gbraing
I've been on Neopets for 6+ years now, and I was one of the people who hated everything about the new Neopets when it first came out (except for that giant blinking Meepit in the news! xD). I didn't like the new layout, customization, the NC Mall, or anything, really. Now? I've made my peace with the layout, and in some cases it's even better at getting me to where I want to go. Customization is fun. I don't spent a lot of NP on my pets' clothes and I never buy NC, but I still get cute stuff from the Advent Calendar, site events, and the Shop Wizard if I really want it. I can even live with the Mall - I'll never buy anything from it, but I understand that TNT/Viacom needs to make a buck. In short, Neopets was pretty cool back then and it's pretty cool now. Both old and new have been extremely capable of addicting me to the site for hours on end. () I do like the suggestion of being able to choose between UC and customizable pets, but TNT's made it pretty clear that that probably won't happen. Anyways, sure, I don't like all of the changes that have been made over time, but I still wouldn't want to revert back to how it used to be. :)
Minty Mints
Well, what's going to happen five years into the future when there's a NEW new layout? Are we going to look back at the layout we supposedly hated and be sad about it like we are with the current old layout? It's the same with many things. I could say right now 'I sure do miss good old Pokemon Gold and Silver' and then sometime in the future be saying 'I sure do miss good old Pokemon Black and White'. browniemuncher
I for sure miss the old neopets. I actually started playing for the 1st time when I was in 2nd grade! Then I took a very long hiatus and only visited on occasion. Now, alas, I am adddicted once again :P But I do agree that it was much better before, namely how the pets looked! But isn't it like this now because a larger company bought the site and changed it a bit?
megan lynn
For a lot of things, yeh. I miss some of the old pet looks though. Ahhh yes, the old drawings had so much personality. They all have the same awkward pose now..
Kuroida
When I was a kid. There was one game I loved and it was Ultimate Bullseye....what happened to that game? The second one is around so the first one should be too right? I don't see anything special about customization but I guess kids these days like to dress up their neopets *shrugs* I actually like the layout now as the drop down menus on the top bar make life easier. Oh and when I was a kid I swear jelly world was a place on the globe o.0 (when I came back, I spent hours looking for it before looking up on this site to find out how to get there) I also like some of the new petpets but I agree that the neopet drawings back then were a lot better. Major peeve: constant commercials, ads and the NC mall. But hey, the world's a competitive place and they need to make money somehow so I'll live with it. It's not like it's the only site out there that does it.
TheNiku
I haven't been on Neo long enough for "Old Neo" (When i joined the NC Mall just opened) , but I've heard it was WAY better. I agree how Neo is more about "Advertising" nowadays. All the new games seem to be sponsor ones. Then you have those events like the Six Flags one, where you earn lame prizes that deflate like crazy. And I strongly dislike all the plots. I wanna be able to do a Battle plot at least once, Not play games and earn prizes :/ Then read the comic and hear what happens next D: Maybe another Lost Desert plot. I heard that one was the best. And reading up on it, it was. Yeah, I like old neo better too.
persephoniekali
I've played on and off for years now (somehow I always miss the plots). I agree that change is necessary and comes with the territory and popularity, BUT I don't like all the things that require real, actual money. I know they are trying to make real, actual money, but its just not for me. I've been able to get some free nc and thats all I use. Otherwise it's pretty good. Theres always something new and always more things to collect. I do think that the inflation is silly and I agree that they should just release a few more of those items... ^_^
HJ318830
I've been playing neopets for quite a while.. over 8 years, and I remember it was much more.. fun. It is still loads of fun right now, but.. it was much easier to grasp the whole entirety of neopets back then.. there was no.. altador plot, keyquest, or anything like that, (or maybe i was just clueless) and i was able to roam the world of neopets without worrying about missing out on anything that was going on. now, there is TOO much stuff to do, and i dont know what to participate in. should i collect avatars? secret lab map pieces? lutari talisman beads? paint brushes? [paint brushes are way too expensive, by the way] there's just too much to do, and not enough time. i can't just sit around in my house all day playing neopets, although that would be pretty nice if i had the option. i want a lot of things, but i just can't find a way to afford them. maybe i should invest all my time into buying lottery tickets. how do people win that anyways? even in real life. it must feel very amazing when you win [: ~~~ for the nc mall.. i dont have any money that i can spend in real life to use to clothe my neopets.. but i think its a great idea. people who cant afford to buy clothes with neopoints to make their pets beautiful [or ugly, if that's how you like it] should have the fair opportunity to play dress-up with their pets too. so if the answer is real money, then so be it. maybe on the other hand it's not fair to the others who dont have real money, like me, but it should be fair both ways. i do have to admit that the clothes at the nc mall are so much more AWESOME than the ones buyable with neopoints. especially those animated stuff and the ones that come with sound.. but even if i did have spare money, i dont think i'd bring myself to spend it at the nc mall.. i'd be more satisfied with buying clothes for myself at a real life mall! 0:) ~~~ so.. i just try to be satisfied with what i have, and regret the fact that i didnt work hard 8 years ago to earn a lot of neopoints in preparation for the years to come.
