Midtime
((I think you mean 'live'? :P And I think it was better expected for women to curtsey than to bow.)) "Oh?" Mr. Foreman adjusted his spectacles. "Well, very pleased to meet you - I have met you all, though. Your parents invited me over several times for your sakes - it was when you were only three or four, since after that there was something of a break in correspondence. Perhaps they thought you had grown too old for story-telling, though I heartily disagree... but pardon me. Mr. King, Mrs. King; positively delighted," he said, executing a surprisingly graceful bow for one of his age.
Parry
((Yes, I do xD)) "Ah, Mr. Foreman, I do have a vague recollection of you," said Buttercup with her usual air of politeness. "Yes, I believe I was only four when I saw you." "I think papa and mama will have thought that Rose was too old for story-telling," interjected Camomile. The seven sisters were older than each other by a year (the only exception being Hyacinth and Buttercup, where there was two years between them). If Camomile had only been three, then Rose would have been ten. "Knowing Rose, she unfortunately has patience not for stories but for rich bachelors." There was a playful, somewhat intentionally ironic tone in her voice, and her love for wordplay was returning once more. "My dear Camomile, recollect what you are saying," said Buttercup immediately. Being the most sensible out of her sisters, she had a tendancy to stop them from being too impolite in their speech and manners. Not that it had ever had much of an effect on them; Camomile continued to be witty and somewhat rude, Daffodil continued to possess far too much sensibility, and Hyacinth continued to be brash in a feminine way. livvy
After another three-quarters of an hour of walking, Lili and Danny arrived at a small building on the outskirts of Neopia. The building had seen several establishments come and go in its time. For a long time it had housed a tombstone mason, but after several years, the mason simply... disappeared. After that, no business established there had lasted more than a year. The building now served as a school for the lower class Neovians. As they approached the school, a frazzled-looking Yellow Lenny strode toward them with a look of relief. "Oh Lili, you're here early!" "Yes ma'am," Lili answered. "Is something the matter, Ms. Pennyfeather?" Ms. Pennyfeather was the sole teacher in the little two-room schoolhouse. She was aged her far beyond her mere 29 years, and always bore an air of mild exhaustion. "Yes," Ms. Pennyfeather began, absently shooing Danny toward the schoolhouse. "We're supposed to be getting new readers this year, but I can't find them anywhere, and I'm afriad they may still be at the Neovian Printing Press." Lili was well familiar with the location. "Would you mind running to get them? Danny can stay here and work on his sums." "Awww," Danny whined plaintively. Lili nodded. "Certainly." Ms. Pennyfeather smiled. "Shall I have to take them some money?" Ms. Pennyfeather frowned again. "The council ought to have already paid for it, but in the event that they haven't..." She withdrew a small sack of Neopoints from her dress. "There should be enough to cover at least part of it in there. If that's not enough, only take half of the books. The students can share." Lili took the bag of Neopoints and dropped it in her satchel. With a quick wave to her very unhappy-looking younger brother, she turned back down the path and set off for the city of Neovia. Midtime
Foreman nodded bemusedly. "There are children's stories, and then there are others - such as the tales of the Hill-House." It would never have occurred to any gentlemanly Neovian to place greater import on the frantic business going on not quite ten feet away from them than on polite discussion; so after a brief glance at it, he inquired after the well-being of Camomile and Buttercup's other five siblings. livvy
((Er, yeah, I was going to update, and this is what it turned into: Lili continued down the path in relative silence, pleased with the task she had been given. The city of Neovia was one of Lili’s favourite places to be; or rather, held one of her favourite places to be. She had spent the majority of the past summer volunteering at the Neovian Library, replacing books on shelves, checking for damages, and, when she could get away with it, reading every book she could get her paws on. It was here that Lili had discovered how huge the world really was and had resolved to become a part of it. The librarians of course, knew nothing of Lili’s discoveries. The library was a prestigious place; its words were reserved only for high-class eyes. Lili’s musings were interrupted, and, seemingly without cause, she sat down in the middle of the path. She remained there for quite some time, before finally saying “Well?” Livvy, being the only one in ear-shot, hesitated, then answered tentatively, “Well what?” Lili crossed her arms moodily. “Aren’t you going to give me some clever dialogue?” “But… you’re alone. You can’t have dialogue.” Lili scowled. “Interesting musings at least?” “Th- those were musings,” Livvy stammered, quite off-put by her character’s rude behaviour. “That wasn’t musing, that was excessive description and background. I want to actually DO something!” Livvy took a terrified step back from her keyboard. “I, um…” Rolling her eyes, Lili stood, picked up her satchel, and sighed audibly. “Fine. I’ll go ahead with walking boringly. But let me do SOMETHING sometime.” ....yeah. I'll have a proper update soon. x_x))
