naalaro
My account is not registered as over 13 as such, i am forbidden from accessing boards and the like. However, i was curious enough about all that hoohah ive been hearing about the Pound Boards, i decided that i would borrow my friends account and go there and have a look. Well. Im not definitely going there again. My first impression was that of a butchery in the market, you know how they love to lineup their fresh meat, string up the chickens and ducks, and holler about prime cuts and price rates? The first thing i entered was, this thread entitled, Surfing the Pound or some other. I went in, and the first thing i saw was: "Hey guise! I zapped my xweetok into snow, im gonna pound her for a trade, anybody wants?"...and advertisements like: Well Named pet, good color, good stats" The whole thing was like a menu. I cant stand it DX Your being emotional, commented a friend of mine, "the Pets are as much a tradable good as dubloons if you think about it. i know you're very attached to your pet, but in the end, its all about showing off, so...i dont see whats wrong with us trading pets, we just want to show off a little more, similarly how we want to show off our galleries, Neopoints etc." Another friend jokingly added "Sometimes I really feel as though i stepped into some red light district with Pimps hollering out their goods." In fact i really agree with what my other friend said. I cannot help but see the Pet as a Person. An individual to be cherished. Going into the pound boards illicits a knee jerk reaction of disgust from me as though i was back in some slave age, seeing as I'm the sort of person who somehow finds the whole Owner and Pet reference Neopia itself was built on a tad offensive, although im sure many see it as a 'Parent. Child' or 'Friend to Friend' relationship. I'm sure that some may argue that the Pound Boards allow for the quicker transfer of pets to new owners, its easier to find people in adopt a pet schemes, and i do know a person or two who are active in the adoption agency, and cites the pound board as a main source of advertisement to give pets new homes. At first, it wasnt this bad. The "Trade" options for the pound has raised the stakes. Not to mention the anthropomorphic characteristics of all the Pets now that shifted the Player's idea of what a owner and pet really is. If we had all been stuck with the 'This is just a Pet' mentality, especially on a virtual site where is hard to get emotional, instead of having the whole idea of these pets suddenly being 'people', i doubt this issue would had arisen in the first place. Strategos
I would agree with you on most aspects. However, the Trade portion of the pound isn't necessarily as bad as you think. I, and I'm sure many other people, have begun to use it to transfer pets between our own accounts, where each account already has four pets. Don't get me wrong. The Pound Board is not only one of the busiest Neoboards, but it is a mess and certainly Neopian unnatural. The whole thing was like a menu. I cannot agree with you more on that point. Unstream
I personally don't see anything wrong with pound boards. I mean sometimes my pet is zapped into a color I don't like. Say if I really want a Island Techo, but the lab ray changed it to a Grey Tonu. So if I offer my pet up to trade, I get to have the pet I want. It's also used for pet lending for avvies
~warriorcatsforever~
im adopting pets from the pound for avatars, and blasting them in the lab ray until they turn a pretty color. im going to use the pound board to find a nice home, and i dont want anything in return. i just feel bad using pets for avatars and then shoving them back in the pound without anyone to adopt them. so although the pound board is full of horrible things, it can be used to find an owner for a pet. :wub_anim:

Stephé
I have a registered under 13 account and I have a friend who's 13 who said the type of attitude on the pound boards is sort of used to gain your attention. Of course people want to trade/give away their pets, I guess its trying to persuade you like an ad or 'menu' as you would say because that's the impression that you want to give them. @ Moncsi: Cute Xweetok you got there. Congratulations!

Congratulations! Is it? Well i suppose it is a form of...marketing technique...if i dare deem it as that. In doesnt matter i suppose, since therea re people like me, who are put off by that attitude, and of coruse there are those where which it draws them in. To each his own. @ Moncsi: The whole puddle and ice was just fabulous! Perhaps get a few more clothing and spiff her up a bit and enter her into a contest. Lia Seeya
I agree that the trade boards are like a big menu. But I also like finding pets good homes. Some of our members zap pound pets so they can turn into a pretty colour and get adopted. Of course, I get attached to my permanent pets (even if people brand them as BN :laughingsmiley:). I care for my adopted pets too, like a foster family, really. :) This topic has been edited by a member of staff (Anime) because of a violation of the forum rules. lazycrazykitten
Let's see, I've been on Neopets for nearly 8 years now and I still have all my original pets I first got. When I oringianlly started all those years ago, you couldn't transfer pets only adopt or pound them. They also didn't have neoboards to advertise said pet. I actually created 2 of my pets and adopted the other 2 and I love them all to death, however, I do admit that keeping the same pet for such a long time can get a bit boring, and also doesn't serve to get the avatars that you need. But what people got to realize is that there ARE alternatives to pounding a pet. For example, I'm currently using the lab ray in hopes of either changing species or color of my pet. There are also morphing and transmogification potions you can use as well as paintbrushes to obtain the kind of pet you want. Although they CAN get a bit pricey, I figure it's better than the alternative of giving up said pet.
