naalaro
I was talking with my friend yesterday and the issue of the lab ray got brought up. I am not at all ashamed to say i do NOT like the lab ray. i still feel the labray commercialised the idea of a Pet. In fact, I actually had a lab ray on another account. After firing a few times, i found i could not be satisfied. My entire neopets experinece soon degenerated into a daily gamble, my moods were chained to the results of the ray and what it did. Suddenly, i could not be happy with my neopet no matter what happened to it, and was constantly focusing on the LAB RAY, instead of the whole point of Neopets, the pet! I realised what was happning after some time, and i turned away in utter disgust Stopped using it ever since, stopped playing neopets for awhile even. Now i created a new account, it was a bid to start anew. I focused on my pet, wholesomely, and pateintly. Many people LOVE to say that a pet is virtual, a meer ornament. What makes your experinece on neopet concrete then?? Neopets is a virtual world that banks on the effect of genuine affection created between you and your pet. I cant believe how people choose to let the just dissapear...whats the whole POINT then, you're simply better of playing something else like soccer. Im sorry if i offended anyone. I encourage any critiscm.
rdreader
Um, wow. I always thought Neopets was a thing to do during your free time. As a relaxing thing.
Xepha
Oh well, I'm not too fan of the labray myself... And you probably wonder why did I install it on my new account, the one I'm rebuilding on... well, because people gave me pieces, and I wanted to test what would be more efficient : lab training or training school... So far it's the schools. However, I'm always happy of the color and species change... it gives me an excuse to redesign my pet and to customize him (sometime her). Kaihrou had always been a lab pet. I adopted him on Angelxepha as a Kougra, and zapped him for a while. He turned into a Bori and I moved the pet on a side account... which is why he isn't frozen like my other pets. Right now he is an happy red Techo. We celebrated Techo day together and it was fun! (4 free training at the academy is always fun!) I'm attached to my pets. What makes me sad about my lost account is the pet that I had for nearly 6 years. Poor baby :(
Anime
I have the ray on two of my sides. I used them to zap fosteres for a while, but I got tired oft hat and went ahead and got several dream pets (like a Robot Ixi, a Sketch Xweetok...) and have a lab pet one each of those sides. I enjoy zapping them, and it's alwasy fun when I get a cool color or neat species, or my petpet turns into something cool, but I don't let a bad zap get to me. I might mutter a bit but then I go right along with my dailies and everything's good. I'm totally attached to the pets, but their image and personality was made specifically for zapping. naalaro
Um, wow. I always thought Neopets was a thing to do during your free time. As a relaxing thing. Uh huh, well relaxing does not make something less significant in context,, so while i do play it to 'relax', i DO want to have a good, meaningful time doing it, and the labray was totally ruining that for me. ho_yt
I'm not acturally affected so much by the result of the zap because that pet is zapped specially for battledome purpose so the appearance does not matter and a little change in the states is ok to me since its really random, sometimes you will lose some sometimes you will gain some... I zapped my another pet once and I find that I really like the appearance of my pet now and then I stop zapping that pet..

I always like a bit of mystery in the outcome of things. Makes neopets a little more predictable than it is now, since the only thing I have to look forward in that respect is random events. Plus, I would always like to get a ray exclusive pet. (I'm looking at you, Chocolate Meerca.)
christinemellamoalex
I'm not a big fan of the lab ray either. I prefer to just buy paint brushes and get the perfect colour for my pets. And I don't like how it changes the species and genders. It bothered me when all of a sudden my female pet changed to a male :grrr:
Moncsi
I am a bit of afraid of using a labray cause i dont want my pet to change it spiece's or lose loads of skill point. But im a newly user of the labray. And I managed to zap one of my gerelt striped :)
funkeh_renn
I haven't got the labmap yet (I'm very close) but I spent some nps on a friend and I'm also focusing on investing in the stockmarket. I'm over half way there... I think it will be exciting, but I won't zap my favourite pet (Melodae)... And I'll hope I zap some avatar pets ^^ And a Carrot Chia because those are incredibly cute. ^^ You obviously have very negative feelings towards the ebil zapper XPP *gives coffee* I respect what you are saying. Once i asked a friend of mine sometime ago, whether or not he zapped his pets. This was quite sometime back, but i do remember him looking blankly at me and saying, "Yeah, i get bored of it, it's good to change color and even the species so it doesnt get boring. Maybe if i get a nice color i may just keep it." Well, he zapped for a year or so, and then he got a darigan color. He seemed happy for it for like a month, then he zapped again, and we were back to square one after the color changed. I know some people find what he said to be true, but i cant seem to abide that sort of fickleness.
Xepha
I had a pet that turned Darigan with the lab. During the time the pound was down. It was a Darigan Grarrl, and he looked really cool. I had him for more than a year and I decided to zap him again later... and he changed into a Nimmo I think. Well, now the pet is frozen anyway. (However, here is a pic) In general, I'd say the lab is too random and it surely doesn't worth the 1M it's up to now.
