When people say that the Altador Cup never fails to surprise, they really do mean it. The results from the recently concluded day 23 are yet another example of the truth behind this timeless maxim - the day was, surprisingly, almost completely free of surprises. No particularly major upsets occurred, and the day's matches went largely as predicted, although there was some interesting rearranging of the leaderboard here and there.

So first up, we have a new team to welcome to group one: namely, Roo Island. The Roos gained just enough match points to climb up a spot in the standings, settling in fourth place after defeating Tyrannia in Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown (the Tyrannians, naturally, performed strongly in the rest of the side games). Curiously however, it wasn't the formerly fourth-ranked Team Meridell that the Roos overtook (the Knights stepped up to third place after a great day in siege mode, faltering only in the face of the deafening cheers of Shenkuu's supporters) rather, it was the Darigan Citadel that slipped down two spots to fifth place after losing to the Desert Marauders.

That's not to say that the day's most anticipated match was a disappointment in any respect - the Yooyuball play was among the best seen anywhere on the field this season, with both the Minions and the Marauders putting on spectacular displays of skill that showcased just precisely why they're currently ranked among the tournament's very best squads. Even with a little overtime, the match ended dead-even, and the teams also tied over in Shootout Showdown. So ultimately it was the Lost Desert's passionate supporters that tipped the match in its favour, securing victories in Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise.

But the Citadel wasn't the only team which dropped in the standings due to this match's meagre point earnings. The Lost Desert also slid back down to second, overtaken again by the Kreludor Moons, who cruised to a clean sweep over Team Brightvale to reclaim the top spot. The Brightvale Wizards aren't too happy at all about these results, as it seems they have little chance of being able to reclaim the tier one glory they had early in the tournament.

They weren't alone in their disappointment however - the host team also suffered a clean sweep yesterday, losing across-the-board to the Haunted Woods Zombies. Team Altador now has the dubious honour of sharing the bottom-table sinkhole with the unfortunate Team Moltara. The Moltarans, to their credit, managed to halt Terror Mountain's chilly advance with a draw in Slushie Slinger, searing their way out of a potential clean sweep despite losses in all the other games.

Ranked just above Altador are Teams Kiko Lake and Faerieland, who crossed guards yesterday in their respective quests for dominance in group four. The nimble Faeries managed to consolidate their new fifteenth-place ranking by taking Yooyuball and Make Some Noise, although the Kikos hit back in Shootout Showdown and Slushie Slinger. The outlook is fairly bleak for the Kikos, but with an upcoming match against Krawk Island today, they didn't waste any time bemoaning their loss, and headed right back onto the field in true Kiko Lake style.

The Krawk Island Pirates didn't exactly have a pleasant day either. They were pretty much "steamrolled" (in the words of one of their supporters) in Yooyuball by their long-time nemeses from the Maraquan squad. The Maraquans played a little sub-par when it came to the side games however, and Krawk Island's supporters had a field day, sprinting ahead with wins in Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown, and a draw in Slushie Slinger.

However, the Pirates didn't manage to grab enough points to stop themselves from dropping to eighth place on the leaderboard. They were overtaken by Team Virtupets, who blasted their way past Mystery Island in every game but Slushie Slinger. The Natives might have plenty of potential as a Yooyuball powerhouse, but this year it seems the exception-rather-than-the-rule phenomenon has been dragging them down more than usual. Virtupets supporters, meanwhile, will certainly be hoping that their team can keep their impressive victory streak.

Going into day 25, we can expect to see Team Haunted Woods giving it their all as they crank up their game against Kreludor for a shot at tier one. Roo Island will also need to prove themselves in their match against the Lost Desert if they want to prevail in group one. Elsewhere, Altador and Moltara will butt heads in a repeat of their very first game of the season - this time however, there's a lot more to lose.

Good luck as always! This is AA, running from angry mobs in Altador, signing off.
