Hey all!

We've noticed that a lot of really obvious broken rules are going unreported lately. These unreported things range from simple short posts to really obvious posts by spam bots. Our moderation team, while extremely alert and efficient, simply cannot be everywhere at once, nor are we capable of checking every last post on the forums (that's just not possible). We need you, the members, to remember to report any broken rules you see. This helps us locate broken rules faster, and by extension deal with any problems we come across more quickly.

For those of you who haven't noticed it, the report button is located at the bottom left hand corner of every post and personal message on the forums, as well as the upper right of all member profiles. You will not be punished in any way for reporting legitimate concerns, nor will you get in trouble for reporting a large number of things.

For your reference, here is a quick (and incomplete) list of things that should be reported when you see them.

  • Short posts
  • Double posts
  • Topics that have been posted on after being inactive for more than 21 days
  • Any threads or posts that are clearly made by any kind of bot, scammer, or spammer
  • Any posts that you feel are being directly rude or mean to you or another member

Naturally, any other broken rules should be reported as well.

Thanks for helping keep the forums clean!

Whoops. Didn't realize all those things were supposed to be reported...other than the blatantly obvious foul rule breakings that occasionally occur. Thanks for the reminder Anime!

I didn't know these things were to be reported as well...if I did I would've pressed the report button on several short posts :P!

Well, that's why I posted this. So now you all know. :D

From all the places I post, I notice that such posts are already dealt with by the staff.

I will keep my eye open in the future, though!

Thanks for the reminder. I never knew report button were for that purpose! ;)

Good use of the viking smiley, Myles.

And thank you Anime. I will hunt down the broken rules and apply the report button when necessary. *dutiful salute*

Maybe it is because the 7 word rule is maybe to high. I think 5 word rule is pretty fair.

You're thinking of a different kind of spam.

Also, we actually upped the rule to 7 a while ago because our previous number was still allowing for what we define as spammy posts.

Would 6 words work? Sometimes I was almost caught under the word rule by 1 word a lot.

So long as I am Head Mod the rule will remain at 7 words. End of topic, seeing as it's a bit off topic.

Ohhhhh there's the Report button. I wanted to report some spammy things lately but I didn't know how. What a marvelously helpful topic, thanks.

I'd have to say the same here. I keep on seeing endless spambots popping up here and there, and yes, I've been reporting spam topics all over the place.

Rest assured, your reports are being put to good use (and sometimes pre-empted ;) ). We're whackin' those spammers down as fast as they're coming up. They'll run out of IP address blocks to hit us from at this rate. :axehead:

One and foremost, thanks for that "AA". Not to mention that some spammers will often post in foreign text (Russian text is a prime example).

A lot more spammers try to get at us when I wake up, really. x_x