Izzy ♥
*shrugs* I like my lab rays - true, sometimes they don't give me anything decent but thats life. You learn to live with it and, eventually, things change. I have gotten a ton of amazing colours in the last few years... some I've kept, others I've adopted out and then others I've zapped over. The real trick with the lab ray is, never zap a pet you have a specific idea in your mind for. Or even one that you're particularly attached to. The lab will almost never give you exactly what you want so you're much better off to buy the paint brush you need rather than try zapping. For me, I mostly just lab pets if I have no idea what I want them to be. If the lab gives me something I love then I can keep, otherwise I can just keep zapping or wait until I think of what that pet should be. The main exception is Bruno, since he was always my lab rat - and probably always will be. Its in his personality! That being said, I rarely zap for myself anymore. Labbing-for-adoption is fun, especially since I'm not attached to the pets at all so it really doesn't matter what they become. About your friend's Darigan pet, does it really matter if he chose to zap over it? I don't really see that as any different to repainting a pet when you get tired of their current colour. Morcalivan
I quite enjoy the lab ray. I have always had 1 specific pet out of the 4 that is the lab rat and the others were all painted their dream colours. Should the ray be kind and give me something awesome that I love, I will move it to a side account. Or I will put it up for adoption so those who can't quite afford a paintbrush have a chance at getting a cool pet too. I have never taken the results too seriously. I make a point to name my lab rat something ambiquous so that if it switches gender it won't look silly. If the lab gives me nothing, or a not so shiny result, I just mutter "boo" under my breath and then forget about it until the next day when I might get a wow. I once got a Darigan Kougra from the ray. Sure, it was cool looking, but definitely not a dream pet of mine so I didn't feel too bad rezapping. Heh, well, i guess i am an idelaist of sort, i know there isnt much reason for me to dislike such behavior, but then again, im the type who writes stories ans draw comics about my pet, the kind who imagines her as a real freind and character in my story. And she's developed so much i just cannot see her in any other look or form. Not unless my stories take a turn for some funny twists, but even then, my preferences is not governed by boredom, but my inner imagination about her ^^ I know that may sound wierd, but thats my neopets experience, sue me :D lol

I would never zap Iz for example (well, except for that one time I accidently zapped the wrong pet xD), nor would I rezap Zadue (she was originally a lab-to-adopt pet, then the pound went down and I got attached). I rezap Bruno all the time, because thats the part of his personality for me ^_^ Personally the lab is great for pets where I don't have that specific image though, since as they change I may find something that I really love... my snow Xwee, Brynde, was painted that way and I'd never rezap him now either. I know people who repaint or morph their pets every month or so, whenever they get tired of their current look. Its a personal thing, if they like who their pets are personality-wise but would rather a different species/colour then thats preferable to tranding or adopting a new pet for them. Everyone's got different ideas on those issues too :P
Gray
I love zapping, it's one of the few things that keeps neopets fresh with me. I have gotten so many great zaps and so many customisation items. I've saved up enough over the summer and just recently I bought a second lab map with the neopoints I've saved up. No matter how much your pet changes from the lab, your pet is still the same pet it was before the zap, it's just a different color or species. As for gender, if your pets' gender changes just fight the lab ray scientist to change it back, withdraw your pet from battle, then go to the healing springs. Splarne
i like doing the lab ray. it is the randomness.... the excitement of a new day. i have a robo-poogle and a jelly techo thanks to zapping. i'm hoping for the cool random zap that i had with an old account of mine. one day it turned my grundo orange... the same week it zapped it pink. that was shortly after they released the pink popcorn avatar. bullygrrrrr is still out there in search, but can't be clicked on since they froze that account. Morri
I like my lab rays. I don't use them on pets or petpets that I like. I never have anything specific in mind, and I just keep zapping until I get something really cool, or a limited edition that I've been waiting to adopt. Then I transter them to one of my side accounts, create a new pet on my main account and start zapping again. It's been fun, and I haven't used it for very long. I may have to eventually face up to putting some of them up for adoption, but I get rather attached. I also invest heavily in their training and in the training of side account pets. So far KeyQuest has given me enough codestones to manage it, so I'm thinking that if I ever do have to part with one, they'll have no problem finding an appreciative owner! Angaelicy
The lab ray is just something for me to complain about. I can't get througha single day without whining about something, and the labray provides that comfort. But my lab pet has the personality of just wanting to do stuff. She likes constant change, and i'm happy to provide it to her. If the color/species changes, yay, but if not, it doesn't really matter. Think about this - if you get all your dream pets and acheive all your goals - what'll you do? Try to see what the lab ray can do for you. It'll keep you hooked on Neo, instead of driving you out. -------------------------- Like everyone's been saying - Click my or they'll die!
