Faerie Foresight?

It seems to me that the faeries who taught Xandra and heard her complaints would understand the possible repercussions of letting her go.

There's a good reason treason was a crime in many countries; if you don't keep people from speaking out, they might do something dangerous to the powers that be.

I think the faeries (or at least some of them) knew that Xandra might do something, though probably not this specifically. I figure they may have understood her arguments, but known that the status quo was the safest course.

Reasons for not stamping out her threat before it became reality:

  • The faeries probably thought they could handle anything she could throw at them.
  • By allowing her to act against them, she makes herself the bad-guy and the faeries the victims.
  • They probably wouldn't have anticipated her doing something as drastic and reckless as turning them all to stone.
  • They may have seen rebellion as a valid course if she chose to take it (advocating for equality & garnering a following etc), not predicting the havoc her monsters would wreak on the general population.

So, what do you guys think? Did anyone besides Xandra think something like this might happen?

I don't know...the Faeries don't seem like the strategic-thinking types.

Your points are good though, were it the case. I just always in my mind saw the Faeries more as somewhat naive and trusting, than considering themselves one step ahead.

there isnt much strtegy here i mean they give their quests out at random anyway. i do see xandras point though in the aspect that when you do get a quest from them it usually messes you up and you have to spend your hard earned points for some faerie, yes they give you levels and things like that but only levels, hp, str, and def matter so like half the quests are kinda useless(with the exception of the fountain faerie)

The Darkest Faerie had a plot!

(pun intended)

I know they don't often seem to extend critical thinking skills or explore long-term consequences, but their power has been unquestioned for a long time. With a status quo like that, why bother? They had no reason to overtly act with purpose, which does not mean they cannot and did not.

I guess it's kind of a long-shot, but I'm rather fond of the thought of them allowing this to happen.

It's an interesting idea...and it depends on how all-seeing and all-powerful you see the faeries as being.

I'm not sure if I think thats true or not as I've kind of got the idea that they are a bit vague and naive...but perhaps I'm wrong!
