I'm a big fan of scrolls of knowledge too.  They're buyable.  Once I started getting more into the battledome, I pretty much exclusively used two of those and lens flare and fought only what I could one-shot 

I also thought the "shadowy figure" meant the wraith box in the NC Mall that was "accidentally" released and not literally something that appeared on the festival page.

Definitely scrap movement training.

My *personal* training regimen was to get to level 50, as fast as possible.  Then I taught my pet lens flare, invested in good weapons, and started loading up enough strength to one shot the jerks I was battling. There's been a lot of zapping (not recommended unless you are patient enough to deal with stat decreases), coincidence quests, and FQC in there too.  

My stats on my BD now are (humblebrag):

Level: 256, Strength: 548, Defence: 487, and Move: 315

So to check which avatars you DO have on site - hover over "community" in the top menu bar, and click "Neoboards." Then follow the link "Preferences" and the drop down menu for selecting a new avatar will be there.  That's how you can tell, on site, what you do have.  And then obviously your user profile will tell you the number you've unlocked.

As far as checking what you DO NOT have, I think the only way to do that is on a third-party website like TDN, JellyNeo, etc.

I play loads on my iPad!  It was all I had for a looong time.  I like it too for when I'm feeling lazy and don't want to get the laptop out and set it up. It's so light and portable.

I also recommend the app Puffin for flash dailies, etc. I do all the dailies I can in Safari, then I switched to Puffin to do flash.  I never played games on it though, so I can't speak to how well it works with those. 

On the flip side - the expensive gourmet foods are deflating every day.  If you're ready for that kind of commitment lol ;)

Gah - I have always wondered the same thing!

I usually go with whichever group has the most votes as well, and I agree that it usually works in my favor.  

I'm also curious as to whether or not battling higher level opponents makes a difference in who wins... hopefully someone has some insight!  I try to get my 15 items from Jetsam Ace before doing Obleisk battles.