alino
I think there are pros and cons to both then and now, and I don't think either one is better than the other.... now, there is TOO much stuff to do, and i dont know what to participate in. should i collect avatars? secret lab map pieces? lutari talisman beads? paint brushes? [paint brushes are way too expensive, by the way] -------- There is a reason for that, It gives Neopets more hours of playability and lets you decide what you want to do and what you don't EDIT: Whoops sorry about the double post... won't happen again! Lamppost
Well, no one's forcing you to use the NC Mall. I see a lot of people complaining about it, but I don't see how it existing is that much of a problem to anyone. It doesn't affect you if you don't use it, so why care? Lot's of people like the NC Mall including me. People are too greedy on Neopets with their NP. That's why a lot of people can't buy anything in the shops, everything goes for more in the user shops and the trading post. It's just like real life, the rich getting richer, and the poor getting poorer. It shouldn't take 100,000 NP+ to get one item of clothes. NC Mall is the way for everyone else to customize. I don't even remember what Neopets was like 6+ years ago, so it doesn't really matter to me. Just because we're not being forced to use it doesn't mean it doesn't affect us. The mere fact of the NC Mall existing changed our pets even without us using it. That's what most people complain about in regards to the NC Mall. Some people think the concept of dressing up Neopets is silly, but in that case, you're right. It doesn't affect them, so why should they care? But those on this thread take issue with the pet changes, which does affect them, so of course they care. Also, Neopets is not quite just like real life. A lot of ways to earn NPs don't take start-up NPs, like games, so it's a lot easier for a poor person to become rich in Neopets than in the real world. There aren't a fixed amount of NPs in existence like there is with real money. So, just because the rich get richer doesn't mean the poor must get poorer in order to fund the rich's growing riches. The reason the rich get richer is because they know the best ways to earn NPs and they use them. The reason the poor get poorer is because they spend their NPs, or gamble them, or in other ways lose them through their own actions. Those two circumstances don't depend on each other. When I was a kid. There was one game I loved and it was Ultimate Bullseye....what happened to that game? The second one is around so the first one should be too right? It's not like it's the only site out there that does it. You can still find Ultimate Bullseye in the Game Graveyard. You can't play it for NPs, though. That's the way it always works when a new version of a game is released. You can still play the old version, but not for NP. The game I miss most is Deckswabber. I really like that one, and Stowaway Sting just doesn't compare.

Also on the note of the NC mall NP/NC wearbles don't compare at all... I know TNT needs to make money but the fact that a lot of the small and/or developing countries are left out and with things like the Style Showdown NC basically gives people in the well known countries a big advantage. Which is kind of racist in my opinion. I know I know a lot of laws prevent them from it going world wide but I'd at least like access to the free stuff (e.g the goodie bags, Newbie Mystery Capsule, etc...,etc...) but no... It makes me really mad sometimes Edited August 29, 2010 by alino
Luciana
Yea, I loved neopets when it took forever to load, had awful art, made neopoints difficult to earn, and barely had any games to play.
quest_o_matic
It would be sadder if neopets stayed the same for years. Then it would be a dead game. There's always good memories about games. Don't let them get you down though! This post has been edited by a member of staff (Stephé) because of a violation of the forum rules.
