Cat vs. Dog

I could not believe there was not a dog vs. cat debate.

Are you a dog or a cat person?

Explain why you like one better than the other.

I think I am a mixture.

Where I live my dad has 2 dogs, and one of them I will let sleep on my bed, while the other one will kiss me to death in the face. I volunteer at the SPCA and places like that. I go to most of the dog walks, that raise money for the SPCA and places like that.

At my moms house, however, she has 5 cats (no joke, 5). They are great, I think it's great how they can just lay in your lap for hours, while my Chocolate Lab and the German Shephard (at my dads) cann't lay on a lap for a second, with out crushing some type of bone. Anyway yea, I guess that is everything from me.

I don't think this really qualifies as 'debate' nor really 'discussion' rationale, so I'll be bold and move this to General Chat. If a user, or Chipmonker, disagrees, feel free to PM me :)

I'm a dog person (contrary to the cat in my siggy :D). They're just much more friendly... like that saying "Dogs have owners, cats have servants"? When you come home a dog is waiting for you, a cat is waiting for you to feed it :P

I disagree with those that say cats arn't loyal. Mine are always waiting for me to get home, and no not to feed them. I even have a cat that plays fetch with any kind of ball or string.

I think its really more of a personality thing. Each animal has its own personality and I dont think that changes with it being either a cat or a dog.

Howerver I do think that certain types of animals tend to have similar traits.

But personality is always different.

I like both, but the over enthusiasm (in my opinion) of dogs and their smelliness bother me rather a lot, so I tend to prefer cats, but just for those reasons - oh and dogs are harder for me to handle because of their size. Dogs are nice (for me) when well behaved and bathed often. :) So I guess I like both.

Personally I prefer house rabbits. ...but I guess that is off topic. :)

There's also Catsthatlooklikehitler.com, but we won't go into that area specifically.

Dogs are better. They're more loyal than cats. While cats are less hefty and more agile, I'd prefer a buddy to a runner, in my opinion.

But they both rock. :)

I'm more of a dog person. I prefer them more than cats because dogs are more energetic and social. Now don't get me wrong, cats can be social and loving, but when it comes to learning tricks, I'm sure it would be very stressful for a cat to learn them.

I think i am more of a dog person, dogs are more energetic, and fun. not saying that cats are fun, cats can be fun, but not something that can be too energetic, most rather sleep in the sun.

Also have you not realised, humans are meant to be smarter than dogs, but how come dogs can understand dog language and humans, but we cannot understand their language, its like a one sided conversation

I like cats better mainly because they're very cuddly, they don't dig holes in the backyard, they love you back, and they're just plain adorable. :P

I actually taught my cat to fetch once. Now if I can do the same to the dog...

ROFL, you Mods are too funny. :laughingsmiley:

On topic, I am definetly a cat person. I think they are much cuter, independent and easier to care for. (I mean, most of the time, you can fill the bowl all they way up and leave 'em for a few days.)

But that can also be a problem. When you come back, all the furniture could be ripped up into itty bitty bite sized pieces. And since a lot of them are independent, I don't see why you can't just turn on Animal Planet and watch cats on there. It's also kind of fun taking care of dogs. It builds up responsibility.

They won't tear up the home, not if you train them right. Usually - as with a dog - you have to cat proof your home.

But anyway, it's not their behavior that I find dependent, it's the caring needed. I've always noticed that with dog people, they always need a sitter to walk, feed and let the dog out everyday while their gone. I wouldn't want to do that. I like it when my cat sleeps with me, but I don't want to be walking the dog everyday.

And of course there is the exceptions. Like I had a cat that needed to exercise twice a day or she'd start acting up. But she paid that off with being very personable, all the time.

I think dogs and cats have its pros and cons. With cats though, they can just leave one day and never come back and that has happened a lot of my friend so she had to get a new cat often until she got tired. So dogs tend to me more loyal. Cats and dogs make a mess, there are dogs that even do more damage than a cat! But they both have something common...they're just so adorable!

Cats are easier to manage when it comes to housetraining. Litterbox training comes simple for me, and you don't have to constantly watch them to make sure they don't pee anywhere. Also, a cat doesn't need to be let out every morning, although some outdoor excersise is good.