Midtime
((No worries; it's a rare occasion that that doesn't happen to me. :P Observe how I manage a post with barely anything actually happening in it:)) Foreman knew there was a storm coming. It was no great feat of foresight: of the few times when there wasn't a storm approaching the skies of Neovia (or any other town of the Woods, for that matter), the majority were the periods when the storm had, in fact, arrived. Nevertheless, a storm was coming, and with it a great amount of rain; the low concentration of water in the cocktail of acids and poisons that fell here and in the Woods was enough to keep the native flora alive between their more nutritious meals. The clouds overhead were always a foul grey, so the storms came as a sort of thick fog that sat in the streets, towering into the skies above. Stories a-plenty were passed down about the occasion; many imps and devils and other creatures would seize the opportunity, since the storm hid them temporarily from the powerful light of the fay-lanterns, and - added to the powerful thunder that shook the walls and rattled the window-panes - these factors would easily convince the wiser denizens to take their children and possessions inside, barricade the doors, lock the windows, pull the blinds, and stuff blankets up the chimney in a matter of seconds after the clouds were sighted. He might have sighed to himself, but no fire ever lasted for very long in the Woods at all, and certainly not during a storm; it would be easily out-competed. He glanced over, and noticed a crew of Neovia's peace-keepers just finishing their work. Ah, well; you barely need more than a bucket or two. Parry
((livvy, you could make Essie come to the stall.)) "They are very well," said Camomile, hearing Mr. Foreman's inquiry. She then remembered that practically nobody knew about Pansy's elopement, and for a moment she pondered on whether to tell the Eyrie or not. She threw a glance at Buttercup, who appeared to share the same thought; the emotionless response told Camomile to keep quiet. She was about to expand on her answer when she too noticed a storm was brewing overhead. "Oh dear, it seems there will be a storm soon. I suppose I should return to Walter's shop." A sudden thought crossed her mind, and Camomile added, "Mr. Foreman, I don't think your friend will be here anytime soon, not with the fire. Pray, would you like to come with me? I believe you have not yet met my husband."
Midtime
((The storm isn't meant to be overhead... ah, lackaday. :D)) It was generally considered bad practice to call at a place and then leave before the door was opened; but it was certainly true that no-one had answered his knock, which meant that the occupant had to be either irregularly asleep, or elsewhere. Foreman supposed she had gone to help put out the fire, or barring that, watch is a curious and rather demeaning manner as others did. Besides, he seemed to sense that the young Mrs. Philips would be very glad to introduce her husband to him, as young wives so often are - and he did want to see how little Walter looked like now. "I would be happy to escort you," he said, "though of course I really cannot stay long."
livvy
It was beginning to cloud overhead when Essie reached the Phillips' Florist. Essie frowned up at the sky, as if reprimanding it for daring to darken her day. When she entered the shop, Walter Phillips was already there. "Good morning, Mr. Phillips," Essie said cheerily. "Sorry I'm late. Younger brothers, you know... Well anyway, what do you need me to do today?" -~- Less than 30 minutes' walk away, at the edge of central Neovia, Lili too frowned at the sky. Clouds in Neovia meant rain, and rain meant cold walks on muddy streets. She couldn't afford to get a class set of books completely soaked. Rather than turn around and walk all the way back to school, Lili decided she would go to the Printing Press to pick up the readers and then volunteer there until the storm passed. The Printing Press owner knew her fairly well; she had spent the majority of her summer running books from the Printing Press to her favourite place in Neovia: the Neovian Library. The Neovian Library contained the largest collection of books Lili had ever seen. It held books brand new and books centuries old; books on biology, history, faerietales, folktales, mysteries, mathematics; books with pictures, with sketches, with maps, with only descriptions. It was within the pages of these books that Lili discovered a world beyond her tiny corner of a graveyard in Neovia. Something disturbed Lili. She focused in on the odor, and realized that the offensive smell was that of smoke. She looked, and saw with dismay a plume of smoke rising from the university she had hoped to one day attend. The fire appeared to have gone out, or at least would soon with the rain. There goes in-country tuition, she thought with a sigh.
