Keetra Deile and her squad were certainly keeping their eyes on their opponents on the field yesterday, with plenty of sharp-eyed distance shots from their forwards and good instincts on the part of Keetra Deile herself serving to keep the Robots well ahead of Team Roo Island for most of the day. The Roos weren't about to let anyone have an easy win though, playing Neopia's most superbly skilled game of catch-up with a flurry of goals in the match's last quarter. Jair Tollet's setup for a final equalising shot came far too late however, and the Robots emerged victorious in Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown, with enthusiastic fans carrying them to a complete sweep in the remaining games.

It seems like Team Virtupets was the only team to manage a sweep after the three we saw on the previous day, as Team Moltara cheered to a thunderous draw against the Lost Desert's enthusiastic supporters in Make Some Noise. Shootout Showdown and Slushie Slinger went to the Mummies however, adding more crucial match points to the team's tally as it gradually gained some momentum on the leaderboard. On the Yooyuball pitch, the two teams' flexible two plus two formations made for a very dynamic game, while both Leera Heggle and Aldric Beign pushed their teams' Yooyuball strategy experimentation to new heights. By the end of the day, it was clear that the hybrid offensive strategy employed by Lost Desert defenders Luvea Trivon and Rhee Solters was a winning combination, as the Mummies walked off the field with a Yooyuball win, and both teams returned to their quarters in good spirits.

In the brief break period before the next match, the two teams held something of an informal press conference over slushies and pizza, recounting some of the match's highlights and generally having a good time.

"It really did get a bit ridiculous once we got to the second half," admitted Leera Heggle, "and we both ended up trying a lot of moves that in hindsight seem absolutely insane. But ah well, you live, you learn, and then you win. And why not have a few laughs along the way?"

"There weren't any obvious issues, and I think we all did a great job out there, but still, every now and again I was reminded of this really crazy fail we had during one of our practice games back at the Mash-Up," remarked Moltaran forward Tulah Kisner. When pressed for further details on the story, she explained, "So it goes like this: the game's us against the Lost Desert, and they've managed to push us all the way back right in front of our goal. Somehow I end up with the fire Yooyu, and Derbi and Vonde are pushing me real hard, so Aldric yells at me to lob it over to Mor so he can bounce it out at a different angle where Zax can grab it. Now, I'm a little skeptical about this, since really you never shoot a fire Yooyu at your goalie - you just don't. But it's not like I have anywhere else to go, so I dodge left and throw the ball anyway. Of course, Mor chooses this exact moment to turn away from me and shout at Aldric, 'That's a stupid idea!', while the Yooyu sails right past him."

In between the anecdotes and general humour, there was still time for reporters to slip in one or two serious questions, the most notable one being addressed to Aldric Beign. The ever-optimistic Moltaran captain was asked how he managed to remain constantly positive, even in the face of numerous defeats, and especially when most Yooyuball coaches were encouraging an air of healthy pessimism, to which he replied, "What's this 'pessimism' you're talking about?"

And in that spirit, the tournament rolls on into its twentieth day, with all eighteen teams charged and ready to play their hearts out. The coming day is most definitely not lacking in intense matches. Among the clashes between top tier contenders today: Krawk Island versus Terror Mountain and the Haunted Woods versus Darigan Citadel, not to mention the battle between Team Virtupets and Team Kreludor, currently tied for first place in the standings. Things aren't getting any cooler in the lower tiers either, with the Lost Desert and Kiko Lake battling it out for third tier placement, and Moltara and Faerieland facing off as well.

Best of luck to all teams! This is AA, reporting from Altador, signing off.

Just thought I should point out that though they worked hard, TY did not get two sidegame wins, but instead drew shootout showdown with MD...

AA (short for antiaircraft) is my usual nickname. That said, having a reporter named 'Lord of Fail' would be quite interesting. :P

DC vs. HW. We might need a better performance unlike the last time. The pains felt in AC1 when HW lifted the cup is still wounding DC...

I'm really glad Maraqua picked up SS yesterday. (Plus, I feel like I helped out more in that area yesterday, considering I played tons more of SS than I normally do yesterday.)

We'll work our way back up. :D

BV beat us. :/ Oh well. Have to work hard now against TY. Uggh. I don't wanna do homework now. >.>

They might have beat you, but it was BV that fell in the standings while Lost Desert inched forward, so I'd say you're in pretty good shape. happy.gif Or at least until we come for you guys next. Get ready for it!

Good game against Lost Desert, good game indeed.laughingsmiley.gif Sorry I couldn't participate in that match.

Sad thing is, I can't play today either ("vacation" got extended one day). But coming tomorrow, my entire day's dedicated to making up those games.

P.S. AA, this is one of your better articles. I especially liked the bit dealing with LD and MT talkin' it over with pizza.smile_anim.gif

Heh, thanks. You can't go wrong with pizza! :D

Actually... scratch that thought. Pizza Hut Malaysia's online ordering system has conclusively proven that you can go catastrophically wrong with pizza. <_<
